Lucian smiled at the other alpha sitting across from him. After nearly half an hour of telling him his brother’s hidden history, and despite Dante’s grunts, he had concluded satisfied.

-You’re sure you can handle this, do you have any idea what the rest of the Council will say when they replace out your brother was always under their noses,” Dante commented, concerned with the other’s calmness, something that gave him a bad feeling.

-If you don’t say a word, they don’t have to know what really happened,” he rested his chin against his hand, “I’ve got a few things up my sleeve and I don’t think anyone will refute me, unless you turn on me and rat me out,” he emphasised the last words.

-You took someone of mine and put him in danger, isn’t that reason enough, and I’m not even touching on the small detail that you condemned him to death before,” he scowled.

The red-haired man’s smile had completely vanished from his face.

-You know our laws above all else, you of all people should have expected that verdict, if I didn’t they would say that I have favouritism with your pack, luckily everything went differently than planned,” he paused for a second to take a breath, “Besides, I’ll ask you a little question. If Bastian, whom you consider a member of the family, or Dimtri, were to fall into madness, could you take their lives with your own hands? -he asked, certain that the alpha would understand.

Dante’s countenance paled just imagining the scene. Dimtri, he was his twin, his other half, and there was no one he loved more. They had been together through thick and thin and he would fight to the death for him alone. As for Bastian, it didn’t matter either, even though he had married him off and guaranteed his safety, the thought of losing the wolf who had behaved more like a little brother than a protégé would drive him mad.

He didn’t notice the entire time he was silent until Lucian made a sound from his throat, catching his attention.

-I won’t say anything,” Dante then affirmed, “You have my word,” he guaranteed confidently.

-I knew I could trust you,” Lucian’s face showed its current happiness again. “Another thing that worries me, the situation with Sylas,” now the tone of his voice underwent a complete change. The relentless alpha of the Council spoke coldly.

Dante pursed his lips.

-We encountered several events that hindered the execution of the sentence: my zeal, you taking Lukyan – more salt on the wound, the redhead knew he would be taking it out on him for millennia, for his counterpart, despite having the nickname of the benevolent, could be really cruel when he wanted to be – the full moon is over, we will have to wait until next month and have someone from the Council present as a witness.

Lucian nodded. The sentence of murder under the full moon was the most shameful for every wolf. The moon was meant to see them born, to die by its light meant the dishonour of their soul. And it was what Sylas deserved.

-We have him locked in the depths of our cells, escape from there is impossible, I will see to it that his last days are the most memorable of his life,” Dante squeezed the wood of the sofa’s armrest until it splintered.

-I don’t care if you want to send him to hell, but the furniture is expensive and strange, refrain from breaking it,” chided the other alpha.

Despite knowing Lucian for so long, Dante never understood what went through the wolf’s mind. He could be cold, or simply mocking, without changing the cruelty in his eyes. He didn’t understand how at this point they could talk without hurling threats or venomous words at each other.

After a few seconds the alpha of the Silver Pack stood up, ending the meeting.

-I will return to my lands, Lukyan is worried about how his pups are doing and asked me to leave as soon as possible, I don’t want to keep him away from the manor for so long,” the words came out bathed in concern for the wolf.

-I advise you to marry him as soon as you get back, you see how unstable his…” he thought for a moment, “relationship is,” he concluded.

-That’s what I have planned, I don’t want any unforeseen events and the sooner I have my mark, the safer it is that someone won’t kidnap him,” he said with emphasis on the last words.

Lucian raised his eyebrow reproachfully.

-You’ll get that out of me until I’m ten feet under,” he chided carefully.

Dante didn’t respond, turned to leave and walked in search of Lukyan.

He opened the door to the room and saw him sitting in the window frame stroking something small in his hands, memorizing its structure.

-I’ve already spoken to Lucian, we can leave right now,” she informed him, sure of his reaction.

He turned his face and jumped down to the ground.

