Twisting Her Fate -
Chapter 99
"Eww, we aren't actually going in there are we?"
Maggie's whole body hurts, her head is pounding, she can't feel her wolf. Right now all Maggie wants to do is be pampered by her family and told how special she is. She wants to be told that Leilani is nothing and Connor will regret his decision. She wants to be told that it is his loss and she is better off without him and, even if it's a falsity, she wants to get told that Gabriel loves her and that her position at the half moon pack is secured.
The absolute last thing she wants to do is set foot in such a rundown old place. She is not a good Samaritan. She isn't about to help out someone that would live in a place like this. A person that lives in something so disgusting doesn't even deserve her eyes, doesn't deserve a single look from her.
Oscar just scoffs, not even trying to hide his disdain. This is the house she would have grown up in if things hadn't gone the way they went. None of this is right and the fact that Maggie looks down so much on this is just proof of how distorted everything ended up. Oscar is trying hard not to hold it against her, but when he thinks of the life that he could have had and the life that she should have had versus the one she did have. But really it all comes down to Simon's quest for power and not being happy with what he has. He had a woman that loved him and a daughter and, as it seems, a son.
But he wasn't happy with that. He had to wreck any chance of everyone else's happiness. Obviously, if he wasn't happy, then none else was allowed to be.
Oscar places Maggie's feet down on the ground just outside the cabin as he stands tall. He doesn't know what state his mother is in but he just wants Maggie to understand some things and then he will be free to question her. Resisting the urge completely, to just dump her onto the ground.
"We aren't seriously going in there, are we Oscar? I thought you were joking"
"Don't look down on it so much until you know the truth. Sometimes the reality of things is not what you believe, the reality is far from what you have been accustomed Maggie. This next hour of your life will change everything that you know. Maybe then you won't look down on this place so much, you won't look down so much on what others have and what type of person would live in a place like this"
Oscar's voice is so cold and emotionless, not with the usual sunny sweetness which he talks to his sister and he doesn't even look at her. Just staring straight into the open door of the cabin. Maggie eyes the cabin again with raised eyebrows.
"I don't see a possible reason that I would not look down on someone that would live all the way out here like some sort of recluse"
Oscar just shakes his head, feeling no remorse about the bomb that he is about to drop on her. He has looked at this woman through rose-tinted glasses for far too long. She isn't even a pleasant person. He gave her way too many allowances for merely being his sister. Maybe the saying that blood is thicker than water is true. Once the blood is gone, the water flows away easily, leaving nothing left. He is actually surprised it all disappeared. Maybe the feelings weren't as deep as he thought they were, they have very little in common and they didn't grow up in the same house, they lead very different lives.
Oscar grips her wrist and pulls her inside. He knows his sister well enough to know that she won't go into a place like this without a bit of persuasion. She thinks she is above a place like this, but when Oscar was first sent away he lived in something that was not much better than this at all, which makes him even more bitter at this time. It makes Maggie's comment even worse, as she has been able to enjoy a life of luxury while he has repeatedly been hit down.
"It is going to be okay mum, we will be better now. I will do what needs to be done, I will get Leilani back, I will get your Cora and we are going to be a family"
Astrid hears the words of comfort from her son, the soft words said by the son she owes too much to, his words cut through the darkness being a little sliver of light, all she has to do is replace the strength to go toward it.
She is a mother, she has two children, she has missed out on too much. She can't miss out on anymore. She needs to replace that strength she lost all those years ago. Grief got her to this point. She can't grieve any longer.
Maggie stares wide-eyed at the letter addressed to her, she cannot believe the words at all, she rocks back and forth slowly. Each sentence twisting her gut, stabbing her heart. She finally gets to the end, whispering the words that stake her straight through the heart.
"Love Always,
Rose
(Mummy)"
Maggie looks up from the pages to Astrid, who looks like she has lost her soul, her eyes are rolling around in her head as tears pour down her face. Maggie's eyes move to Oscar's cold stormy blue eyes as he stares directly at her. She can now understand his massive change of attitude, but she is not willing to accept anything that is written in the letter, she is not willing to accept the truth. She matches Oscar's gaze before turning her eyes back down to the paper on her lap. Picking up the first piece and tearing it straight down the centre.
"I am not a f*cking omega, this is all lies"
Oscar moves quickly to take the evidence off her hands before it all gets destroyed. Oscar snatches the paper, causing Maggie to get a paper cut. Both sets of eyes move to the dribble of blood seeping from the wound. Oscar laughs.
"Tell your body that. I think it has other ideas"
Oscar is completely furious that that is the small fact that Maggie took from all that, all she cares about is the lineage, she only cares that she is an omega, that is the smallest point of all this.
Astrid is not her mother, her real mother is dead and her father killed her, yet Maggie is worried about being an omega. Oscar thought his opinion of Maggie couldn't get any lower, he wanted to see how she reacted to see if the relationship was salvageable, but there is nothing worth saving.
"This is all lies, it is all false, this woman wasn't my mother, I am pure alpha blood"
Oscar wants to grab her shoulders and shake her, but he refrains.
"That doesn't even f*cking matter Maggie, Leilani is Cora, Leilani is my sister. Tell me what you know about her, tell me everything"
