5 Puppies For The Alpha -
Chapter 40
Lukyan advanced down the corridor. He was grateful for his good memory, something he had developed, even more so for his lack of vision, so replaceing where he was going was a matter of time. At his back he heard Lucian’s footsteps and soon after Dante, who had apparently dressed as the sound of cloth on his skin was present.
He was still surprised at himself for being able to deal with two alphas, and not just any two alphas, two who were so many years older than him that he dared not remember them. When he had bonded with Sylas he had been able to control the situation to a point, but the peak of the peak had been being locked up for so long. So many years in captivity had changed him so much that he himself was frightened. Now he no longer had the fear and indecision he hid behind his serious face. Now he had a family to look after and for whom he would not hesitate to put his hands in the fire.
She stopped in front of the huge door and took a deep breath. She hoped she wasn’t wrong. She hoped Lucian was by her side.
-I don’t know what’s on your mind, I hope I have good news,” Lucian warned her, trying to hide his anxiety.
-Open it, trust me, I never go back on my word, besides I have someone waiting for me,” he nodded over his shoulder at the wolf, who looked paler this time, but held his ground.
Lucian opened the door and Dante frowned at the smell coming from inside. He approached Lukyan and grabbed his arm and pulled him to him, until his back touched his chest.
-You’re not going in there, it’s dangerous,” his arm wrapped around the small waist protectively.
Lucian said nothing, only waited. It seemed the only one who could dominate the other alpha was in his own hands, so he would wait for him to work his magic.
Lukyan stroked the arm that imprisoned him from elbow to wrist with gentleness; running every vein and tendon that was marked by the tension all the way down to his fingers.
-Dante, I’ll be fine, I’ve been in there and nothing happened to me,” she lied shamelessly, “It’ll only take a moment,” she promised.
-No,” his voice rumbled in his chest, “what’s in there is lethal, I won’t let you subject yourself to that danger,” he wouldn’t budge.
Lukyan lifted her head back to rest it on his chest and stretched her palm to his cheek. The wolf looked up at him with narrowed eyes full of concern. Even if he didn’t say it, he was afraid that something might happen to him.
-You chose me to be your queen for a reason, if I don’t do this, if I don’t keep my word, how can I ever look you in the face,” he tried to reason.
-You don’t have to prove anything to me, you are strong enough for me and my pack,” he replied stubbornly.
He smiled, stroking his lower l*p with his finger, something he found he liked, despite being parched from the days of the rut, they still felt pleasant under his touch.
-Not enough,” he replied, refusing to be beaten, never again, he owed it to himself.
The arm that held him trembled and closing his eyes Dante released him, surrendering. He had realised, long ago that even if he was the alpha, he was losing to him, and his zeal had been the trigger for his realisation, his emotions running high. When they returned he would make it his business to show her how much he cared.
Lukyan broke away from him and nodded to Lucian, who had admired the scene with some envy, to let him pass.
-You two stay out here,” the wolves tensed and opened their mouths to complain, “If you’re out there he might get upset and I need to concentrate, besides,” he pointed a finger at his mate, “I don’t think Ellar’s going to come in with him watching every step I take.
And having finished saying that, he went inside. He only heard them talking to each other before the door closed.
-Ellar, did Ellar say? Didn’t he…” Dante looked at him intrigued at being interrupted. It was getting interesting: the Council’s most recalcitrant alpha, with secrets. Secrets punishable by law. Who would believe it?
-It’s a long story,” Lucian replied wearily.
Lukyan walked around the room, this time in total darkness. It wasn’t that she needed light, it was better this way, the various mists only got in the way. He sharpened his hearing until he heard it. The wolf sitting up after she had heard it. This time he didn’t seem as aggressive as before, he was calmer, still, the omega sensed the madness inside him.
He took a few steps forward. He let out two of his claws and wounded his arm deeply, making sure the b***d gushed out in large quantities. He didn’t move when he heard the beast rush towards him and push him to the ground, burying its fangs in his wounded arm. That was what it wanted.
Lukyan swallowed a g***n of pain and just sat there on the floor as his b***d was consumed. The door burst open letting in the slimes that had been alarmed at the thunderous sound and bristled at the sight.
-Do not approach,” Lukyan ordered without turning his head. His attention was only on his attacker and how it was slowly diminishing in strength as well as suction.
-Lukyan,” Dante called out to him, ready to turn and go after him, but he shook his head.
-His voice sounded pleased and he smiled as the teeth released his arm and the animal’s head fell limp into his lap.
Lukyan let out a loud sigh and with his healthy hand he stroked the wolf’s head, speaking softly, using his skill more easily. Gradually the furry body lost all traces of fur, its limbs grew longer and its face retracted, revealing the features of a young, slender boy. He had done it, he had brought Ellar back and his b***d had been the conduit for it. Something new he was discovering about himself.
Lucian ran to his side and picked the boy up and cradled him in his arms.
Ellar, Ellar – he called out to him without response, but after checking his pulse he took a calming breath and hugged him. Unable to contain it, two tears crossed his face, “Thank you,” his voice came out trembling without losing the hint of joy, “Thank you.
Lukyan smiled imagining the image, when two hands grabbed him by the waist, lifting him up and pressed him against a solid body. Dante didn’t speak, but his scent gave Lukyan a hint that he was equal parts worried, annoyed and relieved. She pulled away and removed the shirt he wore to wrap it around his hand and hugged him again, burying her face in his neck.
Her whole body trembled slightly. The omega raised his arms and ran them along her back and had to stifle a m**n. Despite the situation his body reacted to the reciprocal touch intensifying his emotions. It felt delicious to be surrounded by that solid body that, despite the coldness of his skin, provided warmth. He didn’t care that someone else was there, he caressed every muscle from the nape of her neck to the narrow waistband, where he couldn’t go any further because of the edge of his trousers.
She smelled the skin of his chest where his face was buried and suddenly stopped. Dante’s heartbeat had grown fainter and his body no longer moved, that snapped him out of all haze.
-Dante,” he called out to him without getting an answer, “Dante,” he called out louder, even alarming Lucian.
But the alpha did not answer. His body shifted from Lukyan’s arms until he fell to the ground, unconscious.