-Then we’re leaving,” she grabbed him by the hand and dragged him down the corridor and down the stairs to the entrance, following his directions.

-Wait a moment,” both wolves stopped in front of the huge open door leading to the main garden at the sound of Lucian’s voice.

He stopped in front of them with his hands in his pockets.

-Don’t forget to invite me as best man to your next wedding, I’ll make arrangements here for you to attend, if you know what I mean,” he said in a laughing, mysterious tone.

Lukyan frowned and by his scent the males knew that something good was not coming, but he with a slight fake smile answered him.

-Don’t worry, alpha,” he emphasized the last part, “I’ll invite you when a certain alpha,” he reemphasized, “enlightens me on the details of that upcoming wedding and best man,” his voice was dangerously icy.

-That’s what I’ll talk to you about on the way back,” Dante put a hand on his shoulder and he patted it away, “And I swear the best man thing didn’t come from me,” he tried to clear up the misunderstanding.

-Of course you’ll tell me,” it wasn’t that he was really upset, he just couldn’t tolerate decisions being made that had to do with him that didn’t include him, at least as a listener.

-Dante, I’ll make sure that the next time I visit your pack I greet him as alpha instead of queen, because the way you’re going…” he dropped a hint.

-The way I’m going is none of your business,” Dante replied in annoyance.

Lukyan closed his eyes. There they went again.

-How is he?” he interrupted them.

-Resting,” Lucian’s facial features softened, “He’s improving rapidly,” the memory of his newly recovered brother filled him with immense happiness.

He nodded in pleased affirmation that his sacrifice was bearing fruit.

-And before I forget,” she grabbed his arm and dragged him into a room away from Dante before he could protest. Her beta cut him off, only leaving him the option of waiting, even if he didn’t like the idea of leaving them alone.

-Lucian,” he sounded commanding as he called out to him, not believing that with Dante just a few feet away he would do anything untoward, “Let go of me,” he ordered.

-Beautiful, you can be very intense,” the wolf protested as, without letting go, she grabbed both his hands behind his back, pinning him down and pulling him to her back, while letting her lips fall on his.

Lukyan stilled from the impact, at first, when he was about to protest and struggle to get loose, he didn’t even avoid it. Lucian bit his lips and opened his mouth, invading her with his tongue and deepening the k**s. The hands on his back were released and fell to his sides. Lucian’s held him around the waist steadying him, knowing the effect of his power was already raging inside him.

Much to his chagrin, though he refused to acknowledge it, he left Lukyan’s lips, tasting the scent that remained on his with the tip of his tongue.

-Well, better?” it was barely a whisper.

Lukyan was calm and more relaxed. At first the k**s took him by surprise and he wanted to beat him until he couldn’t even remember his name, but as soon as the colours became sharper and the blue of the wolf’s iris became more defined even with all the details, he understood.

-He lowered his head, wiping away any saliva that might remain and checking that it wasn’t a little swollen, otherwise who would listen to the one outside.

-I have another method, more intense and more pleasurable, but I don’t think it’s appropriate, but if you like, I’ll fire Dante and go upstairs…” He couldn’t finish the insinuating sentence.

-No, thank you,” he interrupted him by raising his hand, “That’s fine, thank you,” she was emphatic.

-I’m a wolf of my word, I told you so,” she grabbed his hand back to the entrance.

Lukyan smiled as he took in the details around him, it was wonderful that after more than fifty years of not being able to see beyond the mist, he could appreciate everything around him with such intensity. He could even feel the internal wounds that had yet to heal recovering with a speed that impressed him.

He released him in front of Dante and pulled him slightly towards him with a wink.

Dante’s eyes widened as his pupils were intact and he studied him, every detail of his face without looking away.

-Lukyan, did you, by any chance, your eyesight,” he raised his head, looking at Lucian and pursed his lips, “What did you do, wolf?

And the red-haired man only smiled

-Secret,” he whispered suggestively.
