Sarah's pov.

Wesley stood in my office, shifting awkwardly from foot to foot. His usually confident, swagger-filled stance was nowhere to be found.

Good. About time he felt uncomfortable. He cleared his throat and tried to meet my eyes, but I wasn't making it easy for him.

I wasn't about to let him weasel his way back in with his charm and that fake sincerity he pulled out for special occasions.

"Sarah," he began, voice low and cautious, like he was testing the waters. "I just... I really need to explain."

I crossed my arms and leaned back in my chair, keeping my face as neutral as possible. "Go on then," I said, my voice flat. "Explain."

Wesley took a deep breath like he was about to dive into some deep emotional well, but honestly, I wasn't holding my breath.

"I know I've messed up," he started, "but I need you to understand. When I first got involved with you, it was... yeah, it was about getting to Richard." Right. "But it wasn't all that. You're... you're different, Sarah. I didn't expect to actually-"

"Fall for me?" I interrupted, raising an eyebrow.

He nodded like a puppy hoping for a treat. "Yeah, exactly."

I snorted. I couldn't help it. "So let me get this straight.

You used me as some sort of pawn in your petty rivalry with Richard, but it's okay because somewhere along the line, you caught feelings?"

Wesley winced, like hearing it out loud made him realize just how ridiculous it sounded. "I know it sounds bad-"

"No, Wesley, it is bad. It's really bad," I cut him off, standing up now because I was just done sitting through this pity party.

"You didn't care about me. You cared about winning against Richard. You turned me into a prize in your stupid little game. And that's not love, Wesley. That's manipulation."

He opened his mouth to protest, but I wasn't finished. "Do you even get how much damage you did? How much you made me question myself, and my worth? And for what? So you could what-one-up Richard?"

His face fell, and for a second, I thought maybe he was going to cry. But no, that would've required him to feel something genuine, and I wasn't buying it.

He looked down at the floor, running a hand through his hair in the way he did when he was trying to look like he was thinking deeply.

"I didn't mean for it to go that far," he mumbled, eyes still glued to the carpet.

"Well, it did," I replied, voice hard. "And now, we're here. So... congratulations, I guess? You got what you wanted. Richard and I are done. You won."

Wesley looked up sharply. "But that's not-Sarah, that's not what I wanted."

I let out a dry laugh. "Isn't it? Because that's what you've been after this whole time, right? Beating Richard? Making him lose something that mattered to him?"

He took a step forward, his hands reaching out like he was about to grab me or something, but I took a step back.

No thanks. "Sarah, please. It's not like that anymore. I-I care about you. I really do."

I stared at him, waiting for that flicker of truth to show in his eyes. But there was nothing. Just desperation. He was losing, and Wesley hated losing.

"Here's the thing, Wesley," I said, my voice calm but firm. "Whatever chance you had with me?"

"It's gone. I'm not the same person I was when you first got involved. I've changed. I've grown."

I continued. "And I'm done with your games. Both you and Richard-you've taken up too much space in my life, in my head. I deserve better."

His face twisted, like he was trying to come up with something to say that would change my mind. But there was nothing. Not this time. "You can't just-" Wesley started, but I held up a hand, silencing him.

"Yes, I can," I said, my tone final. "You've done enough. It's over."

For a long, tense moment, Wesley just stood there, his eyes searching mine for something-anything-to hold onto.

But I didn't give him an inch. Eventually, he exhaled sharply and nodded, like he finally understood.

"I'm sorry," he muttered, his voice quiet. "I really am."

"I'm sure you are," I said, softer now, because as much as he didn't deserve it, I wasn't going to be cruel. "But that doesn't change anything."

He turned and walked towards the door, shoulders slumped. Just before he left, he paused, his hand on the handle. "If things had been different..." "But they weren't," I said gently. "Goodbye, Wesley."

He nodded once and then walked out, the door closing behind him with a soft click.

I stood there for a moment, letting the silence settle in. It felt like a weight had lifted off my chest.

For so long, Wesley and Richard had been this constant presence, pulling me in different directions, and making me question everything. But now? Now it was just... quiet.

I exhaled slowly, feeling a strange mix of relief and exhaustion.

Zoe popped her head in a few moments later, her usual unreadable expression on her face. "He's gone?"

"Yup," I said, plopping back down in my chair. "And not a moment too soon."

She gave me a small smile, the closest thing to a celebration in Zoe terms. "Good. He was getting annoying."

I laughed, rubbing my temples. "You don't know half of it."

Zoe tilted her head, giving me a curious look. "And Richard?"

I rolled my eyes. "Richard's still hovering like a bad smell. But I'll deal with him when I'm good and ready."

"Need a coffee?"

"God, yes. Make it a strong one," I said with a grin.

She nodded and disappeared again, leaving me to my thoughts.

As the door closed behind her, I let out a long breath and leaned back in my chair.

This was it. The end of Wesley's chapter of my life.

But outside, unbeknownst to me, Wesley stood at the entrance of my building, staring up at the windows with a determined look in his eyes. He wasn't done. Not by a long shot.

"I'll get you back, Sarah. Whether by crooks or corner," he muttered under his breath, fists clenched at his sides.

"And when I do, Richard will finally know what it's like to lose everything."

With that, he turned and walked away, his mind already racing with plans.
