When Bastian had heard the fateful news that his protector’s puppy had died, again he knew what was going to happen. So he wasn’t shocked to see him run off splintering the window and getting lost in the trees surrounding the huge mansion. What did impress him was Falco stopping him by grabbing his arm.

Bastian could have sworn that every hair on his body stood on end. Fear, panic, and the memory of those hate-filled eyes glaring at him. He wasn’t afraid of Falco as such, but of the total rejection of him, as it had happened that night and had made him cry until that morning, making his eyes hurt.

So he had run away as soon as possible so as not to hear it again. If he hated him he’d rather it was only in his mind. His words would destroy him and at that moment he had to stay strong. He was Dante’s support and he couldn’t break.

So he transformed and ran on his trail.

The alpha had used his ability to move quickly so he was sure he was far away. But his scent was strong, exuding a dense tide of pheromones. It wouldn’t be hard to replace him. And so it was.

Dante was sitting with his head in his arms next to his secret spot. That small space surrounded by plants and a beautiful mirror of water that did nothing to ease the ache inside the sobbing wolf’s chest. Bastian’s heart broke.

Dante was too good a wolf, too benevolent. He had his way of doing things, but always looking for the best for everyone, and all he asked for in return was a puppy. A light to brighten his days. The happiness of being parents that was always denied to him.

And that was the first time Bastian wished, with all his strength, even more than Falco was his mate, that Dante would replace someone to make him happy. Not knowing that his wishes could be heard.

A week had passed since what had happened. And as was always the case, Dante had fully recovered from his loss, or so it seemed. The truth was that he hid his pain deep inside and showed his best face. He was the alpha of the pack. He had to be strong for many and not stay in a corner complaining, no matter how much he was hurting.

Falco was no better either, although the situations did not compare. But unlike Dante, the reason he was in an internal dilemma was because Bastian was completely ignoring him. Rather, he was running away from him. If he used to see him just for the fun of it, now he couldn’t even replace him. It was as if he detected his scent and vanished.

That made him in a very bad mood, and he was already in a sour mood.

-What’s wrong, Falco? -Dante asked without looking up from the documents in his hands, “You’re frowning more than usual.

Falco hadn’t noticed that fact.

-It’s nothing alpha,” Falco said a little reluctantly.

But Dante knew him well enough after several years of working together. A faint smile appeared on his lips, apparently it was his turn to work as cupid before someone else got hurt.

-Hey Falco, you should give congratulations to Bastian,” he blurted out right off the bat.

The beta looked at him blankly.

-Why would he do that? Is there a recent event for that?

-Well,” the alpha crossed his fingers in front of his face, “My little one is going to engage with a wolf to bond with him. His rut is coming and he intends to make it a stable relationship.

-What? -was all Falco could say after hearing that.

-Yes, my friend. Bastian is a young and beautiful wolf and he needs a male by his side to support and pamper him, and since you’re giving yourself airs of superior wolf he looked elsewhere,” said Dante flatly knowing the consequences of his words.

-Are you playing games with me? -growled the beta unconsciously.

-Yooo, not at all,” a mischievous grin appeared on the alpha’s face.

But it was enough for Falco to drop the papers in his hand onto the tycoon’s desk with a jerk and walk out the door, transforming. Dante guffawed for the first time in days. It was time for something more light-hearted, and an engagement would be rather pleasant.

Falco ran through the corridors of the pack where several wolves clung to the wall so he wouldn’t run into them. It wasn’t normal to replace the beta so upset, let alone in his wolf form in the middle of the manor. But Falco didn’t care about that. His mind was filled with something else.

Dante’s words played over and over in his head.

Engagement?

Companion?

With another wolf?

No, that wouldn’t do. It couldn’t be. And his mind clouded.

Bastian was conversing with a wolf in the mansion’s gardens when he felt a strong scent envelop him, making his legs petrify. He looked to the side and shivered. A huge cream wolf was coming towards him. Its eyes glowed dangerously.

