ALLIE

“Sam. Stop!”

That name stopped me in my tracks. I haven’t heard that name in so long.

The fact that it came from his lips, hit my chest like a wrecking ball.

I stood, looking down the hallway. My mind flooded. My heart sank. My gut felt sick. I was frozen.

“Please. Turn around.”

A lump developed in my throat and my hands clenched.

“Sam.”

I bit my top lip, held my head high and turned around.

I looked into his eyes and ticked my head quick.

He stepped closer.

I’m shaking. I swallow the lump. I’m not going to give him the satisfaction.

I put up my front.

He holds up the file as he walks to me. “It’s true. Isn’t it?”

I don’t answer.

My breathing is shaky.

He’s a foot off me. “Tell me, Sam. Tell me it’s true.” His eyes study me.

I suck in a breath. “No. It’s not.”

“Don’t…lie to me.” He grits.

I stare at him. I could tell him the truth, but I don’t want his apology. I don’t want his groveling. I want him to suffer. Just I have.

He grabs the back of my neck and holds the file in my face. “Is it true?!”

“No!” I yell.

“Don’t fucking lie to me, Sam!” He yells.

My eyes shut as the lump gets bigger.

I open them and his eyes meet mine. A tear slips out and runs down my cheek.

He lets go and backs off. “Sam…” he shakes his head as he speaks quietly.

“Don’t.” I grit.

My chest heaves as I my breaths shudders.

“Please. Just…let me…” He reaches for my arm.

I rip it away. “Don’t touch me.” I grind as more tears fall.

“Sam. I’m sorry…I’m so fucking sorry.” He steps closer.

I hold up my hand. “Stay away from me, Darcy.”

I turn and run down the hall.

“Sam!”

I leave the unit and catch a cab to my apartment.

I get home and I'm sobbing as I shrug my coat off and throw my bag.

I go to my room and pull out a box.

I take it to the kitchen and set it on the island.

I rummage through my drawers for a lighter and thoughts of Darcy and what he did to me run through my head.

I replace one and a pair of scissors.

I slam them down on the counter and open the box. I pull out a small gold bowl, some dried herbs and one of Darcy’s shirts.

I cut off a piece of shirt and toss the rest in the box.

“You won’t be able to hurt anyone else, Darcy.”

I put the herbs in the bowl with the shirt.

I hold my hand over it and whisper words over it.

I pick up the lighter and look at it. “You won’t love anymore. This will hurt you, but you hurt me first.”

I light the bowl and it explodes in flames and dies down. I watch as his shirt is eaten by red hot embers turning to black ash.

DARCY

I walk into Zane’s lab and flop into the chair.

“What happened?” Zane asks.

“I fucked up. That’s what happened.” I say.

“What do you mean?” Saysha asks.

I chuckle to myself. “Everyone told me. You all said it. Did I listen? No. This life. My life. Just punched me in the gut."

Zane tilted his. “Darcy.”

“I burned someone and now she’s burning me back. I deserve it. I deserve everything.” I say.

“Who Allie?” Azriel asks.

“Ye…” I start then break out into a coughing fit.

“Darcy?”

I try to breathe, but I can’t. I grab at my chest as it feels like my heart is being crushed.

I fall off the chair to my hands and knees.

“Darcy!” Zane and Saysha run and fall down to me. They’re bending down, trying to see what’s going on.

“Zane, he’s beat red. He can’t breathe! Darcy!” Saysha claps my back.

I gasping for air and gripping my chest.

“Move!” Azriel yells. He drops in front of me, lifting my head. My eyes clamp shut and open wide as I try to suck in a breath.

“Darcy! Look at me.” I do as he says. As soon as my eyes meet his, I scream at the pain in my chest as my breath comes back.

I start to dry heave. I’m about to puke. When I do, I puke pink smoke.

“WHAT THE FUCK?!” Zane yells.

“What’s wrong with him?!” Saysha asks Azriel in a panic.

I drop my head to the floor crying at the pain. I feel like my heart is being crushed. “Make it stop!” I cry.

Azriel pushes me up and looks into my eyes.

He places a hand on my heart. “Darcy, was the person you hurt, Allie?”

I scrunch my face. “Yes.” I grind and fall into his chest.

“Damn.” He says. He starts searching his pockets. Pulling out baggies and looking at them.

“Azriel, what the hell is going on?” Zane growls.

“Allie is using magic against him. She's literally trying to tear out his ability to love.” He stands and runs to his bag. “The poor girl has no idea what’s she’s doing.”

“She’s killing him that’s what’s she’s doing!” Zane yells.

“No, she’s not killing him. But. What she’s messing with is dangerous. You can’t kill love, you can only redirect it. The problem is, some people, like our young Alpha, have a lot of it. You condense that much love in one direction and you get an obsessed, dangerous creature that will stop at nothing to get the one he loves.”

