Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? -
Chapter 878
"Mommy..."
Jenna's soft voice drifted in from the other room.
Peering inside, Gilbert said, "Jenna's awake. Stay with her. I'll take care of the situation."
"Okay."
Sherilyn nodded, realizing she couldn't avoid this any longer.
"Smile," Gilbert gently reminded her. "Kids are sensitive. We don't want Jenna to feel that her mommy is upset."
"I understand." Sherilyn nodded again, calming her emotions before heading in to join Jenna.
After helping Jenna get washed and dressed, Sherilyn brought her out for breakfast, only to see that Gilbert had already left.
Remembering his advice, Sherilyn kept her spirits up.
"It's breakfast time! We've got your favorite-mini dumplings!"
"Yay! Jenna wants lots!"
The fallout from the scandal came quickly.
That morning, the usual delivery of medication was late, prompting Sherilyn to think about retrieving it herself.
Just as she was about to leave, the nurse arrived, seemingly unaware of Sherilyn, and instead greeted the cleaner tidying up the living area. "Here with the meds?" the cleaner asked.
"Yes," replied the nurse.
"Hey... do you think the rumors are true?"
"With photos out there, it seems so."
"What?" The cleaner sounded shocked. "She's got a child and still acts so recklessly?"
"Having a kid doesn't stop anyone. Heard she's been married and divorced. It's always been chaotic!"
"Right! And that Neon Nights Bar is just a playground for the rich!"
"That place is notorious for mistresses!"
"!!"
Sherilyn's blood boiled, rushing from her feet to her head, and she stormed over to confront them.
"What are you talking about?" she demanded, her sharp gaze cutting through them.
Both the nurse and cleaner were caught off guard, exchanging panicked looks.
"Ms. Gomez..."
Sherilyn, pale and trembling, asked, "Is this hospital policy? To gossip about a patient's family in their room?" "Ms. Gomez..."
"Out!" Sherilyn pointed towards the door, her eyes brimming with tears. "Leave, now!"
She couldn't stop the world from talking, but not here, not in Jenna's room. How could she explain this to her daughter? Realizing they were in the wrong, the nurse quickly placed Jenna's medicine on the table before they both hurried out. Sherilyn, overwhelmed and on the verge of tears, felt her phone vibrate.
It was Blake calling.
With a heavy heart, she answered, bracing herself for the conversation.
"Sherilyn!" Blake sounded both anxious and confused. "What's all this gossip about?"
He was aware of her past at Neon Nights Bar but trusted her character implicitly.
"Is there some misunderstanding? Who's the man in the photos? This looks bad; you need to clear this up. Maybe get the guy to come forward too..."
"I..." Sherilyn felt a chill.
Swallowing hard, she simply said, "I understand."
After hanging up, feeling utterly helpless and lost, she waited for Gilbert to return. Around four in the afternoon, when Gilbert arrived, he was stopped by the head nurse.
"Mr. Harrison," the nurse began, her voice trembling with fear and
apology. "I'm terribly sorry. It seems we've had a lapse in judgment."
QUMS
She explained the gossiping incident, suggesting, "Perhaps they could apologize to Ms. Gomez?"
Apologize?
Gilbert's gaze turned icy, a dangerous glint in his eyes.
Gossip about her?
The very thought enraged him. How dare they target the one person cherished above all, allowing.
