Twisting Her Fate -
Chapter 67
Gabriel stares at the woman on the ground who still has not moved an inch. He's still trying to decide if he really saw what he saw. Leilani was so quick and so ruthless. If that is the case now, if she just took out an alpha-blooded she-wolf without even blinking her eyes. If she succeeded in making it through elite training hasn't she suddenly actually become the type of luna that he could only dream about?
If that is the case, then hasn't he trained up the ultimate luna then handed her straight over to Connor? The half moon pack paid for that training and now she is free to use it against them? How would that be fair? They paid so why should others benefit? But he can't have seen what he saw. It is just not possible. The girl that couldn't even lift her head is now a weapon. It has been seven years, but isn't it just too much difference?
What he saw then and what he sees now are worlds apart. It is like she is a completely different person, two completely different ends of the scale.
Leilani looked him straight in the eye without a single glimmer of fear, like she was mocking him with her eyes and she did even with her words, the girl that wouldn't say a single word, the girl that the last time he saw her was so fearful that it looked like she was about to lose all bladder control.
The girl that was ridiculed and beaten and treated like that suddenly became the shinning star?
It is just too much difference. No one can change so much.
Gabriel decides to believe his brain instead of his eyes. He can't have seen that. The only logical conclusion is that Maggie tripped over herself and fell on the ground and Leilani took advantage of the situation to come out looking strong, to look like she had accomplished the impossible.
Gabriel turns and walks straight back out the door, leaving his so-called luna and, at very least his date for the night, sprawled on the ground. He doesn't make a move to cover her, he doesn't check how she is, just walking away without a look back. Gabriel shakes his head as he walks, still unbelieving, trying to shake all the impossible images out of his head. He walks straight up to the man he heard talking earlier, grabbing him by the collar and lifting him slightly off the ground. Getting in his face aggressively and snarling.
"Tell me what you were talking about earlier on"
"What are you talking about?"
"You kept talking about Alpha Storm's date"
The man nods in understanding it is not like Gabriel isn't the first one to approach him, since he is one of the limited few with information about L and, of course, L is causing quite a stir. She has been causing a stir before the ball and now, even more so, the amazing girl on the arm of the most up and coming alpha. They have become the new definition of power couple, one that everyone is going to be watching out for. Gabriel just has a way more aggressive way of doing it. The man acts like he isn't even being held hostage, his voice is level.
"You mean L?"
"That woman that walked out with Alpha Storm right? Then that is who I'm talking about. The one with the white blonde hair, the one with the silver dress" "Yes, that's L"
"Pretend I don't know who L is. Tell me everything you know"
Gabriel has heard whispers, but it cannot possibly be. He just refuses to accept the fact. The man taps Gabriel's hand. He is fine to talk about it, he doesn't really want to talk about it with his feet hanging off the ground. It is completely unnecessary. Gabriel comes to his senses and releases the man. He wasn't really planning on being so aggressive and can't even understand what is going on with him lately. He just can't hold his temper at all. He's lashing out at all the wrong people.
He has not made the good impression he was hoping to make tonight. Instead, he bought a date that made a fool of herself and he wasn't much better, not knowing how much other people heard of the situation, because he kept his voice deliberately low, but in a room full of werewolves there is bound to be someone that had something that they should not know.
"L is the unofficial leader of the elite squad. The boys and she are very close knit, they are fiercely protective of her, as she is of them"
Gabriel frowns heavily, not believing it to be true. Something is wrong either it is the wrong girl or the man has the wrong information. He met the elite squad. He has seen the elite squad, their strength. For the girl he threw away so easily to be in charge of such a thing, to have the power to command such a group. It is unbelievable.
"Don't get me wrong. She's not the leader because they are protective of her or because they like her. She has an incredible mind and can solve problems easily most of the time. Even the most complicated problems the elite squ ad is brought in and between the six of them, it is done so quickly that people even question how it got to that stage to start with, where they needed to get them in, if it was so easily solved how they weren't able to see a solution"
The man pauses, looking at Gabriel, who looks nothing like the other people who he has told about L, looking more like he is eating something exceedingly sour, his whole handsome face is screwed up and he's just looking at him in disbelief. The man shrugs. He has been out here the whole time and has no idea what happened inside and he doesn't really care as he continues.
