The heat was suffocating. Her throat hurt when she swallowed due to thirst, she could not remember the last time the precious liquid had passed through her. The shackles rubbed against the cracked skin of her wrists and ankles, shaking her whole body. The lashes on her abdomen were multiplying by the second, taking her breath away.

Her belly, which had grown over the past four months, holding her next puppy in it, was now losing dimension behind a pool of b***d beneath her legs. She didn’t care, maybe it was better this way, her body was so weak that terminating a pregnancy would be impossible for her and she was simply miscarrying. If only it would all go away.

“What had she done to deserve that?” she thought in despair.

-Do you think they’re lying? -Dante leaned back against his red velvet seat looking indifferently at Falco, his beta.

-They seemed desperate, yet they can be very good actors,” he was cautious in his comment.

-There is something about their story that doesn’t quite convince me,” he leaned forward thoughtfully.

-I agree with you. They talk about his mother as if that wolf were still alive. Years ago there was a rumor that the alpha of the Grey Pack, besides being an omega, was the only one of this gender to be pure and that she died giving birth to her firstborn. But now they come claiming that, apparently, the story is a lie- the beta continued with the logical thinking of both, reflecting their deep connection.

-That they are brothers, there is not the slightest doubt. Their scent is similar,” Dante massaged his brow. It was driving him crazy.

-What if it’s Sylas’ trick? He’s been behind his throne for a long time now, and maybe he’s using his children to soften him up. He knows that you are deb…” The words were abruptly interrupted.

-Shut up Falco,” Dante looked at him in annoyance.

He had been trying to have his own children for years, to no avail. All his attempts had been in vain; either the she-wolf didn’t get pregnant, she simply aborted in the first few months, or the offspring was stillborn. The pack doctor had told him that his essence was too strong and the wolf wombs were not capable of sustaining him. Dante had given up hope of having his own offspring long ago. Because of that he cherished the pups of the pack, even making him think they were his weakness. And beta was one of them.

-I’m sorry alpha, I didn’t mean to bother you,” he apologized quietly.

-Call my brother,” he changed the subject, “I have an important mission for him,” he ordered, ending the conversation.

Minutes later a wolf very similar to Dante made his appearance. He was tall, muscular, with a fair complexion that contrasted with abundant black hair with blue highlights.

two. The only difference between the two was that he wore his hair relatively short and slicked back, while his older brother preferred it long, showing the natural waves that any she-wolf would envy.

-What is your request, my alpha? Despite being family, Dimitri maintained absolute respect for his twin.

-I have an important mission, I need as much stealth and speed as you can give me,” he asked in a very low voice, as a precaution.

-At your orders- he left as quietly as he had entered.

Axel paced back and forth inside the room where they had been locked up two days ago. He knew his father would not be interested in his disappearance. They used to go for walks around the herd grounds for up to a week. His father was only looking out for Matthias, his older brother and firstborn, if he disappeared like they had, it would be crazy.

-That bastard, when are you going to let us go,” he growled at every moment.

-When you stop threshing on the ground,” his younger brother replied humorously.

Axel now growled at his brother who was lying on the canopy bed looking up at the ceiling, loaded with boredom.

-What if he uses us as hostages against our father? If one alpha doesn’t kill us, the other one will, that’s for sure,” the cub complained.

-I remind you that we came here because of Alpha Dante’s reputation. I don’t think he will,” answered Sasha trying to reason with the impatient Axel.

-You never know with those guys. We’ve been locked up here for two days and they don’t tell us anything, only food and water,” he continued complaining.

-If he was going to treat us as hostages, he would have locked us in one of his dungeons. He would be calmer knowing that the children of his enemy are well protected under his claws,” explained Sacha, trying not to lose his patience.

Axel looked at Sasha and dropped heavily on the bed holding his head with his hands. He couldn’t argue with him. His brother was younger but apparently his brain was bigger because he was able to see ghost where no one else could. If he said they were going to be okay, there was a 95% certainty that they would be.

-Do you think our mother has suffered much,” Sasha sat up on her elbows at the husky voice full of concern.

-You saw for yourself the condition she was in, not even the strongest wolf in the pack can last that long,” the youngest whispered painfully.

-What if this alpha refuses to get mother out of there? -Axel raised his voice more and more dejected.

-For the moment we can only pray to the Great Wolf to protect him and keep him alive, even if it’s just a little longer,” Sasha consoled him.
