Vincent drove out of the basement parking lot. Even from a distance, he spotted Tiffany standing at the bus stop as she waited for the next bus.
A wave of something that he couldn't understand washed over him as he recalled her rejection of him.
Just then, Kelly called him. "Will you be back for dinner tonight, Mr. Lewis?"
"I have something on. You guys go ahead without me."
"Oh, okay." She sounded a little disappointed. "Do you want anything for supper, then? I'll prepare it for you."
"No, I don't have the habit of eating supper. You must be tired after bustling around for the whole day. Get some rest," Vincent said.
"Okay."
Vincent remained seated in the car after hanging up. After watching Tiffany get onto a bus, he tapped his fingers against the wheel. Then, he scrolled through his contacts and called Charles. "Where are you?" "Nocturne." Charles sounded a little distracted. "Why? Are you coming over?"
"I'll be right there." Vincent hung up and headed to Nocturne Nightclub.
...
Tiffany arrived at Teresa's hospital room to see Eric sitting by the bed. He was feeding her apple slices.
This was a rare sight, so Tiffany couldn't help faltering. Teresa was a little embarrassed at being caught like this. She said, "Have you eaten dinner, Tiff? Eric brought something for you."
"Yeah, I have." Tiffany put her bag down and walked over to the bed. Eric greeted her, but she bit her lip without responding. She didn't even look at him. She merely focused on Teresa. "Are you feeling better?"
"Yes, much." Teresa held her hand. "I was just telling Eric that I want to be discharged after finishing my IV drip tomorrow. Staying here is expensive, and fed feel more comfortable at home. I want to go home."
Tiffany's gaze darkened at her words. She knew this meant Teresa didn't want to bring up the divorce anymore. She silently pulled a chair over to the bed and sat down, still holding onto the Thermos flask. Teresa noticed it. "What's that?"
Tiffany looked down at it. "Oh, there's chicken soup in here."
She opened the flask and poured some soup out. "Have some."
Teresa was
Prised. "You're busy
at work during the day, aren't you? Where did you replace the time and place to cook this? You'd better not have done this at work-your boss will skin you alive if he replaces out!"
"I didn't cook it. My boss gave this to me," Tiffany answered.
Eric's eyes lit up. "Did you say Mr. Lewis gave you the soup?"
She didn't respond, but it didn't stop Eric from looking delighted. "Not bad, Tiff! You managed to latch onto Mr. Lewis in such a short time! I told you he thinks highly of you, didn't I? You only need to sweet-talk him a little and be more obedient. All men like that-"
Teresa swatted him when she heard what he said. "What nonsense are you spouting?"