"But don't think she is all beauty and brains and no action. I've seen her kill a man before. He deserved to die. It was decided that he had to die. The man put up a fight at the last second and nearly killed the alpha of the pack. L as the first one to react, taking down the man that nearly killed an alpha, she killed him without even blinking like he was an easy target"
The man looks out into the distance like remembering a happy past instead of the death of a man.
"Are you sure you're talking about the same one that walked that was carried out in Alpha Storm's arms just before?"
"Yes, how many times do I have to say the same thing? If you don't want to believe me, don't bother asking me and don't waste my time"
The man shakes his head at Gabriel as he walks away from the man who looks like he is about to pass out. Gabriel walks around shaking people, asking the same questions over and over, and no matter how many times he hears it he cannot believe it. "This isn't just rumors you have heard. You saw it with your own eyes?"
"No matter how many times you ask me the same question. my answer is always going to be the same. Yes, I saw it, I saw her. Yes, the girl that was with alpha storm. Yes, the beautiful girl"
Gabriel storms off and the man turns to his friend, sipping his drink casually.
"I think Alpha Hutchins might have lost the plot. Isn't saying that she is Alpha Storm's date enough? It is not like there was a parade of woman through the mans arms. Actually, I don't think I have ever seen Alpha Storm with another companion" "Maybe that is how to progress the pack. Keep our d*cks in our pants"
The men laugh and look at each other.
"Not worth it"
"But seriously, did you see that standoff earlier? It seems that Gabriel's date is actually Alpha Storms fate, but the kicker is that I have heard rumblings that L might be Gabriel's fated and that is why he has gone crazy"
"I know who I would choose if I was L, Gabriel and Connor are miles apart"
The men both nod as they look at Gabriel who is asking the same questions again to someone else. Gabriel's aggressiveness has faded and become more of a desperate plea, he wants anyone to tell him that the words aren't true.
The fact that he hasn't sparked a fight with anyone is pretty surprising, but the reputation of the half moon pack in plummeting as they all watch the alpha unravel before their very eyes.
Gabriel can hardly see, his eyes are glazed heavily as the familiar tingle starts in his chest, he fumbles in his pocket as he grabs yet another vial of the serum, tipping his head back and drinking it down just before it turned into the roaring pain that Connor promised him.
Gabriel chuckles darkly at the thought. What a joke. Never in his life did he ever think he would be in this position.
Gabriel looks around the room once more, there is no one left to ask and the looks he is getting like he is the most pitiful person in the world.
He can't stand it. Nothing like this should have ever happened in his blessed life.
Gabriel decides that he has to leave this suffocating place. He walks toward the door and then sighs in resignation, turning back and grabbing the still unconscious Maggie, throwing her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and walking out of the room with fast steps.
He cannot handle the eyes on him at all.
In the corner of the room Jameson has watched the entire scene unfold. He had been approaching Gabriel when the whole drama unfolded, he heard the whole lot. After that, he moved back to his corner out of sight and sifted through all the words, trying to make sense of them.
From what he has gathered, the girl, Alpha Storm's date, is Gabriel's fated mate, so supposed to be his luna, even though that looks unlikely of happening, but Jameson can now understand why he liked her from the first moment he saw her, but the thing that he is struggling to get his head around was what the girl said.
Jameson doesn't remember much from before he left the pack. He wasn't even seven at the time, but after seeing this whole fiasco there is something that stuck in his mind. There was an orphan girl in the pack. She was only three when he left, so they didn't have much intersection at all, but she was a sweet little thing, she had white blonde hair.
Jameson has not thought about that girl in a long time, never even thought of checking on her. Is that the same? What happened to her in all those years? Why wasn't she in the pack when he returned and why does she hate Gabriel so much? Jameson has some investigating to do.
He is suddenly struck with guilt that he didn't remember about her till now.
