Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 59

Connor walks into the Somerset pack and looks around. It is a lot different than before. There used to be such a joyful energy surrounding the place, but at the moment a certain sorrowful atmosphere hangs thickly in the air. It is late in the day and Connor was going to wait until the morning to arrive but he cannot take up so much of the groups time and he wants to see his Uncle as soon as possible. Terrance looks at Connor.

"You haven't even asked me"

"Were you going to tell me?"

"Well, no"

"Exactly, what is the point of wasting my words?"

"Are you worried?"

"Of course I am, Rosalie is family, but I have faith in the group"

"You believe they can do it?"

"If they can't, nobody can"

Terrance pats him on the shoulder as Connor knocks on the door of the alpha house. Baxter has been informed of their arrival but it is still impolite to just enter. Baxter receives them and shows them around, showing them everything that the group has seen. Baxter doesn't ask for any details. He knows that Leilani would have told him if she could.

What little she gave him, reignited that sliver of hope that was barely an ember.

In the morning in the half moon pack, Gabriel wakes bright and early as lips attach to his morning wood. He sighs and relaxes back in the bed as a very talented mouth does what she does best. It has actually been a few days after his failed attempt on the twentieth floor. For a man that is used to getting a lot, this could nearly be considered a dry spell, so after a good night's sleep and the relief of the niggling pain, this is exactly what he needed.

Maggie has managed to get out of border patrol duty for the last two nights, but knows that Jameson will only cover for her for so long. She needs to get the okay from Gabriel to get out of the whole thing.

Gabriel just lays back and enjoys her service knowing exactly what she's playing at, but he doesn't even really care.

It is hard to be offended when he doesn't really care about the person in question. It is a tiny hit to his ego, but his ego is so large that a tiny hit will make no difference.

He never expected Maggie's love and they both going into the relationship for other reasons. So he is not that surprised that she would go after a fated mate who is improving so much. He doesn't care about Maggie going to Connor. What he cares about more is the fact that Connor's pack is progressing so well while he is stagnant.

When Connor left he laughed about the whole situation. So what if Connor is ridiculously handsome and works so hard? He still has a nothing pack, but reality dealt Gabriel a hard blow.

Gabriel truly not putting two and two together that a lot of hard work will obviously lead to progression.

Gabriel wasn't even set to forgive Maggie so quickly, preferring to torture her for a little longer until he found the invitation to the annual alpha Luna ball.

If Gabriel was to take anyone but Maggie at this late stage it would raise a bunch of questions that he doesn't want to answer. He is still undecided about whether to go through with the wedding or not. He doesn't want to set doubts in motion this early on, preferring just to deal one harsh blow as he makes up his mind and is certain.

Gabriel groans as he thrusts up inside her mouth delivering his load down her throat. Maggie crawls up the bed, emerging from under the covers licking her lips.

"Do you forgive me baby, being away from you is so torturous"

"Maggie, I will give you another chance, we have the alpha, luna ball coming up"

Maggie's eyes brighten. If he is still willing to take her there, it means she is safe in her position. Gabriel watches relief flood the girls face. She has never been good at hiding her emotions. Gabriel sneers and grabs her by the throat, turning them both over and looming over her, his face dangerously close and his aura is aggressive.

"But I am warning you Maggie, you show anything but undying loyalty to me, you do a single thing to embarrass me, you try and use this opportunity to show up to Connor, you try and use this as a jumping off point to snag yourself someone better, you try and f*ck me over, you show that I am anything less than your entire world, you do a single thing wrong and I won't hesitate to end you. I am not talking about calling off the wedding, I am not talking about sending you back to the amber pack so you can live comfortably as the beloved alphas daughter. I will just kill you"

Maggie looks up at him with eyes filled with fear. She does not doubt his words. Whether it is his vicious look or his serious tone, she would not dare go against him at all. She wasn't planning on doing anything stupid. Connor gave her nothing and she is surprised that an egotistical man like Gabriel didn't make her suffer for an eternity.

She is in his debt and she is actually full of gratitude. Even in her oxygen-deprived state, she is happy. Her luna position that has been hanging in the air for days has now slotted into place.

Maggie strokes his hands gently, acting like they are not trying to take her life.

"You are the only man I worship, you are everything Gabriel"

Gabriel snorts as he releases her, getting himself away from her body in a quick movement and walking straight into the bathroom. He may want her to go with him, but he is not particularly interested in being around her for longer than necessary. If Maggie thinks he doesn't know that she didn't even do border patrol, she is very much mistaken. He may not be very good at the growth side of things, but there isn't much in this pack that he doesn't know.

He is well aware that Jameson does not think much of Maggie, but Jameson doesn't really hold all the same values as Gabriel. If there was another choice for Beta, Jameson would be out. Nothing to do with strength. All to do with personality clashes. Maggie runs out of the room excitedly, not paying any attention to the redness on her neck that was still show for a while. She is quite skilled with covering up things that should not be seen.

Maggie calls her mother straight away. Astrid is an incredibly fashion forward person and always dresses Maggie for the ball. Maggie actually takes her mother's advice for the ball as it is not somewhere that she can be as trashy as she usually is.

She always has to show her best face and show that she is the right candidate to be the luna. She wants to make the other women jealous of her and this year is even more important than usual. She wants to show Gabriel that he isn't making a mistake by giving her a second chance. Even though she has been warned, she also wants to show Connor that he made a foolish decision. The little tramp that Connor has managed to bed will be nothing compared to her, the girl being nothing when compared to Maggie's beauty, she will be nothing compared to Maggie's lineage. Maggie wants to show that she is the most important and he can never hope to get anyone near as good as her.

Now that Connor degraded her so much, she wants to show that she can live a happy life with Gabriel and that her coming to him was only a joke. Only throwing a dog a bone. She wants to pretend that the whole thing was just about the moon goddess and nothing more. She never wants him to feel like he won. Maggie has always got to come out victorious.

Astrid answers quickly with a hint of excitement in her voice.

"Maggie"

"Mummy, will you take me shopping? I need a gown for the alpha, luna ball"

Astrid nearly jumps up and down and excitement. Her eyes, which are usually so dull and lifeless, are shining bright.

"He accepted you?"

Astrid didn't have the greatest faith in her daughter to be able to pull it off. She thought that Connor was a bit more proud than that but she is happy that it all worked out. Believing with all her soul about fated mates.

"What? Ohh you mean Connor? No, he doesn't know what is good for him, but Gabriel found out what I did and he has just accepted me back and we are going to go to the ball together"

The sparkle in Astrid's pale blue eyes instantly fades out. She has never understood why Maggie and Simon value Gabriel so much.

Maggie would never know her mother's disappointment. Only bringing up once more about the dress. Astrid can only agree. Trying hard to curb her disappointment that Maggie would never get to experience that true connection. What is done is done and Astrid would have been surprised if Connor had taken Maggie back, so she had been prepared for the bad news. Astrid once again brightens up.

"I won't be going to the ball with your father"

"What? Why not?"

"Your father has something on, so guess what? Oscar will be home"

Maggie's excitement peaks with the news. Her brother is rarely home but he dotes on his sister very much. She knows that he doesn't agree with some of her life choices. He doesn't like Gabriel or agree that he is the best choice for his sister, but he always supports her choices.

"Really? When does he arrive?"

"The night of the ball"

"Is he going stay this time?"

Astrid only can look out the window over the training grounds with a sad look. Her husband is busy laughing and training the warriors. "We can only hope so"
