Vincent was about to answer when a figure appeared out of nowhere and crashed right into him.

Her documents were scattered on the floor. She apologized profusely, looking panicked. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to run into you. Are you okay?"

It was Brianna. She was young and pretty, much like a nymph. Vincent wasn't the slightest bit interested, though.

He raised a hand and dusted off the spot where she'd run into him. He wasn't exactly disgusted, but he was most definitely displeased.

Alex asked reproachfully, "Which department are you from?"

"The executive department."

Alex understood now. "You're the new intern?"

"Yes." She held up her employee ID badge and stared at Vincent. "My name's Brianna Upshaw. Are you... Mr. Lewis?"

Vincent glanced at her and asked coolly, "When have our recruitment standards become so low, Alex?" He was saying that Brianna wasn't worthy of being in the executive department. Alex nodded. "I'll deal with it right away."

Just then, Tiffany came out of the restroom. When Brianna saw her, she immediately said enthusiastically, "Tiff!"

Tiffany frowned. Brianna really wouldn't leave her alone, huh? The less she wanted to see her, the more she appeared in her life.

Vincent looked at Tiffany. "You know her?"

She was about to explain, but Brianna beat her to it. The latter linked arms with her and said, "Tiff and I are university friends and dormmates. We're best friends, too. Aren't we, Tiff?"

A trace of panic flitted past Tiffany's eyes. She hastily shook Brianna off and moved away to put some distance between them. "We used to be, but we're not anymore." "Tiff..." Brianna looked aggrieved.

Alex said, "You need to come with me."

Brianna's eyes widened. "Tiff, you've got to help me with this! Put in a good word with Mr. Lewis for me! I've just started this job; I don't want to lose it just like that!"

Tiffany gave Vincent a surprised look. "Are you firing her?"

"Yeah." He gazed at her gently. "I can reconsider if you want to speak up on her behalf."

Tiffany's temples throbbed. She shook her head. No way in hell would she help Brianna. She couldn't wait for Brianna to be gone!

"You seem to hate her." Vincent pushed the button for the elevator and asked, seemingly casually, "Why?"

Tiffany bit her lip. "She stole something of mine."

"What is it? Is it important to you?"

Vincent didn't know why he was

being such a gossip; he just couldn't controlit. He couldn't help feeling curious about everything related to Tiffany. He wanted to get closer to her and understand her.

After a brief silence, she said, "My boyfriend."

The elevator arrived. Vincent was just about to head inside, but he stopped and turned to look at her when he heard her. Her head

was

lowered, and she looked a little hurt.

For some reason, his heart clenched. He couldn't help reaching out to caress her head gently.

Tiffany's head shot up in surprise at that. Her doe-like eyes met his, making him feel like an arrow had just shot him in the heart.

She looked so much like an injured kitten that it made Vincent want to pull her into his arms so he could cuddle and comfort her.

As soon as the thought formed in his mind, he grabbed her arm and pulled her to him without even thinking twice.
