Chapter 352

Otherwise, why would Chuck protect Ben?

Max understood. “It seems you’ve set your sights on my brother.”

Gina hesitated. “You’re not going to stop me, are you?”

Max deliberately said, “What do you think?”,

“You can’t stop me, but I can understand that you two, as a family, will stick together.”

V.

Max smiled. “How could I stop you? You’ve set your sights on my brother, and he’s also got his eyes on you. I won’t stop you, I want to protect you.”

Gina said calmly, “I don’t need protection.”

Even if she was alone, she could protect herself very well.

“Alright, alright. Who knows, maybe I can help you?” Max asked.

Gina was puzzled. “Chuck is your brother. If you help me, wouldn’t you be opposing your family? Wouldn’t that be bad for you?”

Max smiled indifferently. “What’s the big deal? Our family isn’t all that united anyway.”

“I don’t want to drag you into this,” Gina said.

“What’s this about dragging me into it?” Max glanced around and lowered his voice as if sharing a secret with Gina. “If you take down my brother, it would actually be good for me.”

“How so?” Gina asked.

“My mom is my dad’s fifth wife, and Chuck’s mom is his second wife. If Chuck’s side loses, my mom and I might get more of the family’s assets.”

“Fifth wife…?” Gina was stunned.

Max understood what surprised Gina. “Yes, my father has five wives.”

“Are they all legally married?” Gina asked in disbelief.

“Of course not. Only the first wife has a marriage certificate. The others only have status, without marriage certificates.”

“Alright…” Gina smiled. “So, according to what you’re saying, I can cooperate with you.”

“Okay. You can instruct me anytime,” Max gestured as if inviting Gina.

“Yeah, if I need anything, I’ll replace you,” Gina nodded.

Gina glanced at the casino and frowned.

Max followed her gaze to the entrance of the casino. “What’s up? Fancy a little gamble?”

Chapter 352

“No, I’m not interested,” she said, just knowing it was the Barnes family’s casino, feeling a bit repelled.

“Where are you going now?” Max asked.

“Back to the hotel.”

“Let’s go to my place.”

“What for?” Gina asked, puzzled.

Max said calmly, “Didn’t you say before that you wanted to see my mom if you had the chance? How about now?”

Gina fell silent.

Seeing that Gina was silent, Max joked, “What’s wrong? Are you afraid to go? Because our Atkinson family doesn’t have the best reputation, and you’re worried about your reputation being tarnished?”

Gina shook her head. “No, I’ll go.”

“Mosnioca isn’t the only place with a bad reputation. Your Atkinson family isn’t the only one, right?” Gina said, amused.

Max was amused. “From what you know, who else has a bad reputation? I’ll compare and see which family comes out worse.”

“The owner of this casino, the Barnes family.”

Max’s smile faded a bit. “The Barnes family… Ha, they’ve connected with local nobility and are nearly cleaning up their image. Alright, this round goes to the Atkinson family. We’re known for our shady deals and broken promises. But I have to make it clear first. I’m a good person. Do you believe me?”

Gina hesitated for a moment. “We’ll see.”

Max looked hurt. “You didn’t say you trust me.”

Gina awkwardly smiled.

“By the way, you mentioned that my brother is running a very nefarious operation. What exactly is it?” Max asked.

Gina glanced around. Standing here and discussing business might attract too much attention, especially since the police had just been here, and there were still people lingering around, curious about what was going on.

Max also noticed the issue and looked at Gina. “Let’s go. We can talk in the car.”

In the car.

“At first, I discovered that Zach Presley, the obstetrician-gynecologist in my private hospital, was involved in an illegal scheme to produce male babies and sell harmful remedies,” Gina recounted.

Max asked while driving, “He did this directly in your private hospital? That doesn’t make sense. Patients who go to your private hospital for treatment are either wealthy or influential. How could they be deceived by such low tactics?”

“No, he didn’t do this directly at Prover Hospital. Instead, he collaborated with doctors from other hospitals. He used his identity as a renowned gynecologist at Prover Hospital to attract women who were desperate for boys, thus increasing the sales of his so-called remedies,” Gina clarified.

“I stumbled upon this by chance as well. Unfortunately, once the investigation led to Zach, it hit a dead end. The

investigation stalled. Zach’s father, Ben Presley, used to be one of the leaders at Prover Hospital. When I dealt with Zach, Ben appeared deeply distressed, as if he was willing to sacrifice his own son for the greater good. He didn’t hesitate to cut ties with him.”

“But at that time, I also found Ben’s behavior suspicious. However, there was no evidence to prove his involvement until

now…”

“I discovered that while Ben wasn’t selling the so-called male fertility remedies, he was marketing a type of snake oil under the guise of being a miracle cure by a healer named Genevieve. The main ingredient is human bone ash. Although it’s not exactly poisonous, I still need to replace out where those bone ashes came from. I need to investigate thoroughly.” Gina’s expression turned serious.

Now she was pondering if Ben specialized in aiding individuals with the handling of corpses from unusual deaths.

When Max heard this, he raised his eyebrows. “The father and son even have their own ‘specializations”?”

Gina fell silent.

“What’s wrong? Isn’t it funny?” Max asked.

Gina shook her head. “No.”

Her mood was a bit heavy now, and she couldn’t replace it in herself to laugh.

“We still have a bit of a journey to my place. Are you tired? Maybe you should rest for a while. I’ll wake you up when we arrive,” Max suggested.

“Alright.” Gina closed her eyes to rest.

Before long, she fell asleep. She had a dream where she was transported back to her childhood.

She found herself back at the Clago Orphanage, sitting alone under the willow tree in a daze because she was not very

sociable.

The staff of the orphanage all thought she might have autism and did not like to play with other children.

The cleaning lady noticed her sitting alone again and sighed. “This child looks so lovely, but she doesn’t talk much. Otherwise, she’d be so charming!”

“I wonder if she’s sick. It’s like those poor kids with disabilities. If they’re sick, no one wants them. It’s unfortunate, but at least the orphanage can take her in and give her a place to stay, which is already pretty good.”
