Twisting Her Fate -
Chapter 46
In the stormy pack, Connor actually joins the training with the group. He is so far in now that the brothers don't see the point in shouldering him out, deciding it is better to keep him close, at the first sign of betrayal, they can shut the whole thing down and shelter Leilani's heart from as much pain as they can. Connor has no idea that the brothers are still wary of him as he watches Leilani train. He has not seen her in action at all. A wolf run and seeing what she can do in the bedroom is a far cry from seeing her skills in the ring. When she said that she could take care of herself, she wasn't joking.
She wasn't kidding at all, neither was she exaggerating. He joins her for a spar session before they run through some of the training. It is hardcore and by the end of it, he kind of wonders if he has ever trained before. He's hurting more than he used to hurt before he had his wolf, before he had his speedy recovery times, but he feels good and seeing her in action is a thing of beauty.
Everything he sees about her makes more and more checkpoints of everything he wants on a luna. His whole want is based on her in its entirety, so no one could ever measure up. Even if someone else came close, if they aren't Leilani they are not in the running at all. "Babe, you are so amazing"
Leilani smiles at the genuine tone in his voice.
"You are not too bad yourself"
Leilani's phone rings and they pause training to answer it. Her face turns somber as she listens to the person on the other end.
She nods in understanding and reassures the other person on the other end before hanging up the phone and looking at her brothers with a tinge of disappointment as she looks at Connor.
"We have a job"
The brothers nod, it's not like they weren't expecting it, they rarely get this much time off, so they have been waiting for it to come to an end at some stage, so it was hardly that big of a surprise. But for Connor, when he hears the words. His heart drops to his feet while he has also been expecting it. Hearing the words is completely different. His time with her is already up and he knows he's a long way off convincing her to be his. The house plans aren't done. Even the Maggie and Gabriel situation is up in the air. He feels like they're in the middle of all these plans and suddenly she will be gone.
Leilani looks at her brothers.
"Could you give us a second?"
The brothers walk off understanding the situation, Levi heading straight in to tell Terrance. Not that he knows much about the mission yet, but he just wants to spend a bit more time with his mate. He is well aware that Terrance is not the travelling type, so it might be a bit of a stretch for him.
Even though Levi saw Connor's mournful expression, he can tell that Leilani isn't just going to ditch him and never see him again. So if Terrance wants to stay here, they haven't really discussed too much about anything. Terrence hinting that Connor wants to keep them here for good, but how that will all play out with all their plans and Leilani's choice is anyone's guess. For now, Levi can only work with the time he has been given with his mate and work the rest out from there.
Leilani wants to laugh at Connor's adorable heartbroken expression that he is trying so hard to conceal, but it is written all over his face. The proud man's shoulders slump and the smile that he tries to pull looks so bitter that it is hard to even call it a smile anymore.
Leilani closes the gap between the two, her thumb rubbing just under his eye and her hands running down to cup his jaw.
"I don't even know what expression you've got right now, but it is not a good look"
"Babe, am I meant to be joyous?"
He is trying his best to feign happiness, but he is a sh*tty actor.
"What do you think us having a job means?"
"It means you are leaving me"
"To never return?"
Connor looks out into the trees, the green canopy slightly turning the colour of gray as he sees his bright spark disappearing before his eyes. The green foliage that was so bright and beautiful only ten minutes before suddenly seems dull and lifeless. "I assumed as much"
Leilani puts her index finger under his chin, his face moves towards her but his eyes still staring straight past her. Leilani's voice is gentle. "Connor, look at me"
Connor's steel gray eyes meet Leilani's stormy blue eyes.
"First and foremost, I promised you that I'd go to the ball with you. I will never break a promise. Second, do you really think I'm just going to leave you with the Gabriel and Maggie mess? We've got you into this. I am not about to leave you with the fallout. I know there is something there between us. I want to explore it more and see where it takes us. At the very least, I'm going to see those other things through. It is nothing like last time. I'm not just going to leave you a note and disappear from your life. I think I owe you more than that now"
Leilani doesn't even give Connor a chance to speak, pressing a kiss hard on his lips to silence him before continuing.
"The job is only two hours away and depending on what is involved, we shouldn't be there for more than a couple of nights. What I was going to ask you is if we could have this as our base. Have the stormy pack as our base for a short time?" "And after that?"
"After that, I have no idea. I don't make plans too far into the future. Or for us? Does that bother you?"
Connor just pulls Leilani into his embrace. It will have to do for now. At least he has some extra time to talk her around. A couple of days away he can live with. A lifetime, he cannot. "You are free to come and go from the stormy pack to use our resources, to use our buildings, to use me as you see fit.
The Alpha, Luna ball is only a bit over a week away and with Leilani going and whether that's going to be her crowning piece and the end of it, if that ends up being her one last f*ck you to the couple. Connor has to work fast and make sure that she stays with him. First off he needs to stop this little pity party. He wants to show her that he can handle her leaving her jobs. It hit him a lot harder than he was even expecting. But their relationship has not had time to flourish. He has no idea where her head is at. Now that he understands it better, it makes the whole experience easier.
"You really want me to use you like I see fit?"
Connor lifts Leilani up his body and Leilani counters by wrapping her legs around his firm waist.
"That was the most important point out of that? When do you have to leave?"
Leilani's lips run up his neck before she whispers in his ear, her fingers wandering up into his hair as she grinds her body against his.
"Probably after you take me hard against that tree"
Connor smiles. He was hoping that she was going to say something similar, he will show her in actions how much he will miss her, he wants to show her that she has a home to come back to, open, loving arms to run back toward. He wants to be that safe harbour, where the ship can always return.
"Yes ma'am"
Connor wastes no time at all. Inside, Levi is trying to explain to Terrance what is happening without knowing any of the details and that makes it rather difficult. The other boys are busy packing up their bags, they have actually been made to feel comfortable within the pack. They haven't really lived properly in a pack since before all this. Elite training could sort of be considered a pack, but it is more varied and not as laid back as a real pack, living with students coming in and old ones leaving. It is hard to feel consistency. Finlay pats Madden on the shoulder.
"Why are you looking around sadly? Do you really think that this will be the last we see of this place?"
Madden nods.
"Do you think Connor is smooth enough to convince Leilani to be with him?"
They can all see that is where it is going. Connor's goal is clear.
"If anyone can, I think it would be Connor"
