Chapter 0624

The doctor quickly nodded. "Of course. Our entire medical team is at your service. We'll immediately prepare the necessary equipment."

"Go ahead." Nicholas gave the command without even blinking.

I couldn't help but think about how much influence he had. They were even arranging medical equipment on the spot.

Lost in thought, I barely noticed when he firmly gripped my hand and led me back to the examination room. We sat on the couch together, and he held onto me as if he couldn't bear to let go.

Seeing him remain silent, I instinctively thought he was nervous about the check-up.

Perhaps it was because of the painful memories of being ill a few years ago. Besides that, there was no reason for him to need me with him just for a check-up.

I turned to look at him, trying to confirm my thoughts.

Nicholas picked up a strand of my hair, twirling it between his fingers. His dark eyes betrayed no emotion, but they weighed heavily on me.

I decided not to bring up anything that might reopen old wounds. But as he played with the strand of hair and tugged on it slightly, his slightly reddened fingers sent tingles to my scalp.

I leaned back against the couch and let out a deep sigh, closing my eyes to pretend to nap. But the next moment, my hair was discarded, and a large hand gently pressed against my cheek.

I opened my eyes abruptly and saw Nicholas facing me, his hand caressing my cheek with an unexpected tenderness.

"Are you nervous?"

"Why would I be nervous about you having a check-up?"

Keep pretending! Just keep pretending!

I gave him an epicaricacy look, silently relishing the thought of him panicking and clutching me for comfort during the examination. But as I thought about that, a strange heaviness settled in my chest.

These past few years hadn't been easy for either of us.

Nicholas gave me a cryptic smile as if he saw through my thoughts. I knew men cared about dignity, especially him.

About 15 minutes later, a nurse knocked on the door. We got up and followed her through a maze of hallways, turning left and right for what felt like five minutes before arriving at a secluded examination room.

"Is there surveillance here?" Nicholas suddenly asked.

"What?" The nurse was startled by his question, her face turning bright red. She stammered, unsure how to respond. 'There are... Uh! I mean, there are cameras, but they've been turned off!"

I tugged on Nicholas' sleeve. The oppressive chill of his demeanor made him seem intimidating. The poor nurse was already stressed from running errands and didn't need to be terrified on top of it.

Nicholas frowned, looking somewhat innocent, but he responded with unexpected patience, "Got it."

"Mr. Hawk ... this is for you. Use it to... to collect...

The nurse's face turned a deep shade of crimson. Realizing her phrasing was unprofessional, she straightened her back and clarified seriously. "To collect the required sample!"

She shoved a transparent bag into Nicholas' hand and hurried away before I could even get a good look at it.

"Why did she leave so quickly?"

Nicholas chuckled softly. "Maybe she was afraid of seeing something she shouldn't."

"What could be inappropriate between a doctor and a patient..

I suddenly realized that Nicholas was probably getting a urology check-up! In that case, wouldn't it be inappropriate for me to stay here?

I glanced up at Nicholas, stepped back, and stood at attention. "You can go in alone. I'll wait outside for you." Nicholas' gaze darkened. I instinctively felt a sense of danger and tried to retreat, but it was too late. His low voice came close to my ear. "There's nothing you haven't already seen. No need to be shy."
