Trouble in Paradise (Arianna and Nicholas) -
Chapter 622
Chapter 0622
"Nicholas, you're being ridiculous! You're twisting the whole conversation!" I said, a little annoyed.
I lowered my head as I tried to pull my hand out of his, but Nicholas' fingers tightened like vines, entwining mine firmly.
"Nicholas!" I exclaimed, growing anxious. "We were talking about Tabitha. Why are you dragging this back to us?"
He tilted my chin up abruptly, forcing me to meet his intense, fiery gaze. Slowly, he stroked my cheek, his touch both deliberate and restrained.
"Who's talking about having a baby with whom?"
Maybe it was just my imagination, but his words seemed to carry a deeper, unspoken meaning. Especially when paired with the way his gaze lingered, the atmosphere was heavy with suggestive air.
Feeling the heat rise to my ears, I turned my head toward the door. I pressed my lips together to avoid saying anything more.
He gently turned my face back to him. "Why are you blushing? Are you feeling hot?"
I glared at him. But before I could retort, he leaned in closer on purpose. Instinctively, I leaned back, only to replace myself half-sitting, half-lying. I was cornered by him.
His face, now inches from mine, wore a teasing smile that made me want to slap it off. But the words I wanted to say were caught in my throat, and my face burned even hotter.
Maybe it was my helpless expression that amused him. For once, Nicholas didn't bother hiding amusement in his eyes. His gaze softened into a playful curve.
"It's Ariana who wants Nicholas to have a baby with her."
He spoke slowly and deliberately. He was enunciating each word as if afraid I might miss it. "You're Ariana, and Nicholas is me."
"Nicholas!"
Of course, I knew who Ariana and Nicholas were! I shouted his name in exasperation, but he caught my hand and pinned it above my head.
His warm breath brushed my cheek.
"If that's the case, shouldn't we settle our issues first? A child will need to be registered somewhere. If we don't remarry, what will happen to our child's registration?" he tried to reason with me.
Upon hearing this, I perked up. I had the exact experience. "That's easy. We can just register the baby under my name."
"Well..." Nicholas paused thoughtfully.
"Right, and we need to make sure Tabitha is officially registered with my last name. And you too. You're part of the Hawk family. A remarriage is clearly urgent."
As he spoke, the distance between us shrank to almost nothing. It was so close that a mere pout could bridge the gap.
I stayed silent, wary of any opportunity he might take to create more physical contact. But just as he finished his sentence, he sat back slightly and gave me room to breathe.
For a moment, I was too stunned to process what he'd said. Only after he moved away did I exhale heavily, slumping against the couch to collect myself.
How had the conversation turned to remarriage so suddenly? It was completely out of the blue. Besides, I hadn't
agreed to anything!
Nicholas suddenly turned back, his eyes glinting with mischief. "Are you disappointed I didn't kiss you?"
Before I could react, he leaned down again, brushing his cheek against mine. He then nipped at my earlobe and murmured, "Can I kiss you now?"
Clenching my fists, I steadied my voice to sound composed. "No, you cannot."
"Alright." Nicholas straightened reluctantly, although his expression betrayed little regret.
"I'll call my secretary to check hotel availability. We'll follow proper procedures and set a date that allows enough preparation time. After all, weddings are a big deal."
"What?"
Panicking, I grabbed his phone and quickly locked it.
"Nicholas, you're getting way ahead of yourself. Today is just about your check-up. Whether or not we even have a baby is still undecided. And don't even think about remarriage. I never agreed to that!"
