Bella:

I was still in shock from the man's words when Finn grabbed him by the collar, pounding his face multiple times. The rage embedded in Finn was enough to power an entire city when converted to watts. But I couldn't let him kill this man. We needed information. I looked back at Halle and Hazel to see that both of them had gone into a state of unconsciousness. They sat in the circle, holding hands, and looking up into the skies, and their eyes had gone white, so we had only ourselves.

"Finn, you will kill him! We need answers!" Riley yelled, grabbing Finn, who struggled hard to hit the man.

"Good. Then he can join my mother!" Finn yelled, but Riley held onto him.

I walked up to the man, then placed a foot on his chest, pinning him to the ground.

"Why did you pull him away? He was only hurting himself, and I am enjoying it. My emotions are turned off, so I do not feel a thing," the man said, and I pressed down harder on his chest, which made him chuckle.

When he wouldn't stop laughing, it dawned on me that trying to inflict pain on him only fueled him, so I stopped.

With a straight face, I looked into his eyes. "Who sent you?"

He shrugged when I asked.

"How is that going to benefit me? The fact remains that we are going to take you down, and the entire Moon fire will be ours. Vampires will return!"

His words made me angry, causing me to march on his chest violently. He coughed loudly, blood spewing out of his mouth. My mind was clouded with a lot of emotions, but I tried not to let it get a hold of me because he needed to be alive until Halle was done.

"Look, whoever you are, I am giving you one last chance. I can tear you apart at once, so tell me, who sent you!" When I said this, he chuckled at once, and I felt my blood boil more. This is probably what he wanted-to make me feel angry so that I would do something drastic and ruin the plan.

"You are so pathetic! I cannot believe that you are the chosen one, and yet you cannot stand for yourself. You need the aid of a witch to get by, and you are supposed to be a hybrid," he said, then grabbed my leg and flipped me over, tossing me on the ground.

"Show is over, kids, and I'm hungry!" he said, and in the twinkle of an eye, he had Finn in his clutches.

Riley and I stood still, watching as he sniffed Finn's neck, positioning his fangs on it.

"I have had a great time playing with you kids, but my one-hundred-and-eighty-year-old back is too tired to entertain you," he said, and I glanced at Riley.

"One wrong move and you will watch me drain blood from your pathetic boyfriend, like I did to his mother!" he warned, and Riley and I came to a halt.

I glanced back at Halle and Hazel, who were now still, then back at Finn, who appeared to be calm under this man.

"I am fine, Bella," Finn mind-linked me, but I knew he wasn't. "If this is the end, then I want you to know that I love you," he said to me, and I shook my head.

It was a win-win situation for him. If he died, he would reconnect with his mother, but he wasn't thinking clearly, and he was giving in too easily.

"Finn, think about Kai. What would he do if you die now? Please, you have to fight," I said to him.

The man gave out a loud yawn, drawing my attention to him.

"Y'all are making me bored, and..."

He couldn't finish his sentence when he let out a loud scream, and my attention became drawn to Finn, who sunk his teeth into the man's hand.

"Werewolf venom is fatal to vampires. He remembered," I said out loud with a small feeling of victory crossing my chest.

He pushed Finn away at once, then fell to the ground, holding onto his hand. He tried to run, but crashed down. I rushed to Finn and pulled him toward me, throwing my arms around him.

"I didn't mean what I said, I swear," he said, wrapping his arms around me and pressing himself into me.

He kissed my cheek, then pulled away at once, and we joined Riley, who had the vampire cornered.

"Now, tell us who you are and who sent you, or you will die in a matter of seconds. You are a hundred and eighty years old, so you should know how fatal werewolf bites are," Finn said to him, and then he chuckled.

"Minna was a wise child, and I think you took after her, but your brainwork can only get you so far. You all are weak, and you will never beat what is coming," he said in labored breaths. Then we glanced at each other.

"I am a hybrid, and I can save you only if you tell us who sent you," I said to him, then he chuckled, falling with his back on the grass.

At that moment, we felt a surge of energy, and I heard my name.

"Bella!"

As Halle and Hazel approached, we shifted our gazes toward them, instinctively drawn to their worn-out faces. The portal had closed, and the spirits were dissipating, leaving a calming feeling in the air. My eyes caught that of Bonnie, and I felt a chill as she faded with a smile. I held my gaze longer.

"Do not..." Halle started as she rushed, but she couldn't finish when the vampire spoke.

"My work here is done," he murmured, and we turned to see him with his hand plunged into his chest, clawing past his skin and bone. He yanked out his heart, which soiled his hand as it pulsated, then he tossed it on the grass. His eyes shut at once.

"Darn it!" Halle yelled as she made it to the spot.

Then she stood there, staring at the dead man with her hands on her waist.

"He wasn't going to say anything, and I cannot compel him because he is older, and..."

"I know, Bella. No one is blaming you. I just wish I had finished on time. Then I would have forced the information out

of his mouth. He is an old vampire, and that means there are more who survived."

"What does that mean?" Hazel asked.

Halle looked her in the eyes.

"We are doomed if they unleash their powers fully on the pack, but they will not do that now. They are after something, but I do not know what yet, and we have to replace out what it is because when they replace it, they will wage a war."

I swallowed hard when she said this, but then I tried to console myself with the words that they wouldn't be coming

soon.

"Let's get going. You kids have to get back to school before they lock the gates." Halle said, and Hazel pulled out her phone.

"It is already too late," she said, showing us her phone, and the time read thirty minutes past seven.

At that moment, Finn's phone rang out loud, and he took it out of his pocket.

"It is Ryder," he said, and my brows creased.

"Hey, we just returned, and we couldn't replace you guys. We heading to the apartment," he said, and I grabbed the phone from Finn.

"You might as well call us from the afterlife!" My voice came out harsh.

"What happened?" Kai asked.

"I don't know, maybe battling spirits and vampires while both of you are out romancing," Halle said, causing all of us to laugh, including Halle.
