Thomas -
Wandering
Thomas wandered without any real direction for what seemed like an eternity. His path was always winding and changing depending on his whims. Since he left home his heart longed to replace direction a path to lead him to his destiny. Soon Thomas came upon a guild of adventurers on their way to Mount Terros, a terrifying place filled with dragons, demons and even the devil himself. Thomas heard the stories and he knew this was his chance to make his mother proud. He needed this journey to replace his center and cloud his anger and pain.
Terros is a jagged mountain made of hot volcanic rock each sharp surface inspires fear. Massive rivers of magma undulating, churning and running hither and tither along the rocky pathways, spew forth a frothy noxious fume. The terrain is only a fraction of the danger in Terros, around each corner deadly plants that feed upon the living animals and creatures that roam this treacherous territory threaten your very existence. Their bloodlust can only be managed with copious amounts of meat throughout the day. The fatal Mountain filled with lethal creatures, venomous vegetation, and hazardous terrain make Terros the creator of legends and the ruin of lesser men.
Many men of heroic deeds, adventurers, and warrior legends of old, undertook the impossible trial of a champions metal, by scaling the heights of Mount Terros, no man was fortunate enough to live. The dangers and rewards of this adventure sparked the attention of Thomas, he thought to himself with great confidence, soon he would conquer this noxious Foothill and win the admiration of all. Thomas heard through his traveling with the Adventurers guild that one man had made it to the summit and back. Thomas was determined to replace that man. He traveled to each town along the way to Mount Terros, Thomas spoke only one question, he asked about the man who defied the Devil and cheated death, The conqueror of Terros.
Thomas’s first attempt at replaceing the Conqueror of the Terros was a joke. he mentioned the conqueror of Terros everyone laughed and replied in kind that there is no conqueror of Terros, No one survives. He spent the night in the small fishing village only to leave at dawn’s crest. He never spoke another word to anyone until he reached the next village on the way to Terros. This village was a bit smaller and a lot rougher. A band of thieves hid in the shadows of the small pub. Each one scowling and gnashing their teeth at the sight of the poor farm boy looking to become an adventurer.
Thomas approached the Merchant at the bar and asked his single question, “Do you know the name and whereabouts of the conqueror of Terros?” The bar hushed and then the rush of whispers hurried into the bar like the waves on the ocean. Soft at first then deafening.
The Merchant whispered fearfully looking around the rough and tumbled room filled with the degenerates of the world.
“Son, I recommend you replace another quest this one may not be what you expect.” Thomas leaned in to listen as the room began to undulate with the buzzing of the topic of the Conqueror of Terros.
Thomas collected his bag and moved towards the exit of the pub when a large mountain of a man stood before him a road block to his next journey. Thomas would not have this and tried to move to the left of the behemoth.
“You aren’t going nowhere little man” the hulking humanoid bellowed the simple demand at Thomas. Thomas smiled a kind smile and tipped his hat as he walked by the Mountainous Man. The man once again stepped into Thomas’s path and began to bellow at Thomas, “You go nowhe…”
before he could finish the sentence, Thomas reached out and struck the Mammoth with a quick strike to the esophagus and one to the solar plexus debilitating the behemoth. The giant hulking man fell to waste upon the pub floor with a thunderous rumble. Thomas silently swept passed the groaning heap of a man no words were exchanged as he was engulfed with the darkness of night. No one dare follow the silent stranger, the night enclosed around him leaving the people with the whispered assumption of the smiling warrior.
Now the rumors emerged of the silent stranger with lightning speed, strength of a bear and the intelligence of the scholars. Who was this quiet visitor who hid amongst the everyday man, who would dare ask about a legend? Thomas questioned the unquestionable and fought his road blocks. He was the one to dare look the devil in the face and smile. The undertaking of his quest for The Conqueror of Terros, would give forth to a new birth, Thomas would become a new legend.
