300 Days With The Alpha Beta Triplets -
MY MOTHER
Bella:
"How did you get in here?" The veins on my face became visible as I asked, and I prepared to switch to my vampire side.
This lady looked oddly familiar, but I couldn't place it.
"That is no way to greet an elderly vampire, Bella," she clicked her tongue, shaking her head. "When you have lived over two decades, seeing children like you walk scot-free in disrespect aches my bones, and I wouldn't want to end your life here," she said, and my brows arched as I looked at her.
She didn't flinch.
"Anyway, to kill your curiosity, your mother let me in." My mouth fell ajar when she said this. "I am an old vampire, and a woman in her mid-thirties cannot outsmart me." The ego in her tone grazed through me badly, and I wanted to end her life, but I knew she could take me down in one swipe.
I was a sixteen-year-old vampire, and she had seen two decades.
"Where is my mum, and what did you do to her?" I asked, and then she chuckled while my claws formed.
"I thought you would never ask." She uncrossed her legs. "Here." She tossed something at me, and my blood dried up the moment it stopped in front of me, and the head of my mother became visible.
My knees crashed to the ground as the world around me became a blur and my eyes only focused on my mother's beautiful face, which still had a smile. This definitely had to be a dream, I said to myself as I reached for the head.
"No!" I screamed, and then the lady got to her feet, walking towards me.
"I would love to stay around for this bonding, but I have a lot to do to change the world order." Before I could react to her words, I heard the snapping of my head, and everything went dark at once.
**
My dreams were filled with nightmares about my mother, and I woke up with tears hanging in my eyes. I was lying on a hard surface, and I noticed it was moving; then I realized I was in a moving vehicle. My hands were tied in front with duct tape, and my lips, too, were sealed. Looking around, I could tell it was an SUV, and there was little space to move around. I struggled hard to sit up, and when I finally did, the lady spoke up.
"Sorry for my manners earlier on. My name is Sue Darkmoore, a descendant of Enzo Darkmoore." My eyes widened as I heard the name of the vampire king who reigned terror on the werewolves when he ruled Moon fire.
I ignored her, looking around to replace a box.
"Honestly, I would like to apologize for what the vampires did, but you have to admit, it was really cruel for the werewolves to want to put us in exile. That is very much impossible, given that it is more difficult for vampires to die," she said as I reached for the box, pulling it towards me with my right pinky finger.
When I brought it close enough, I struggled with my fingers around the box strap, and after a while of listening to her talk about the wars between vampires and wolves, I could open it. My heart sank to see that it was just a lousy first-aid box.
"You see, we need a hybrid to complete the ritual to release Enzo, but we cannot risk using you. You are the chosen one, and you are supposed to win this war and make Moon fire greater than what it is already."
As she kept speaking, I wondered why she was exposing their mission to me. If I am supposed to cause a change to.. "You may be wondering why I am saying this to you," she said, cutting my thoughts off, and then it hit me before the words even fell out of her mouth. "You will be dead in a couple of hours, so sit tight."
I felt a pit in my stomach, and I searched through the first-aid box. Then I found a metallic pair of scissors. I managed to put my fingers in between the holes, then I opened it, positioning my hand in between the legs. At first, I thought it was a waste of time, but after a few seconds of grazing the surface of the tape on the scissors, a cut was made.
Relief washed over me, and I continued until the entire tape was cut off. Then I laid down on the floor of the trunk, trying to control my breathing.
"Struggling will only make it worse." I pulled off the tape on my lips, then I bit my lower lip to prevent myself from shouting.
For a moment, I laid there, thinking of what to do.
"You are awfully too quiet. What are you doing back there, you little pest?" she yelled, and I remained still, watching the scissors I had just used. "I have heard of how mischievous you are, so just know you cannot do anything I am not aware of." When she said this, an idea rang in my mind, causing me to sit up.
Quietly, I searched the first-aid box, grabbing a tweezer. Then I took the scissors lying on the floor of the trunk. I sat up at once, aiming for the steering wheel. With a swift and precise aim, I let go of the scissors, watching it swing forward, lodging itself into the center of the steering, causing Sue to lose control momentarily. I took that opening at once, and I moved swiftly to the front seat with the speed of light.
"You little..."
Before she could finish, I had her neck with the tweezer pointed to it. I drove it into her neck, allowing her blood to seep out.
"One wrong movement, and it will be over," I said, and then she chuckled with her hand still on the steering. The road was clear, and as long as her hands were on the wheel, I was safe.
"I have to give it to you. I am really proud," she said, and I scoffed, pushing the tweezer further. A sickening gurgle rose from her chest, the sound of blood choking her breaths.
"Who said you could speak?" I gritted my teeth as my hold on her neck tightened, but a smile hung on her face. "I could jump out of the car if you are planning to let go of the wheel, but you would be dead once I sever your head." She chuckled again, which intimidated me.
"I actually dare you to kill me," she said, causing me to lose composure for a moment.
This was why I hated vampires. They were never straightforward. I feared she wanted to die like the nameless vampire, leading us to a dead end again.
"What are you waiting for, silly child? Kill me and see if you will live," she said, and I swallowed hard. "You think you became a vampire by magic? You have been wondering why I look familiar, because you belong to me. I am like your mother, vampire, because I turned you into one." Her words made me lose myself, and she grabbed my hand at once, flipping me away in the twinkle of an eye.
I fell to the back seat, and she grabbed the wheel.
"Bye-bye, bitch!" she yelled as she headed for a cliff. "If dying means killing you, then gladly."
Sue laughed maniacally, her grip tightening on the steering wheel as she veered the car closer to the edge of the cliff. The vehicle roared as it sped along the uneven terrain, bouncing with every bump and sending me tumbling in the back seat.
My head pounded, and my vision blurred momentarily as I struggled to steady myself.
"You're insane!" I shouted, clawing at the seats as I tried to ground myself.
"And you're slow, little pest!" Sue sneered, with her hands gripping the wheel tightly. Her eyes gleamed with a dangerous thrill as she twisted the wheel sharply, causing the SUV to swerve violently to the left. I slammed against the door with a groan, the metallic taste of blood filling my mouth.
I couldn't let her win.
Summoning every ounce of strength, I launched myself forward, clawing my way over and grabbing at the steering wheel. My fingers closed around it, and I yanked it hard to the right. The car jerked, screeching. Sue snarled.
"Let go, you brat!" She elbowed me in the ribs, knocking the air out of me, but I refused to release my grip. Desperation fueled my strength as I twisted the wheel again, this time aiming to destabilize her control entirely.
The SUV hit a rock, lurching violently as it careened off course. Sue screamed, her voice mingling with the grinding of metal and the thunderous roar of the engine. The car spun out of control, skidding wildly before slamming into a towering tree with an ear-splitting crash.
The impact hurled me to the passenger seat, my body colliding with the door as glass shattered around us. Pain shot through my shoulder and ribs, and my vision dimmed for a moment.
Sue's grip on the wheel slackened, her head jerking forward before slumping to the side. A low groan escaped her lips as blood trickled from her temple, staining her pale skin.
The world spun around me, but I forced my eyes open, my breaths shallow and ragged. The car had stopped, but the cliff was just a stone's throw away, and the tree had spared us from plummeting to our deaths.
I reached out weakly, my trembling hand brushing against the door handle. Before I could pull it, darkness swallowed me whole, dragging me into unconsciousness.
