Wing Of Change
Chapter 42

“I guess you have confirmed the test result for yourself as well?” Sandra’s eye narrowed with amusement as she sat across from a fuming Frank who arrived at her table not long ago.

“Just cut the crab and tell me why!_why now? Why did you keep him a secret until now”

She gave a careless shrug and just leaned back against the chair.

“You can say it’s because Daniel has grown up to realize that Samuel is not his real Dad or that I want to be a good mother to our son by telling him the truth. It hasn’t been easy keeping him a secret all these years you know?”

“A good mother you say? How did you raise him for five years while another man was claiming to be his father? That sound like a terrible mother to me if not despicable” Frank spat angrily at her.

His eyes were bloodshot as he stared into her calculative ones.

All he could see was the lies that lay bare behind that facade of remorse for he was sure she has none. In fact, she looked trilled tormenting him with her charade of waking up to the idea of becoming a good mother to a son she herself has kept a secret for years.

Frank knew he had to control his anger at that point because the last thing he needed was causing a scene and attracting any more prying eyes than he already has.

“People make mistake Frank and it’s obvious this mother is not perfect”

In as much as Frank would have loved to see beyond everything and think of it as a mistake, he couldn’t help but see her actions as nothing but a well thought out plan.

“You lied to your boyfriend for five years Sandra! And me? You kept my son a secret from me! Do you even realized what you have done to that boy’s mind. Do you have no ounce of shame at all?_I mean, for a woman as intelligent as yourself, it would be a real shame to think even for a second that everything you did up until now was a honest mistake because I know it’s not”

Frank actually hit a nerve with those words as he saw something flick in her eyes driving her mad as anger swirled inside of her and she snapped right back at him almost immediately.

“That’s enough name calling for one day don’t you think? I may have kept my son a secret from you but i didn’t lie to anyone and especially not Samuel because he is not even my husband. We never even got engaged!” She defended. While waving her left set of five fingers dramatically in Frank’s face to show that there was no ring to further prove her claim.

What?

Frank was mute for a second as he felt his anger dissolved into something more confusing at her utterances.

Sandra was not engaged? But she’d said it herself when she introduced that man as her fiancé! And to think that Frank had believed her lie and even allowed himself to be tormented by it was something he could never understand.

He pushed himself forward towards the edge of his seat and cocked his head to the side.

“You yourself introduced him as your fiancé the day we met at the book launch remember?” Frank had reminded her just in case she has forgotten.

She scoffed at his comment and said “Well obviously I had to lie. You don’t expect me to tell everyone that am a single mother of a five year old boy living with her lover do you? I guess not! so yeah, I lied!”

Frank only leaned back against his chair and stared back at the woman seating in front of him. Was he shocked at her revelation? Quite shocked indeed but he was far from being surprised.

Sandra Bassey was a woman with a face of an angel but has a soul of a demon and it was full of lies and scheming. A trait his late father never approved of when he wanted to marry her and now that he could see her more clearly for who she really was? He couldn’t be more glad he was spared the misery of having to spend a lifetime with a woman like her.

“I don’t care what decision you had to make to keep your sanity but you could have come to me if I was really the father of your child and not run away like the coward you were so don’t you dare try to justify what you did”

“I was a coward you said?”.. Her brow raised with a mocking grin on her lips..”You weren’t so manly when you heard I ran away did you? Why didn’t you look for me huh? I bet you rather coward away and cry then seek for answers”

“You don’t get to blame me for your own bad choices. I only let you do whatever you bloody wanted up until now. And right now I will do whatever the hell I want and that means am taking custody of the boy”

She leaned over the table, her eyes meeting Frank’s square on. She shook her head at him with a serious warning in her eyes.

“No you won’t dare take my son”

“He is my flesh and b***d so yes I can take him and I will” he deadpan.

She couldn’t help but laugh at Frank proclamation as she leaned back in her chair to look at his rather confused expression.

If only he knew why she was laughing. if he even thought for a second that he could so easily dish out threats and have her son taken then he sure as hell has another thing coming for him.

Frank must be the real fool for such premature line of thought.

Something cynical was brewing in her mind as she continued to stare intensely at Frank. His desperation to take the boy away from her was obvious and she could very much see it which only made her to laugh even harder.

It took a murderous look from Frank to actually stop her from laughing when she turned to face him again.

“Alright then, if that’s how you want it then let me tell you something. My son has a condition that doesn’t permit him to go anywhere without his mother. So you better rethink that custody idea of yours again unless you want mother and son for the long run then you’d win the fight but if not? You already know how it will go down” She ended with a nonchalant shrug.

Frank went stiff at her statement as his grip tightened around the edge of the table separating them both.

“What condition are you referring to, is my son sick? Tell me” his voice was pretty raised at this point as he searched her face for answers.

“You need to lower your voice Frank and stop yelling. You don’t want to cause another scene do you? Because people are starting to stare”

And indeed, people were starting to stare at him more cautiously wondering why he was harassing that lovely lady when he should be courting rather than scaring away but that wasn’t his concern for he was more worried about what could possibly be wrong with the little boy who also happened to be his son.

“Just tell me what is wrong with Daniel! Tell me everything I need to know and I mean everything” Frank was acting with so much desperation as he searched her face for answers.

“I’m afraid I can’t tell you what’s wrong with our son. Just know that you can’t take him away from me even if you try”

She got up and leaned over and placed a k**s against his left cheek and causing him to go stiff.

Sandra had taken him completely unawares.

“See you soon Frank”

She turned and walked away leaving Frank to stare back at her retreating steps. Proving to him yet again why he should never let his guards down around that woman.

Sandra was f*****g unpredictable.
