A Drunken Decision ( Annabelle Ross )
A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Elizabeth remained defiant, unwilling to admit to her mistake. When she saw the shopping bags in Lucas‘ hand, she even failed to suppress a snigger.

It was just like what she had expected – a man did change after getting married. In the past, her brother would never do such a trivial thing. Once he got married, he learned to bring the things he bought to his room.

Reluctant to entertain her brother, Elizabeth directly went back to her room while wondering, “Is it because my brother is a fast learner, or that pretentious bitch is too good at teaching?”

Lucas looked at his sister’s back for some time and was completely clueless as to how her mind worked. “As expected, women are a nuisance,” he thought.

Then, he returned to the room with the two bags of things. When Annabelle was shopping for the items, he was beside her, so he knew what she had purchased. Everything she bought was daily necessities – toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, undergarments, nightgown, bathrobe, and so on. Therefore, he did not take those things to the living room. Even though all those items were readily available in the house, Lucas did not tell her not to buy those things, for everyone had their preferences.

“Take toothpaste, for example – it has a variety of flavors. The one in my house is lime–flavored. What if she likes strawberry flavor instead? When it comes to problems that are solvable by money, it’s not wise to let them escalate into quarrels,” he pondered.

After putting down the things, Lucas went downstairs. The joyful atmosphere downstairs did not peter out, which showed how much they anticipated meeting the two children in Annabelle’s womb.

Such lively vibes continued until dinner ended.

After the meal, Mary gave an order to Lucas, who was about to head upstairs at the moment, “We just finished our dinner. Lucas, take Annabelle for a walk to aid in her digestion.”

He glanced at the silent Annabelle and eventually spun on his heels.

Little did the elders know that Annabelle did not feel like going out. It was too cold at night compared to the day. When the freezing wind came at her, she would feel nauseous.

However, the four elders in the house were smiling at her, which rendered her refusal impossible. Thus, she could only get dressed unwillingly and follow Lucas outside.

The elders of the Walker family revealed smiles of relief upon seeing the two people walking outside together. One was tall and charming, while the other was cute and lovable.

Truth be told, before meeting Annabelle, Timothy and Mary were concerned whether Lucas had messed with an indecent woman. After all, an old saying depicted that one should marry a capable and virtuous wife. A family like the Walkers did not care much about the woman’s family background. All they asked was that she must have a good character. It was just that their son made a slip–up in that matter that allowed a woman to seize the opportunity to bear his child. Thus, he had to take responsibility.

Only after meeting her in person did they realize they had overthought things.

Annabelle did not have any ulterior motives.

Now that Lucas and Annabelle had gotten married and two children would come into the world soon, the Walkers wished that the two would fall in love with each other, whether it was their grandparents or parents.

That would be the best outcome for the couple and their unborn children.

For a romance to spark, the two of them had to spend alone time together.

“Hmph!Elizabeth was unable to force a smile when she saw such a scene. While rolling her eyes, she snorted.

Right after she did so, she received a slap on the head.

“Mom!” The young woman turned around only to see her mother glaring at her. Immediately, she felt displeased and grumbled, “Why did you hit me?”

“Is there a problem with your nose? Why do you keep snorting?” Mary feigned a stern demeanor as she glared at her daughter.

Upon hearing that, Elizabeth snorted again as she did not want to answer that question.

“Elizabeth! Your attitude has a major problem! At that sight, Mary stopped cleaning the table. Instead, she walked up to her daughter and planned to have a good talk with her about it.

What problem do I have?” Elizabeth did not feel that she was in the wrong at all. “You can’t be this domineering. You all like her, and that’s fine. However, you can’t stop me from hating her.”

She’s a good person. Why do you hate her?Mary knew she could not force her daughter to like Annabelle, but she could

not let the latter be like that forever.

Is she? Aren’t you saying that just because she’s pregnant with Lucas‘ babies? A scheming woman like her will only give birth to bad…”

Before Elizabeth could finish her sentence, Mary cut her off by thundering, “Shut up!” Scowling, she berated, “Do you even know the ins and outs of the incident, or do you know Annabelle? How could you make such a conclusion without knowledge of those things? Besides, don’t forget that your brother is a man. If he were unwilling, no woman would have the chance to conceive his child, no matter how scheming they were. Also, the babies in her womb are your brother’s children, and they are your nephews. Is this how an aunt should behave?”

Elizabeth was not in the mood to think about the right and wrong of her mother’s words.

She only knew that ever since that woman married into the family, she herself had become a pest to the family. Not only did her brother scold her, but her mother also yelled at her.

“Okay, okay. I’m a bad person, and she’s the good one. Are you pleased with that?” With that, she ran away in tears.

Mary was speechless and furious.

She could not fathom why her usually sensible daughter suddenly became a different person.

“Don’t be angry.” Timothy hurried over from the living room when he heard the commotion. Patting his wife’s back, he comforted her in a soft voice, “I can understand her feelings.”

“You can understand her feelings?” When Mary heard that, she was on the verge of losing her temper again.

“I didn’t mean that she was right, though.” Timothy quickly explained, “I just think it’s reasonable for her to feel somewhat disgruntled from suddenly falling out of everyone’s favor. After all, she used to be the favorite kid in the family.” Mary felt otherwise. “But, she’s already…“.

Yet, before she could even finish her sentence, her husband interrupted, “No matter how old they are, they are kids to us. Moreover, she looks up to her brother so much, but she could only watch us force him to marry an unfamiliar woman. Instead of venting her anger at us, she lashed out at our daughter–in–law.”

“Then, what should we do?”

we

“It’s not a big problem.” Timothy was not bothered by it. “On ordinary days, we only need to treat Annabelle like how we treat our daughter. Be caring to her, but we don’t need to be overly polite and cordial. It will facilitate her integration into our family. At the same time, it won’t arouse the resentment of our daughter. When she comes to her senses, she will realize how childish she was. By then, we don’t need to tell her what to do. She will know what she should do.”

“That’s it?” Mary was skeptical about her husband’s words.

“Yes!” He nodded. As a successful man in the business sphere, such a thing was nothing to him.

Little did he know that for some people, once they started navel–gazing, it was hard for time to let them snap out of it. His dearest daughter was in such a state temporarily.

Meanwhile, Annabelle and Lucas were naturally clueless about the incident inside the house. The courtyard in the Walker residence was big enough. Hence, instead of taking her outside, he only took her for a stroll around the walls.

ng her outside,

Indeed, he was taking her for a stroll.

He was at the front while Annabelle followed behind. When the northerly wind gust, she hid behind him and thought, “It’d be good if he’s a little fatter. Now, his body can’t shield me fully, and I’m tearing because of the wind.”
