Satisfied was not the right word to describe how Dante was feeling right now. He appreciated with a slight smile the contours of Lukyan’s body as he walked a few steps in front of him. He acknowledged that he loved seeing him in such a good mood now. He sighed in pleasure and shook out his hair that was tousled and slightly damp from their earlier actions.

He ran his tongue over his lips and still felt the taste of the wolf on them. The idea of going all over him and tasting him, now that they had become more confident, was slowly materialising.

She watched him pause until he was at her side and placed a hand on the curve of her lower back, a place he liked to touch more than he wanted to admit and which showed how far he had possession of it.

-Is something wrong?” he asked softly.

Lukyan turned her face towards him and her eyes again took his breath away, they were simply beautiful. He was beautiful.

-We are close to the core boundaries of the pack, it is not appropriate for me to walk in front of you,” he said.

That took him by surprise, he had definitely been well educated and taught when it came to ranks.

-I will be your queen soon, but I don’t hold that position at the moment, but I had that status for a while so I will walk beside you, not behind you,” he said.

Dante smiled and kissed her temple.

-He thought it fitting, I couldn’t expect any better from a wolf like you, I was right to make you my betrothed.

-You’re just sugarcoating the issue,” anyone who didn’t know him would think his words were spouting venom but Dante recognised that tone, he was more relaxed with it, even if his face kept its neutral expression.

He ran his hand up the length of his spine until he reached the nape of his neck and brushing his hair aside, he looked at this area.

-You don’t know how grateful I am that Sylas didn’t mark you,” she said.

She heard him snort.

-You don’t know how grateful I am, but, still,” he raised his hand, leaving the skin in front of him with an ugly, deformed bite, “The memory of his teeth cutting into flesh will not go away.

Dante furrowed his brow and squeezed the back of her neck slightly as she took his hand and brought it to her lips, fluttering her long black lashes.

-When I do, I promise the memory won’t be unpleasant,” she felt him tense slightly. I will be gentle, I promise.

The omega just nodded his head without much confidence just so he wouldn’t start a fight. Trusting wasn’t that easy yet. Even if that wolf was Dante.

They advanced the distance that separated them from that second natural boundary identified by the strong scent of the pack members, very different from the outer boundary where only the alpha’s was, defining how far the intruders could advance and whose land it was. A measure they had had to adopt years ago to avoid turf wars.

Three wolves stepped out of the shadows of the trees and stopped suddenly, kneeling before them harmoniously.

-Alpha, good to see you back,” the most experienced of the three spoke without raising his head.

-I’ve had some business to attend to. Any unexpected events during my absence?

The tone of his voice had changed completely from the one he had dedicated to Lukyan, it was more measured, more serious, more powerful.

-No alpha, all has been quiet in the area.

-A thank you from their alpha or queen was always an encouragement to any member of the pack.

Dante watched as one of the wolves looked slyly at Lukyan and growled low in warning.

-Sorry alpha,” he resumed his original position trembling slightly.

Lukyan looked at Dante disapprovingly with the same dissimulation.

-Is something wrong with me,” he tried to lighten the mood.

-No, I’m sorry, it’s just that you’re next to the alpha, and that’s only allowed for the…

-Queen, or anyone of equal status,” interrupted the older guard. “Please excuse him, fiancé of the alpha, he’s young and there are some things he doesn’t control yet,” he said.

He cocked his head.

-Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with curiosity,” he narrowed his eyes, “as long as it’s not harmful to anyone.

-Let’s go,” Dante put his hand back on his lower back, “You guys get on with your work, let me know if anything happens.

They walked until they spotted the first roofs of the pack houses. Lukyan realised that his future mate’s land was quite large, even if he didn’t boast about it.

The reflection of a small running animal came into view and caught their attention. It ran almost breathlessly and barely touched the ground. Close at hand, it leapt towards the alpha and, transforming its body, wrapped its arms around its neck and waist with its legs. A high-pitched sob was heard against his shoulder, which was beginning to get wet.

-Quiet now, soothing, I’m here.

Lukyan could be annoyed, but not with him, even if the wolf was without a piece of clothing his pheromones didn’t show s****l attraction to Dante, quite the opposite. He was almost faint from crying in his arms without comfort for familiar longing.

-You left, I thought you had left me,” he sobbed to hold himself tighter, “Don’t leave me alone.

Dante looked to Lukyan for his reaction, but what he saw took his breath away. He expected two things, one could be rejection of seeing him with someone other than himself or indifference, but no. His expression had a faint smile on it and a faint smile on his face. Her expression had a faint smile and warmth invaded her eyes, as when she replaces something tender in front of him.

She was about to say something, but he shook his head.

Bastian needed her attention. And he needed it. It took more than ten minutes for him to stop crying and lay on the ground, still hugging him. Dante stroked the crown of his head.

-I promised you, little one, I adopted you and I don’t intend to leave you behind, I just had to work out a few kinks,” he said.

-Really?” he pouted. He’d run off as soon as his beta had told him they were back and he’d smelled their scent.

He hugged her back so she knew he wasn’t lying. Bastian then resumed his wolf form of a bright chocolate colour, though smaller than average, and walked beside his protector, wagging his tail in happiness.

For a moment he tapped his nose on Lukyan’s thigh and he touched his head, to let him know that he had not forgotten him and that he was happy that he was back too.