I’m on the floor, whining at the pain.

My wolf is going insane. He’s slamming against his cage. Boiling up.

“AARRGGHHH!” I yell as he surfaces and my eyes glow.

“What’s happening?!” Saysha yells.

Azriel steps back. “I’m too late. GET BACK!”

I explode out of my clothes and my wolf lands on his paws. He lets out an Alpha howl and runs for the lab window. He crashes through it and runs through the court. People scream and get out of the way as I look around. My vision is covered in a pink a hue.

I run for the lobby. My paws skidding on the slick floors. I’m drooling, snarling and my heart is pounding. I need to get to her now. I run for the floor to ceiling window. I lower my head and smash through it out to the street.

On the sidewalk, I raise my nose. Raspberries are this way. My wolf growls and runs. I run into traffic, not caring about the cars blowing horns at me. I’m following the scent.

My paws slip and command traction as I turn corners.

I’m running through the city with fierce determination.

I get to Allies building. I run up the steps, lower my head and bust the glass in the door. Alarms sound and people in the lobby jump in fright.

The lobby attendants shift and try to stop me. They jump me and I throw one into a group of people and the other I threw toward the lobby counter, smashing him through it.

I run for the stairs and bash the metal door. It bursts open and I run up the stairs. When I get to Allies floor, my wolf breaks that door down.

I run down the hall and howl loud. I’m a drooling mess as I crash through her front door.

She was at her kitchen island. She screamed and fell off her stool.

My wolf sees her. He lowers his head. His libido is through the roof. He wants his prize and he wants it now.

She’s crawling away backwards. “Stay away from me!” She cries.

He snarls and snaps at her. Demanding submission. His hair is on end. He’s crazed and I can’t shift him back.

He stalks her.

She hits a wall and he gets up close. His muzzle brushing her cheek as he growls.

“Please.” She chokes as she turns her head.

He stared at her, licking his lips as he bared his large canines.

Then I felt a sting on my hind quarters.

My wolf turns around and Zander and Ricky are both on one knee with tranquilizers. My wolf lunges and they fire four to my chest. I fall on my side on the floor.

My wolf whines as the wolfsbane works it way into my system.

I hear Allie crying. I hear Zander tell people to get me out of there. I hear Azriel say he’ll try to reverse it.

My vision blurs and I feel myself being lifted off the floor.

I close my eyes and I black out.

ALLIE

I sit on the floor with my hand to my nose as I sob uncontrollably.

Azriel comes to me. “Do you realize what you could have done!” He yells.

“I’m sorry.” I choke.

“Allie. This…you can’t use your magic like this.” He shakes his head.

I choke back a breath. “I…I wanted him to pay! He had to pay!....” I cry out.

Azriel grabs me and I grab his jacket and cry hard into it.

He looks to Zander. “I’ll take care of this. I’ll reverse what she’s done.”

Zanders face is full of anger. “This better be dealt with.” He growls as he stomps out the door.

Azriel drives me to Bears place. The ride was silent as I look out the window.

I thought my revenge would be sweet, but seeing Darcy like that, had me flooded with guilt. I wanted to hurt him, but I crossed the line. I didn’t realize what I done, until I looked into his wolfs eyes. The unnatural pain and suffering I delivered to him. I turned into something worse than Darcy.

I turned into a monster.

I chew on my nails as I try not to break down again.

We pull into Bears pack house and he’s on the front step.

Azriel helps me out of the car. He hands me off to Bear who wraps his arms around my head stroking my hair. I don’t deserve his kindness, but right now it’s calming to me.

“Your crystal.” Azriel hands it to me.

“Azriel?” I squeak.

“Yes dear.” He says.

“I’m sorry.” My chin quivers.

He tilts his head to me. “I know you are.” He turns and gets in his car. We watch him leave.

Bear looks down at me. “I prepared your room.”

I nod and he takes me inside.

In my room, I sit on my bed. My knees are pulled up and my arms are crossed on them. I cry softly into them.

I thought I’d be filled with thoughts of the reason I started this, but instead I think of his smile.

I didn’t think I’d ever want to see it, but now it’s all I want to see. I don’t think he’ll ever smile at me again knowing that I tried to poison him.

I run my fingers through my hair and look out the window. The moons almost full. It’s so bright outside. It makes me think of the wolf run he so desperately tried to get right.

I look at the tray of food Bear brought for me which I didn’t eat.

It made me think of his stupid, goofy smile as he held up the coffee he bought for me.

I thought of his sweet face as he leaned on the punching bag.

This whole time I truly believed he just wanted in my pants, but really he was trying so hard to get into my heart.

Now, I let my obsession crush him like a bug under my shoe.

I lay down and curl up in the blankets. His laugh fills my ears. The ghost of his touch tingles my skin.

He broke me again, but not in the way I was expecting at all.
