[31] LILITH

Dark.

Pounding heart; erratic breath; jolt, jolt, jolt.

Dark.

Crunching dirt under feet; eyes sweeping the night; temper rising, spiralling.

Dark.

Muffled manic movements; distant voices pervading the silence; a grip on something cold, hard and reeking of future-blood.

Dark.

An engine growing faint; a shouted name: Atara; fifty kilograms of shaky limbs, headed forward, urgent, determined, desperate, pained.

Dark.

Thoughts from another time, in my mind: where is she where is she; the calm before the storm; and the knowing, the knowing, impossibly, what’s about to come.

Dark.

Fear; knowing; and then silence, cold and stark.

I return to the dark.
