Jace Emerson

Uh, where did this idiot go? Didn't I tell him we are having a meeting at two?

“You should seriously punish him for his tardiness. Or, you can let me out, and I will teach him a good lesson.” Sean, my wolf, spoke.

What has gotten into you? You have been in a sour mood for the past few days.

“Maybe, it's because the moon goddess has paired me up with a human who is short-tempered, with no brains!” Sean replied, and when I was about to retort, I heard my gamma’s voice.

“Jace? Are you alright?” When I looked up from all my paperwork, I noticed that Mike has come inside my study without knocking on the door, again.

“Haven't I told you to knock on the door before entering?” I asked him, infuriated, but he just kept that goofy smile on his face and took a seat on the chair that was in front of me.

“Knocking before you enter is an outdated sentence,” he replied, and I shook my head.

No point in talking to people who are a lost cause.

“His wolf isn't a lost cause. And now, I know two wolfs who are paired by mistake.” Sean asserted.

Would you shut up! You are getting on my nerves with those comments.

“Are you having troubles with your wolf?” Mike asked me which broke the argument I was having with my wolf, and I nodded my head before turning my attention back to all the paperwork.

“Why isn't Walter here in the packhouse? Didn't I tell him we are having a meeting with the red moon pack at two?” I asked Mike, while I packed my MacBook and all the files that are necessary for the meeting.

“He has gone out on a date. But he should be back by now.” Mike acknowledged, and when I was about to give him a call, the door to my study opened again, and in came Walter with a long face and a slightly bruised cheek.

“What happened to you?” I asked him, and simultaneously Mike got up from his chair and let out an audible gasp when he saw the bruise.

“Don't even ask about it,” Walter said before taking a seat on the couch.

“Oh my God! did she punch you in the face!” Mike asked before getting into a fit of laughter, and a small smile cracked on my face too, but I quickly covered it because one, I am an Alpha and I shouldn't be laughing at someone’s misery because that would look immature and unprofessional, and I am his best friend, and I should be consoling him.

“Shut up, Mike. I didn't even see that coming.” Walter said looking annoyed.

“Okay, so what really happened? Why did she punch you?” I asked him, and the room was quiet before he spoke again.

“We had lunch at the cute cafe in town, and after lunch, she asked me, am I not going to ask her to be my girlfriend, and I replied no, but I didn't know that she would punch me in the face for that!”

“How many times have you gone out with this woman?” I asked him, and he thought for a while before replying.

“More than a couple of times.”

“You should never go out with the same girl more than two times if you are not going to ask her to be your girlfriend, dude,” Mike said and shook his head in disappointment.

“It isn't my fault, she has been insisting on going out on all those dates.” Walter defended himself, and I know he must be telling the truth.

“If you were that desperate, you should have waited till you replace your mate or gone out with a human girl, not a she-wolf. You know how all these she-wolves are at the moment, right?” I advised him, and he nodded his head, and I know that he must be regretting his choices, but I can't blame him either. She-wolves from our pack and the neighboring packs have been trying so hard to flirt with us, since we are the higher-ranking wolves, and our pack is one of the biggest and most powerful packs in the country.

“But, I feel like it's partly that woman’s fault too. I feel like if I wouldn't have met her on my way, nothing of this would have happened.” Walter mumbled to himself, which caught my attention.

“Who is this other woman?” I asked him, and he shook his head, but then told me about what happened before he reached the cafe.

“So, you mean to say that she caused a huge dent on your SUV, and you didn't even get compensation for that?” Mike asked with an astonished look on his face, and I was starstruck too. Walter loves that car to bits and pieces.

“She got frightened, and she started to shake in fear, and those tears somewhat touched my soul.”

“But, I must tell you, that she was hot, and I was amazed when I heard that she was still single. And the plus point is that she is a human, so I think I will ask her out on a date.” Walter said, and from the sparkle, in his eyes, I know that she must be beyond beautiful, and now my wolf and I are getting agitated since we want to see her too.

“But, the only weird thing is that when we shook hands, I felt a sudden wave of electricity course through my body and when I made eye contact with her, I knew that she felt it too, and she knew what that means because the very next moment she ran towards her car and left.”

“Maybe she is your mate!” Mike said, overjoyed.

“No, if she was his mate, then your wolf must have said that to you, and also, when you both make eye contact, there would be an instant connection,” I said.

“Maybe your wolf didn't say anything yet because she is a human. And it needs some time?” Mike asked.

“That would be the stupidest theory that you have proposed so far,” I said.

“But then, if that is not the case, then how come the both of them have felt the sparks?” Mike question.

“Guys, I don't think she is my mate because my wolf didn't run around in my head in joy or anything, he was annoyed with her,” Walter said, and I know that Walter is right, but Mike still doesn't want to go believe it.

“Okay guys, let's head out, I just received information that the red moon pack’s Alpha, beta, and gamma are here.”
