Chapter 648 The Secret Of The Wright Family

At the mention of the word "illegitimate," Frida retorted, "What nonserise are you talking about? I'm not one of those lowly women. Your father is the only man in my life!" Sheralyn let out a disappointed sigh. "I thought I was going to be Gwendolyn's long-lost illegitimate sister-in-law or something. Guess that's not happening."

Ajax laughed while soothing the baby. "Darling, you're still Gwendolyn's sister-in-law. Mr. Jenson just called Mother "Mom."""

A sudden realization hit Sheralyn, and she became elated again. However, she was curious about Cedrick's background.

"Since Mr. Jenson is my brother, why is he also the eldest grandson of the Jenson family? Was he taken away wrongly by the Jenson family ten years ago?" Frida glared at Sheralyn. "Have you been reading too many novels and watching too much drama? Where did you get all these silly ideas from?"

Sheralyn became more confused. "If that's not the case, then what is happening exactly? Is Mr. Jenson the son of the Wright family or the Jenson family?"

Cedrick patted Frida's back gently. "This is a long story. Mom, I'd like to speak with you in private."

Frida raised her head and saw the seriousness in his eyes. "Okay, let's go to the meeting room."

With that, they left the living hall one after another.

As Gwendolyn watched Cedrick's retreating figure, her suspicion grew stronger.

I can't believe Cedrick requested to speak with Frida without me. What is he going to talk to her about?

As various thoughts ran through Gwendolyn's mind, Sheralyn grabbed her arm. "Gwendolyn, have you had breakfast? I can ask our chef to prepare a sumptuous meal customized to your palate."

Ajax reminded, "Darling, don't be overzealous. It's not good to have such rich food for breakfast.

Sheralyn looked daggers at him. "Anyway, Gwendolyn understands my intentions. I wouldn't dare to think of hurting her."

Gwendolyn smiled as she watched the couple bicker. "Indeed, I haven't had breakfast. But there's no need for such huge fanfare. Since Cedrick is willing to acknowledge the Wright family, he must treat you as family. We'll eat what you usually have."

"How can I do that? I'll ask them to prepare more."

Since Frida was away talking to Cedrick, Sheralyn made the call and instructed the butler, "Head to the kitchen quickly and ask them to prepare a few more breakfast items. Be sure to make them exquisite." "Yes, Ms. Wright."

Once that was settled, Gwendolyn approached Ajax to take a look at the baby in his arm.

"How old is he?" she asked.

Ajax replied. "Three months."

Ajax passed the baby to Gwendolyn. "Would you like to carry him? Bruce can be quite playful, but I'm sure he'll be well-behaved in your arms."

Gwendolyn became particularly fond of children since she had her own. She happily carried Bruce.

Sure enough, not only did Bruce Wright not make a fuss, but he also smiled widely at Gwendolyn. He seemed to have taken a liking to her at first sight.

Sheralyn felt a bit odd as she watched the friendly interaction between her husband and Gwendolyn.

She did not know Ajax was Gwendolyn's subordinate during their previous stint at the dark organization.

Gwendolyn was the one who had ordered him to infiltrate Wright Construction Group and spy on the senior management.

"Your baby boy seems to be more energetic than my Benny. Boys should grow up to be strong. Feel free to approach me and Cedrick if you two face any difficulties regarding Bruce's education in the future," Gwendolyn said.

Ajax was touched. "On behalf of Bruce, I sincerely thank you for your kindness."

The trio chatted casually for another half an hour when the kitchen informed them that breakfast was ready.

They proceeded to make their way to the dining room.

Frida and Cedrick had yet to return, so the trio continued their chat at the dining table.

Another ten minutes had passed, and there was still no sight of Frida and Cedrick.

Gwendolyn could not help but feel curious. What have they been talking about? And the secret of the Wright family that Cedrick is withholding from me, what exactly is it?

Five minutes later, Frida and Cedrick emerged hurriedly from the meeting room and walked toward the dining room.

As they walked over, Gwendolyn noticed that they looked exceptionally calm. Even Frida, ecstatic from seeing her son earlier, was composed.

That was quick. She immediately switched back to her role of an earnest host. I wonder what exactly she knows.... Questions and doubts swarmed Gwendolyn's mind, distracting her from eating breakfast. All Gwendolyn could think of was Cedrick hiding the secret of the Wright family from her.

"Darling, help yourself to the food. The butter bun made by our chef is one of the best." Cedrick spoke gently and passed Gwendolyn a bun.

Gwendolyn ate the bun without responding.

The Wright residence used to be a place full of painful memories for her.

However, with the arrival of Bruce, the house underwent a major revamp, and all unpleasant memories disappeared with the removal of the old decoration and furniture.

As for Cedrick, the house was missing a sense of familiarity,

After finishing breakfast, everyone chatted for a while in the courtyard.

When Cedrick and Gwendolyn were about to leave, Frida held back her tears and said to Cedrick with a choking voice, "My dear child, you and Gwendolyn are compatible in so many ways. I hope you will spend your life with her well. I wish nothing but eternal happiness for your family."

Cedrick smiled faintly in response. "I will."

"Whenever you're free, come back with Gwendolyn. I'll always... have you in my mind."

"Okay.

Gwendolyn listened to their conversation quietly at the side. She could feel Frida behaving a bit distant toward Cedrick.

What exactly transpired between them in the meeting room?

Various doubts filled Gwendolyn's mind, leaving her feeling restless.

Upon entering the car, the impatient Gwendolyn immediately asked, "What's wrong with Frida? She seems slightly out of sorts after the chat with you in the meeting room."

Cedrick, seated beside her, replied in a calm tone, "I simply told her the truth about Maverick. Her son was taken from her at birth because Old Mr. Wright despised her background and felt she would not be a good mother. Years later, Maverick was sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and became my subordinate. Then, her son died because of me. Though I went to the Wright family to seek refuge, I did my filial duty to the family on behalf of Maverick for more than ten years. But ultimately, I'm not her true flesh and blood, so it's normal for her to feel a little phobic."

As Cedrick recounted the past, his face was expressionless as if it was someone else's story.

However, Gwendolyn knew confidently that Cedrick was elated when he entered the Wright residence earlier.

It was thus puzzling to her when his enthusiasm began to falter slowly after he was in the house. She probed further, "You both spoke for more than an hour. I'm sure other matters were brought up as well?" Cedrick remained emotionless. He looked out the window without turning to look at her.

Gwendolyn moved closer and forcefully turned Cedrick's face toward hers. "Your expression tells me that you're hiding something huge, and it's likely related to me. Otherwise, you won't be acting so strangely."

Cedrick kept mum.

Then, Gwendolyn noticed something weird about the scenery outside the car window.

"Wait. This isn't the way we came earlier. Are we not returning to the hotel? Where are you going?"
