Out of nowhere, the sweet melody of her phone's ringtone snapped Evangeline back to reality. She stared at the name dancing on the screen, hesitated for just a second, and then accepted the call.

"Make it quick, and don't mess with my downtime!" She was not in the mood for Walter's rambling and made that clear right off the bat.

To her surprise, it was not Walter's voice on the other end.

"Evangeline, do you always boss around Mr. Walter Gordon like this?" Caden's voice came through, laced with an awkward chuckle. Evangeline's lips quirked up in a half-smile.

"Uh, Evangeline, I'm at Kronovia Royale Pub with Mr. Walter Gordon. He's been in a foul mood, knocking back drinks like there's no tomorrow, and now he's running a fever, I think. Can you come and help me get him home?"

"Can't he make it back on his own?" Evangeline asked, her patience wearing thin.

She had zero tolerance for people who hit the bottle every time life threw a curveball, especially Walter, who was notorious for trying to push people around.

Caden took a look at Walter, who was slumped against his shoulder, and said, "He's... not in the best shape to do that. Plus, I'm pretty sure he's got a fever." Caden could feel the heat radiating off Walter and knew it was not good.

Evangeline did not want to care about what happened to Walter, but the mention of a fever tugged at her heartstrings. Infections could spike a fever, could it not?
