A Drunken Decision ( Annabelle Ross ) -
A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Even though it was embarrassing, Elizabeth decided to apologize to Annabelle. Although she still disliked the latter, Timothy was right. Elizabeth did not have to show malice just because she did not like someone. The most she could do was to generally oid Annabelle.
Timothy turned from the driver’s seat to look at his daughter. Caressing her hair softly, he said with relief, “Good girl! I know that my beloved daughter is the most courageous person in the world.”
It was not that one should not make mistakes. What mattered was that after making a mistake, one should be courageous enough to take responsibility and apologize for it.
After getting a compliment from her father, Elizabeth could not help but blush when she recalled her behavior before. She knew that she did not deserve to be praised for it.
Upon their arrival at home, Elizabeth plucked up her courage to apologize to Annabelle. However, she found out that both Lucas and Annabelle were not
at home.
“Mom.” The moment she saw Mary, Elizabeth felt guilty. For the past two days, she had snapped a lot at her mother.
“I’m sorry!”
Mary initially wanted to ignore Elizabeth for the latter’s actions and attitude after the incident. However, she did not have the heart to do it once she saw Elizabeth’s pitiful look.
With a poker face, Mary said grimly, “Why are you apologizing to me? Did you scare me?” She did not wish to let Elizabeth off so easily because she was worried that the latter would act the same way in the future.
Elizabeth muttered quietly, “It was rude of me to snap at you. Please don’t get mad at me. I will apologize to Lucas and Annabelle. Where are they?”
As she had been avoiding them on purpose, she went back to her room very early the night before. Then, she came out of her room late in the morning. As for Timothy, he kept on advising her and talking her out of it. Worried that she would be stubborn, he did not dare to tell her about Lucas and Annabelle moving out. When Elizabeth finally sorted her thoughts out, he forgot to inform her about it.
Glancing briefly at Elizabeth, Mary chided, “You have the cheek to ask me that? You’ve been giving them the brush–off every day. Do you think that they would be willing to bear with it?”
Elizabeth was at a loss for words. “But I really don’t like her. What more can I do?” she wondered.
Mary continued to rebuke her, “Lucas and Annabelle have already moved out of the house. Well, it’s a good decision. After all, they had never intended to stay with us. They can always come back to visit us in the future.”
Once again, Elizabeth was rendered speechless.
She did not know what she should feel at that moment. However, she subconsciously heaved a sigh of relief after hearing that Annabelle was no longer around. At the end of the day, she was unable to guarantee if she could treat Annabelle in a nicer way next time.
Whenever she recalled Lucas considerate and thoughtful treatment of Annabelle, Elizabeth was overcome with jealousy.
“He’s so protective over her!” she exclaimed.
With much disapproval, Mary said, “Nonsense! What is the purpose of marrying a man who doesn’t treat you right? When you get married, will you sit back and do nothing if your husband keeps standing on his sister’s side? Imagine if his sister is just like you – a difficult person who keeps sabotaging you!”
Elizabeth remained quiet.
“Can’t Mom save me some face? Why is she using me as an example?” she grumbled internally.
Seeing Elizabeth’s awkward expression, she decided to let the matter go. With a sigh, she said, “I wonder how they are doing now.” If Lucas was alone and Annabelle was not pregnant, she would not be as worried as she currently was.

Upon hearing her remarks, Elizabeth did not know what else she could say. To some extent, it was true that she was the one who gave Lucas and Annabelle the cold shoulder and forced them to leave.
Mary noticed her expression and said hastily, “You don’t have to think too much about it. Lucas decided to move out a long time ago. You just made it happen earlier.”
“It seems like Mom is really trying to comfort me,” Elizabeth mused to hersell.
“That’s enough. Go clean yourself up. We will have our meal soon. I’ll have a video call with Lucas to see their situation,” Mary said.
When the video call was connected, Lucas and Annabelle were eating.
Under the warm yellow light, Mary could see three dishes and a bowl of soup which looked very delicious. She could not help but raise her eyebrows in question.
“Have you found a housekeeper?” she asked, feeling a bit surprised.
The camera suddenly moved. Shortly after, Mary saw her son’s face. It looked like the phone had been placed on the table. From the screen, she saw him holding a bowl with a spoon in his hand, eating his meal quietly.
Lucas shook his head after hearing her question. “Annabelle doesn’t like to have strangers in the house. We have decided not to hire a housekeeper.”
“Did you order the food from a restaurant, then?” Mary frowned. She was still worried about Annabelle staying in the house alone. As for the meals, she was not too distressed. Their family had a private chef, and thus it would not be too much of a hassle to have the food cooked and sent to them.
“Annabelle made everything.” Knowing what Mary was going to ask, Lucas gave her a reply before she could say anything. He braced himself for what was coming next.
Just as he had expected, Mary gave a loud exclamation as soon as he finished speaking.
“Lucas, how dare you! How can you let a pregnant lady cook for you?”
The video call was automatically set to speaker mode. Naturally, Annabelle could hear their conversation clearly as she was sitting across from Lucas.
She had a quick peek at Lucas, who was being scolded by his mother. As she met his calm eyes, she lowered her head in a hurry. She then pretended that she did not hear anything and continued to eat her meal in silence.
Initially, Lucas did not allow her to prepare the meals. After some relentless persuasion, she finally managed to convince him. The simple meal they were eating was the result of her cajolery.
As she was entering the second trimester of her pregnancy, she was no longer frail like before, when she would retch every time she smelled something greasy. Moreover, she was neither willing to hire a housekeeper nor eat in a restaurant on a daily basis. Since she had good cooking skills, she did not think that it was troublesome for her to cook the meals herself.
She actually did not expect her mother–in–law to have such a huge reaction.
In fact, Lucas had done a lot of things for her. When she told him that she did not like housekeepers, he decided not to hire any. Nevertheless, he still hired a part–time cleaning raid who would come to their house every day to clean it. At the same time, the maid would bring the groceries for the day. saving Annabelle from grocery trips.
Most importantly, he had mentioned that she was the lady of the household. As such, she would be able to decorate the house as she wished. If she wanted to add something or throw anything away, it would be her decision to make.
Annabelle already had a lot of ideas about what she wanted to do. She was going to wait for the day before her ideas would be materialized one by one.
As a matter of fact, she had already ordered a lot of things online. The things would be shipped out from the same city, so all she had to do was wait.
Meanwhile, Lucas was finally able to calm Mary down. After reassuring her that he would take good care of Annabelle, he hung up the phone and continued with his meal.
The dishes that Annabelle made were very delicious. It was somehow unexpected, considering the impression she gave to others.

Nowadays, it was not easy to replace women who knew how to cook, let alone daughters from rich families who could cook. In most cases, these girls did not have to do any household chores.
“I can cook a lot of dishes!” Annabelle said proudly. She recalled that there was a wise saying about it. When one door was shut, another door would be opened. She did not excel in her studies, and her only decent talent was painting. Aside from the only skill that she could show off to others was her
cooking skills. It was just that she did not have many chances to showcase it.
