Chapter 82 You're a Suspect, Too

To Mala, the most terrifying thing in life was to receive warmth when you’re vulnerable. When Cedric comforted her, she felt hertough front crumble.

Hemer was rushing over while yelling Yvette’s name. When he saw Yvette’s lifeless body, he immediately ran forward. The police stopped him.“Mr. Homer, this scene is cordoned off to the public. You're not allowed to enter. Please cooperate with us.”

“We already made plans for tomorrow. | was supposed to bring her breakfast. How would she just ...!” Homer could not believewhat he saw as he cradled his head and sat against the wall.

“We found a will in her drawer admitting to the murder of Rosa Burgess.”“What murder? Why would my ex-wife be involved in this?“Yvette Burgess has admitted to pushing Rosa Burgess down the building, causing her death.”

Homer was stunned beyond words. He kept shaking his head and denying, “That’s not possible! Yvette had no reason to do that!Rosa always had bodyguards surrounding her. Even

if she wanted to, Yvette would not have had a chance.“Moreover, that was inside Starlight Entertainment's headquarters. How would Yvette be able to enter the building?”He continued screaming that Rosa Burgess had committed suicide, and neither of them had anything to do with it.

Maia was heartbroken by Homer’s outburst. She walked up to him and questioned, “I’ve asked you! You told me you had nothingto do with my mother’s death! How could you?!”

When Homer noticed Maia’s presence, he pointed at her accusingly, “Why are you here? Was this your doing? It must've beenyou. You hated her! You killed her!”

He turned to the police and demanded that they arrest Maia.

Maia was horrified. She never imagined her father would accuse her of something so vile

without any evidence.

“Are you sure?” Cedric questioned as he moved in front of her. He eyed Homer dangerously. Do you have an alibi?”Homer could only gawk like a fish out of water. He did not expect to see Cedric here nor him. protecting Maia.

“If you don’t, you’re a suspect, too,” Cedric added coldly.

The police immediately approached Homer. “Mr. Homer, we know you’re devastated, but please calm down. Ms. Mala is not oursuspect because she was at the hospital’s basement parking at the time of the incident.

“We have camera footage as proof. On the other hand, we need you to come down to the station with us. Since you don’t havean alibi, we must investigate your whereabouts.”

“That’s my wife. How could | hurt her? Didn't you say that she had committed suicide?”“That is just our assumption. We hope that you could cooperate with our investigation.”Homer glanced at Yvette and agreed. His tears continued to pour.

As Maia looked at Homer's devastated appearance, she felt sorry for her own mother. He was so cold when he got the newsabout Rosa’s passing.

When Homer finally left with the police, Maia’s attention drifted to Cedric standing by hershe felt comforted as she recalled that he had protected her from her father’s accusations.

The crowd on the sixth floor finally cleared as the corridor slowly returned to its usual quietness. All of a sudden, a young voicebroke the silence.

“Maia, is my mother alright?” Hope asked as she walked towards Maia.

She was dressed in a hospital gown, looking quite pale.

“Ms. Hope, you shouldn't be here!” Buck said, but he was too late.

Hope had already taken a glimpse at her mother’s room. She cried out and asked with a trembling voice, “I-Is that my mother?”“Hope.” Maia tried to stop her as Hope dashed into the room.

Fortunately, Buck had managed to catch her. “Ms. Hope, I’m sorry.”

Hope lifted her head to meet Buck’s eyes. She was trying to hold back her tears.“Let go of me. That can’t be my mother. You're lying! | need to check for myself!”Maia tried to offer comfort. “Hope, please calm down.”

Hope looked at her sister and cried. She hugged her and pleaded, “Maia, please tell me this isn’t my mother. It's someone else. Please, I'll only trust what you say!”

Maia could not bring herself to lie to Hope, even if it was a white lie. She struggled for a moment before deciding to tell her thetruth.

She frowned and replied, “I’m sorry, your mother is gone.”+15 BONUS“No! No! That can’t be! Mom! Mom, please wake up! It’s me!” Hope shook her head in denial as she shouted.

Mala had cried her heart out when her mother died. Just like how Hope was now, the ones they loved would not return. Maiawould never be able to forget that feeling.

Hope kept calling for her mother. Within a few minutes, her fragile body could not withstand the trauma, and she eventuallyfainted.
