Chapter 111 An Interrogation

The Le Divine was one of three of Sioux’s specialty restaurants, and the only restaurant on the Sioux River. It was calm and peaceful, perfect for enjoying the view over a glass of wine. It was hugely favored by the rich.

Simon had booked a room here early on, and the four people waited for their guests.

“Lucian, remember to be polite when talking to these people later, especially Larry. He never had the best temper growing up. Oscar, too, you’ve got to watch your manners when you drink with. him. He’s very particular on drinking etiquette.”

Simon gave Lucian a lot of things to take note of in the room.

Lucian listened patiently, nodding every now and then and remembering Simon had said.

Despite him being the Infernal War G od now and not having to mind his manners to many people, these people who were coming were his father’s old friends. He would make it a point to, be as respectful as possible to them.

Soon enough, Dixie, Oscar and Larry showed up on time.

“Simon…”

“Oscar…”

Simon and Oscar seemed delighted to see each other, sharing a firm hug. The two of them had been rather close friends in the past, but had not been in touch for a long time since Alexander’s passing. Seeing each other again brought back that sense of familiarity.

After that, Simon greeted Dixie and Larry as well before introducing Lucian to them.

“Lucian…”

“Alexander’s son.”

The three guests seemed surprised to replace out who Lucian was, their gazes landing on him at once as they looked him up and down. They figured out that Lucian probably was not doing very well from the way he was dressed. Oscar and Larry shared a glance, but it was unclear what they were thinking.

Dixie was the only one who stared at Lucian in shock and joy. She could not stop smiling, as if she had discovered a valuable treasure.

“Lucian, I can’t believe you grew so much in a year!”

Dixie was all smiles as she came up to Lucian, looking him up and down with an adoring smile as

if she was seeing her own son for the first time. “Do you still remember me, Auntie Dixie? I went to your house all the time, and even brought you snacks. You were so cute, and now you’re all grown up.”

“I remember you, Auntie,” Lucian said politely.

“Come sit. We can eat while we talk.” Oscar did not seem nearly as thrilled at Dixie, speaking much more nonchalantly.

Everyone sat down, and the waiters soon appeared to fill the table with delicious dishes. In the meantime, Lucian took a good look at the three of them.

Just like Simon had said, Dixie was very friendly and kind. She had an earnest smile, her eyes crinkling whenever she looked at Lucian. She was also dressed quite simply, and did not look like the owner of a booming jewelry business at all.

Lucian was bald and chubby, his brows thick and radiating an air of ferocity. He did not look kind at all.

Oscar was sporting a suit and wire-rimmed glasses. He appeared polite and classy, but his gaze flashed with a cun ning air that made it seem like he would not be a very good friend- the kind that might drain you of everything you had at the slightest chance he got.

But this was just what Lucian saw. He did not know these three at all.

“Uncle Oscar, this one’s for you.”

Lucian stood up, making a toast respectfully as he held his glass.

“Mmm.” Oscar nodded, taking a small sip. Lucian drained his glass, showing his sincerity.

Following that, he made another toast to Larry. Larry was even colder, not only refusing to drink but saying in a cold tone, “What are you drinking for, kid? Put that glass down!”

Lucian nodded awkwardly, sitting down.

“What’s with the attitude, Larry?”

Dixie glared at Larry, before raising her glass to Lucian. “Come on, let’s have a drink.”

“Alright, Auntie.”

Lucian was about to get up, but Dixie told him to stay seated. “Forget about that, kid. Just drink sitting down. I just wanted to have a drink with you and catch up on old times.”

Oscar did not seem too pleased with this. “That’s not how you’re supposed to drink.”

“Why, will I get less drunk if I follow your way?”

Dixie cast Oscar an unimpressed look, retaliating.

“Women…” Oscar shook his head, turning to drink with Larry instead.

All of a sudden, the energy in the room seemed to take a turn for the worse.

Simon smiled awkwardly, getting to his feet. “Alright, I’ll just drink to everyone in one go, then we can get down to business.”

Oscar and Larry drained their glasses out of courtesy for Simon.

“Simon, did you just bring us here to introduce us to Lucian?”

Oscar stared at him curiously.

“Exactly!” Simon nodded, his expression solemn. “You should know that our brother Alexander died mysteriously in the past. We’d all suspected that the Gray family had something to do with it. Now Lucian’s back from the army, and he’s intent on giving the Gray family hell. He’s going to relocate Alexander’s grave in six days, and we hope you can help him out then.”

All at once, the room fell silent. Oscar and Larry looked at Simon, an unreadable expression on their faces.

Dixie was the only one who nodded sternly. “Alexander taught me how to make my first thousand dollars. I wouldn’t be here without him, and I can’t forget what happened to him despite it being so long ago. I’m on Lucian’s side.”

There was no hesitation, only fierce determination. Lucian nodded internally, solidifying his thoughts of Dixie slightly.

Despite being a woman, she was a woman of honor.

“Aren’t you afraid of dying?”

All of a sudden, Larry raised his head to ask Dixie with a dark expression.

“What’s that supposed to mean, Larry? Are you not going to help?”

“Don’t you forget that if it hadn’t been for Lucian’s dad, you’d be nothing more than a beggar on the streets! Platinum Corporate wouldn’t even exist!”

Dixie retaliated at once.

“That’s not fair, Dixie!”

Oscar spoke up from the side as well, knocking on the table. He paused to think for a few seconds, before raising his head to look at Lucian. “Lucian, you’re just a veteran who just retired, right?”

“Yes, I’m a retired veteran.” Lucian nodded lightly.

“Well, could I know what rank you held in the army? How many command? What position did you hold?”

Just then, Larry put down his glass and asked as well. “Oh, and how much money What connections do you have? What makes you think you have what it takes to beat the Gray family? Is it the shred of power you have left from your father?”

Silence…

The room fell quiet at once again.

Simon flushed awkwardly, not knowing what to say to Larry and Oscar.

Dixie’s expression was ashen, glowering at the two men with growing rage as she gripped her chopsticks tightly.

Rosine and Dennis hardly dared to talk at all, scared into silence. They had not expected things to get to this stage. These men who had once been Alexander’s brothers, were refusing to help avenge him.

“You were once my father’s closest friends!”

“All of the fortune you have right now, you have because of my father.”

“I don’t need help. I just wanted to see if you were sincere enough, I just wanted proof that my father hadn’t picked the wrong people.”

Lucian stared right at Larry and Oscar, saying the words lightly.
