Iris Hendrix

The man that walked in was mesmerizing, his looks and build made him look like a model that just walked out from a vogue catalog, but the thing that caught my attention was his eyes. They were a deep chocolate brown color, where I could forever drown.

“Al... I mean, Jace? What are you doing here, man?” Walter asked the man whose entire focus was on me, and in a weird way, I liked it.

“Mike has left the town on an urgent business, so I came here to give you the potion,” Jace replied and Walter nodded his head and took the portion from his hand and came and took a seat opposite mine.

“Alright Iris, give me your hand?” Walter asked, and I extended my left hand for him to remove the ring. And he poured a generous quantity of that potion on my finger.

“Okay, we will have to wait for a few minutes before removing it,” Walter announced and I nodded my head simultaneously, I again heard the front door bang close, which startled both Walter and me. And when I looked outside through the glass window I saw Jace raced out of the shop and got into his car before leaving.

“What happened to him?” I asked Walter, looking at the blue BMW speed away.

“He is like that at times, a bit short-tempered. Anyway, shall we get back to your finger?” Walter asked and I nodded my head, eager to get the ring off my finger.

“Uh, you are sure that I won't be getting any skin disease by using this potion, right?” I asked Walter who was busy using his phone since we have to wait for a couple of minutes before removing the ring.

“Nah, this is a magic potion so there is no harm in that,” Walter said absent-minded which pricked my interest.

Did he just say magic potion or am I hallucinating now?

“What do you mean by magic potion?” I asked him while I looked at my hand. It did look like an ordinary medicine to me.

“Magic potion! Whaat? I think you must have heard it wrong. I mean marble potion.” Walter said he had a scared looked on his face.

“But if this is made of marble then isn't it suppose to be a murky color? How is this crystal clear?”

“You ask a lot of questions, Mrs. Hendrix, now would you want me to remove this ring or not?” Walter asked me and I immediately kept my mouth shut.

Well, who cares what this is made of, as long as the ring is removed I will be happy.

I will have to punish Mike for leaving the territory without even informing me.

“Yeah, throw him in the dungeon, he is spoiling our sleep schedule too, stupid mutt,” Sean suggested and at that time it felt like a great idea.

I was beyond annoyed, and I didn't even care that I was going over the speed limit, so before I knew it, I reached the shop in no time. This antique shop is a cover-up for the werewolves, and we can call this the checkpoint too because just a few yards away from this shop is where I have posted my patrol wolves to guard the border.

I parked the car in the car park next to a black Honda and made my way into the shop, and the moment I opened the door, the most delicious scent of lavender and honey filled my nostrils, and I looked around and the first thing that I saw was the angel that was sitting at the very end of the shop. My heart started to race and I had this sense of tranquility wash over me, at that moment, I felt like I have achieved the biggest victory in my life.

“Mate! Mate!” my wolf was yelling in my head while running around in circles.

“Go to Mate! I want to hold her!” Sean kept yelling and I had the same feeling too. Her scent, lavender, and citrus were like a spell that was pulling me towards her.

“Al... I mean Jace? What are you doing here, man?” Walter asked.

“Mike has left the town on an urgent business, so I came here to give you the potion,” I replied and handed the potion to Jace.

Why did Walter ask for this potion?

“Is our mate sick? Go and check her, human.” Sean was prompting me, and when I was about to move forward, that is when I saw the gold ring on her left hand, ring finger. That felt like someone landed a huge blow to my gut.

She is married? She is another man’s wife?

“No! Mate is ours! Go and take her human, please.” Sean whimpered and he started howling in grief.

And he is not the only one who is heartbroken, I am beyond devastated too. She can never be ours because we werewolves have a strong code of principle, whereas, morning if your mate is married to someone else or she loves someone else you are supposed to leave her alone and move on.

Many wolves tend to remarry, but I don't think I will get married anytime soon. I couldn't stand there and look at her face anymore, so I stormed out of the shop and drove back home. After parking my car, I ran into the forest and changed into my wolf, running through the entire forest till I came to my place of solace.

“Okay, done.” Walter removed the ring and gave it to me, while I massaged the area where it's still throbbing.

“So, how much is it?” I asked him while taking my wallet.

“Oh, I don't take money for that.”

“And tell your husband to buy you a ring that is bigger than the one you were wearing.” Walter joked and I laughed.

“No, I am not married,” I told him, and the shock that was written all over his face, made me want to laugh even more.

“You do know that you wear a ring on that finger if you are married, right?” he asked me and I nodded my head.

“I didn't wear it, it's my niece, she slipped it onto my ring wear, and then it got stuck there. But, to be honest, she didn't know that you wear a ring on that finger if you are married.” I replied and I noticed that the flirty Walter was back again.

“So, if you are not married then do you have a boyfriend?” and I shook my head which boosted his ego even more.

“So, that would mean you can come out on a date with me, right?” he asked with a smirk.

“Alright, but I am only agreeing to it because you helped me get this ring off my finger,” I warned him and he nodded his head, before leading me towards the front door.

“And also could you resize this ring for me?” I asked him and he examined the ring again before nodding his head.

“I can do it, but it will take some time since I have a lot of things to finish,” he said.

“Yeah, that is fine with me,” I said.

“So, why did that woman slap you at the restaurant?” I asked him which made the both of us stop abruptly.

Stupid Iris! Why couldn't you keep your mouth shut for once?

“How do you know that I got slapped?” Walter asked me suspiciously.

“Um, you are the person who said just a few minutes back. Anyway, I got to go now, we will meet tomorrow at The dinner in town for lunch.” I said and I quickly got into my car and left the small antique shop. But, before I left, I heard Walter murmur something like, “I didn't tell her that.”
