5 Puppies For The Alpha -
Chapter 5
Axel and Sasha were running as fast as their legs would carry them. Axel was dragging his brother through the forest, dodging trees with difficulty on the swampy ground after the rain. They had made the worst mistake of their entire lives.
They had thought that all the brothers were together in this cause, in saving their mother from the clutches of the alpha. How deluded! Betrayal hurt and even more so when it was the first time. They had not yet come out of the shock of seeing the circumstances in which the former leader of their pack was when returning to their alcoves they had seen their eldest brother and firstborn of the five, Matías. Like his father, he ignored them and if he could humiliate them he did so, so he had been taught. He was so loyal to his father that it was disgusting to see him, but he was still his brother and son of that omega.
That night things had gotten out of control, telling the wolf they knew where their mother was, seeking his support, had been a mistake. They hadn’t finished the sentence and he had left them with the word in their mouth disappearing down the hallway, ignoring them as usual. Then five soldiers charged at them. They didn’t want to imagine that their brother was part of the aggression. He could not be so vile to his own family.
They managed to barely escape through one of the back doors without being able to say anything to Fallen or Laira. They had to get out of there and call for help from the one person who would be able to end the whole tragedy, before they lost their necks.
They had not gone many yards into the perimeters of the Silver Pack when three wolves had jumped on their backs and led to where their alpha and mogul, would either condemn or save them.
The door to Dante’s office opened letting in his twin, looking worn and with marked dark circles under his eyes. The alpha made him sit down and offered him a glass with a drink and leaned back on the edge of the table.
-Alpha, I have important news for you, you won’t believe what I discovered,” he remained silent, drinking the drink and searching for the most accurate words to inform the leader.
-Shoot,” he ordered hastily.
Axel looked at his plate of food and didn’t feel like taking a bite. Would his mother have food, would she be cold, would she have a bed to sleep in? He had never met him, he had no idea what motherly warmth was, but something inside him longed to be next to that wolf since they had been standing in front of that door. Her inner puppy felt uneasy, wanting to go back to those catacombs and claw at the door until she could get through it and she knew her younger brother felt the same way. Sasha wasn’t one to express his feelings unless it was someone he trusted very much, to him he was an open book. He felt her hand on his shoulder and looked at him. He wasn’t eating either. Those had been two very difficult days.
Footsteps approaching the room made them alert and they looked up to meet the alpha and his beta.
-You and I are going to have a long talk, so make yourselves comfortable,” Dante said.
Dante sat down on the couch in front of them and crossed his legs. He frowned at the sight of their untouched plates.
-They informed me that they haven’t wanted to eat anything since they arrived,” he said, staring at them.
He received no response and continued
-As it was, I’ve been thinking about the proposal you made to me,” the pups straightened their stiff backs. I sent one of my trusted wolves to infiltrate your pack and what a surprise I got. Who knew there was a revolution forming in a regime as rigid as your people’s? -He fell strategically, waiting for a reaction that would point him in the right direction.
-How did you know? Axel opened his eyes in surprise. Only two days had passed and that wolf was informed of everything that was hidden in the shadows.
-My staff has its methods. By the way, he told me to give this to you,” the alpha enjoyed watching the brothers’ bewilderment.
His beta walked over to them and handed them a letter. Sasha removed the envelope and read the crumpled paper in her brother Fallen’s handwriting. When she finished she swallowed dryly and handed Sasha the missive.
The cubs were in a conflict. That wolf was more dangerous than he appeared. In such a short time he had dismembered a secret heavily guarded by his father and his clique and as the letter said, he had made moves to lasso himself with the rest of the pack members. Fallen was asking them to do what they could to help the alpha, to put their trust in him. He was glad they were okay after his disappearance. Things were in turmoil among his people, though, after someone mentioned the action of the cubs to the alpha father.
-I sent a messenger to finalize the last details for the supposed coup your brother is planning,” Dante continued.
-Sasha clenched the paper in her hand and let out a sigh, relaxing after days of tension. “Thank you alpha Dante, we don’t know how to return the favor,” the tone of her voice reflected a deep gratitude.
-Favor?” he settled further into the couch, “I never said my help was free,” he sounded deceptively relaxed.
The boys froze. They already knew that in life things don’t always come so easy.
-Don’t look at me like that, I’ll risk the members of my pack, I’ll have to convince the Council and get nothing in return. Don’t underestimate me pups. I am not alpha for fun,” he smiled sincerely.
-He will receive our pack,” Sasha said logically. If an alpha challenged another alpha and won, his family became part of him. Right?
-I know that, but it’s not enough,” he looked at one and the other young man, making them uneasy.
They didn’t know what to answer, what else they wanted, they couldn’t give anything else, their hands were empty.
-You mentioned that his mother was the former queen and the only pure omega of his wolves,” the boys nodded fearing what was coming, “In that case…I want him,” he concluded.