-Falco? -His voice trembled.

What did he want, to finish that day? The wound on his arm was gone, but it still throbbed where the claws had pierced the skin.

-What is it, Bastian? -The wolf with him asked, stepping protectively in front of him, though if it was the beta coming towards them there wasn’t much he could do. One command and he would retreat.

As it happened when Falco was only two metres away and he transformed so fast his bones creaked.

-It’s time for you to get lost,” the beta growled at the wolf that was vaguely protecting Bastian.

The wolf looked over his shoulder and muttered a Sorry and with a pale complexion ran off. Bastian stood in place, swallowing dryly. He had never seen Falco like that. So human and so wild at the same time. His fur still retained the golden coloration of his coat, his normally neatly arranged hair was in a messy mess of locks across his forehead giving him a completely different look from the usual straight wolf. And those eyes, hell, they were so scary how intensely they looked at her.

He wanted to get out of there, but he held strong.

-What do you want? -He plucked up courage.

He was just stalling uselessly. Let it come once and for all, it would hurt anyway. It was better to get out of it now and start again. That was what he’d talked about with Dante.

Falco’s hand wrapped around him tightly to keep it from slipping away.

-Is that cowardly wolf the one you’re going to bond with? -Falco’s words were gruff and loaded with jealousy? It completely disconcerted Bastian.

-He… he… he… he didn’t know what to say. He didn’t understand what was going on. Falco had never behaved like this before.

So strange, so impulsive, so… so… so…

-I won’t allow it,” the beta growled, completely euphoric, as if panic was invading his chest, “I won’t allow you, after so many years behind me, to look down on me so easily for a wolf who is lesser than me. I will not give you to anyone.

And before Bastian could take in what was happening, what the wolf was saying, Falco’s arms pulled him to his bare chest and his lips sought his. Bastian was petrified at the first contact with the wolf’s mouth.

His brain stopped working. And he could only surrender to the sensation of being touched, kissed by the beta, if only for a few seconds.

Falco’s mouth was warm, warmer than he imagined. Her lips sucked on his gently, yet possessively, as if wanting to memorise the shape of them. Bastian hesitated to respond and only after a few seconds did he let his instinct take over and followed, opening his lips slightly. Falco’s tongue was soon inside his mouth licking and devouring every little nook and cranny, as their saliva mingled and their pheromones enveloped them.

Only when he was satisfied with the deep k**s did the wolf’s head part slightly with a trickle of saliva between them, letting their breaths intertwine. Bastian could see how the wolf’s eyes were shining now, but in a different way and they were simply… beautiful.

-Bastian, you are mine. Remember that,” and he smiled slightly pleased. Everything had turned out better than he had remembered.

The wolf gasped at his words, then lifted a leg and slammed it right into the wolf’s crotch. Falco fell to his knees groaning and looking up at a blushing Bastian.

-So many years behind you and now you come to me with that,” he shouted, “Well, you’ll have to beg me long enough to make him yours, Falco. Get a taste of your own medicine. Ahhh, I’m annoyed.

And he turned and walked back to the herd, leaving Falco on the ground more confused than anything else.

Wasn’t he in love with him. And he had just agreed to be by his side. So what was that reaction?

Bastian burst out laughing, lying on top of his husband, totally naked and panting after a round of s*x. Falco ran his hand down his back affectionately.

-Do you still remember that? -The wolf buried his hand in the tangle of hair all tangled after the recent activity.

-Of course I remember,” he smiled and laid his head on the wolf’s chest, “Your face was a poem that day when I turned you down and Dante kept teasing us.

-Dante tricked me. He told me you were going to commit yourself,” Falco protested.

-And well he did, or else you never would have proposed.

-Even when you hit me and rejected me? -Falco raised an eyebrow.

-It was nice to see you try to convince me to be your mate and be your current husband,” he leaned into Falco and placed a soft k**s on his lips as he melted into Falco’s arms, “But that’s another story.
