Bella:

Watching my friends get thrown out hurt. Worse, they hated me, except Hazel, who seemed to understand me a bit. Their words still hurt deeply, and I wished I could speed up this process so that I could prevent their plans from happening. But they kept me in the dark. No one had outrightly told me the exact things that needed to be done for Enzo to be released.

"Hey, are you okay?" someone asked, and I looked up to see Mabel peeking into my room.

My eyes were filled with tears, so of course, I wasn't okay.

"If you don't-"

"No, you can come in." She opened the door further, walking into my room with Lyra.

They shut the door and made their way to my bed, causing me to sit up. We remained in silence for a while before Lyra broke it.

"You can always shut it off, you know. I haven't felt a thing in almost a year, and I don't think I want to," she said, and I couldn't help but look into her eyes.

Someone hiding that amount of hurt for a year or more might crumble when they finally turned it on.

"You know it could kill you when you go that long with no emotions?" I questioned, and she shrugged.

"We are all going to die anyway," she said in a flat tone, and I concurred with her words.

"Despite that, it wouldn't hurt to feel a little. Do you not miss your family?" Mabel asked, and Lyra threw herself on the bed with her legs crossed.

"Can't relate to how that feels, but good luck to you too. I'll turn it on when I'm dying so I can feel every pain at once and pass on peacefully."

"Okay, weirdo," Mabel raised a brow.

A chuckle escaped my lips. They both seemed to lighten my mood, making me wonder what they were like as normal humans.

Lyra and Mabel kept me company until it was time for dinner. They both needed to change, so I had to wait for them in the hallway. While waiting, I overheard a conversation about me.

"We need to keep that girl under watch. She might make smart decisions for us, but that doesn't mean she's totally for us," Ray's voice echoed from a room.

"Hypnosis might do the trick." The voice was unmistakable-it was Sue.

"That's a great idea. We should send for the witch, and after dinner, you can bring her over," the last lady, whose name I was yet to know, said.

Without wasting time, I took to my heels, making my way back to my room. I locked the door, then grabbed my phone and put a call through to Hazel.

"I need your help," I whispered, not wanting even Mabel or Lyra to know. "They're planning to hypnotize me so that I can solely function with them, and that will definitely kill the motive of this plan, you know."

"Bella, you're taking this too far. I think you need to come home. I know they're strong vampires, but they haven't released Enzo Darkmoore yet. We can let your dad and Alpha Fred know, then they'll arrange some pack warriors. Also, Halle will fortify them, but-"

"Hazel, please. I need you to trust me. I'm the unifier, and I know what I'm doing."

I cut her short, then inhaled deeply, waiting for her to maybe refuse my offer.

"Fine, I'll create an anti-hypnosis spell," she said, causing relief to wash over me.

Hazel quickly chanted some spells in my ear, asking me to shut my eyes tightly. While she did that, Lyra and Mabel banged on my door, but I couldn't move because I was required to remain in one spot. In about two minutes, it was

over.

"Remember, we are not in support of this. The guys are still raging mad, and I'm only trusting you because you haven't hurt anyone. These people hurt other people, and you need to know when to pull out," she said, and I assured her I was fine before ending the call.

"Bella, come on, we're going to leave you!" Mabel yelled, and I slid my phone under the bed as usual before rushing out to meet them.

"Hey," I said with a smile as soon as I opened the door. "I needed to use the bathroom, sorry," I apologized, but they didn't seem to care.

They just turned around, and we made our way to the dining hall to have dinner. Dinner was quiet for me, and I had my eyes on Sue and the rest of her council members. I knew I had outsmarted them, but I was still scared.

A part of me was beginning to think I was truly foolish for being here. It was as though I had no motive, and the reason I was here slowly blurred out of my mind.

"Do you want more food, hybrid?" Sue asked, drawing my attention back. Then I shook my head. "Then why are you looking at me like you want to chew my head off?" I looked away at once.

"Perhaps you have something bothering you?" she questioned, and I shook my head at once, facing my food.

I took a bite of it.

"The food is nice," I muttered, and the chef, who was amongst us, shot me a smile.

"Of course it is. Werewolf meat makes everything better." Sue's words made me choke at once, and the people at the table burst into laughter.

I reached for the glass of blood in front of me, downing it at once.

"It's animal meat," Lyra whispered, and Sue slammed her hands on the table.

"I didn't ask for your help, Lyra!"

Lyra dropped her cutlery at once, bowing her head. "I'm sorry, my lord!"

"Good." Sue muttered, then everyone continued eating.

As soon as dinner was over, everyone returned to normal. But as I walked back to my room with the girls, we heard people in the hallway.

"She causes a lot of trouble for everyone in this house, and I pity those girls going around with her," one lady said. "Yeah. Why does she always have to cause a scene during each meal?" another lady asked.

"Deep down, I think Sue prefers her to everybody. You know she's linked to Sue, and she's the chosen one, so..." Lyra grabbed my hand, pulling me away from the conversation.

"People are always going to talk about you, so you just need to keep your mind off it," she said, and I sighed.

I understood her. I mean, I literally survived the diaries and Fae. What could a bunch of mean vampire girls do? This wasn't even an academy, plus they didn't use phones.

"Stop!" Sue's voice rang out from the end of the hallway, causing my heart to skip a beat because I knew why she was here.

The three of us froze in our tracks, and in the twinkle of an eye, she was in front of us.

"You two, get some rest because we will be busy all night," she said to Lyra and Mabel. Then she turned to me. "You're coming with me." Her hands grabbed mine roughly, and she pulled me away while the girls watched.

"Where are you taking me?"

"I hate questions," she said, coming to a halt in front of a room. Then she pushed it open, and there I saw it was a witch's lair.

There was a bubbling pot and a witch stirring it.

"Right on time," the lady said, scooping something into a cup. Then she turned to us with a smile on her face.

"Here," she walked up to me, handing the cup over to me.

I glanced at Sue, whose face bore no smiles, and I swallowed hard, bringing the liquid to my lips. I gobbled down the entire thing, then I felt my knees buckle, and I fell to the ground. For a moment, I tried to catch my breath, clawing at my chest, but then it subsided.

"She's all yours," the lady said to Sue. Then I looked up at her to see a smile on her face.

Sue snapped her finger, signaling me to get to my feet, and I got up at once-not because I was under her spell, but because I wanted her to think so. When I got to my feet, I tried to recall why I was here, and everything was still intact.

"Give her whatever command you want, and she will do it," the lady said, and a grin stretched across Sue's face. "You see that cauldron over there?" she questioned, and I nodded in a robotic manner. "Go dip your hand into it."

I moved at once without looking back, my chest thumping with each step I took. When I got to it, I raised my hand, attempting to put it into it. Then she called out to me the moment my finger touched the tip of the boiling liquid.

"She's perfect," she remarked.
