A Kiss For Your Freedom -
Chapter 43
Dorian's POV
We've been at my house for over a day already. Even though he's doing much better, Emma wants to make sure Jason is okay. She blames herself even though she had absolutely nothing to do with it. She told me a little about what happened with her sister. I know she's in pain, I can feel it and it's normal how not to suffer in the face of the betrayal of the last member of your family. So she focuses on Jason's injury and I have to say without a doubt that he benefits greatly from it.
We're not out of the woods yet. Violence always breeds violence, it may be that this Alpha's pack decides to seek revenge. And anyway, we can't stay in this city any longer. We killed three men, three human beings and his sister could report us at any time. I've been on the internet for over an hour already trying to replace what might suit us. A secluded place, surrounded by nature and big enough for the three of us. I sigh, realizing that if I don't narrow down my search, I'm not going to replace anything. Emma slips behind me, surprising me slightly, I place my hand on her arm, caressing her skin tenderly.
So you found it, she asks.
- Absolutely not. I don't even know what to look for, or even where to look, and not to mention we haven't talked about the price.
- Don't worry about that. I might as well use what I have before the creditors come and take what's in my bank accounts. Let me help you, she said, coming to sit on my lap.
She places her fingers on the keyboard and types quickly before starting the search. The results are displayed and she looks at the ads one by one while deciphering them out loud.
- Much too big, too flashy, she continues, scrolling through the photos. Too close to the rest of the world, look, that could do it. A wooden house not too big without being too small. Located on top of a hill in the middle of a forest. No one for miles around and there is even a small body of water. The price is very reasonable, what do you think, sweetheart?
I rest my head on his shoulder, looking at the ad with a little more attention. It's true that it could totally suit us. Our Wolves would have room and we would be isolated enough to be safe. I quickly kiss his neck before telling him,
- This is exactly what we needed. You're great my dear. I suggest we go talk about it with our war wounded man.
"Let's go see him," she says, jumping off my lap as she picks up the computer.
We replace him sitting in the bed moving his arm and grimacing.
- Give your wound time to heal, Emma says with a frown. If you continue to force it, it will only slow down the healing.
"That means you could continue playing doctor with me," he said, smiling.
"You're talking about a war casualty," I said, rolling my eyes.
- I think we found where to go, Emma continues, coming closer to show him the computer.
For a minute or two, he just stares at the screen in silence.
- A problem, honey, Emma asks, sitting down next to them.
- I'm sorry darling, we haven't really talked about it but I don't have the means for that, he said, sighing.
- Don't be stupid. I have them. My sister may have ruined the family business but I still have my inheritance. And then, as soon as the sharks fall on the agency, they will not hesitate to use it directly from my account, so we might as well use this money for us. I would take this opportunity to close everything I have left so we will have at least a reserve just in case.
-You shouldn't do that. This money is yours, the one your parents gave you.
- Exactly, I much prefer to use it like that rather than see it swallowed up by bailiffs. Money never mattered to me. I never wanted an apartment like the one I had, I don't need big brand clothes, well on the other hand I want to keep the high-powered car, she said laughing, but for the rest, what I have with you is priceless.
- What do you want, we're going to have to get used to the idea that our wife can support us, I said, settling down next to them.
"That makes us sort of gigolos," he replies, smiling.
- Seriously sexy gigolos, much more than average, I said before kissing him.
- One hundred percent agree, Emma says, looking at us, much sexier than average. So Jason, what do you think? Do you see the three of us living there?
He looks at the screen again, smiling tenderly. I can feel that he likes it, that he likes what he sees and that he is already planning ahead.
- I can see us living there very well, he said, kissing her.
- Great, I'll do what I need to do to speed up the procedure and so that we can get there as quickly as possible. We should stock up and make a list of what we will need. It's not very close, I would like us to avoid going back and forth.
- But she's being directive, he said, grabbing her waist before diving into her neck.
She takes a deep breath before gently pushing him away.
-Your hormones will be waiting for you. For now, I would like us to leave as quickly as possible. I have no desire to see an army of cops arriving or who knows what else. I haven't seen anything in the newspapers but I doubt that the disappearance of a man as rich as him will go unnoticed for very long.
She's right, she's a lot more thoughtful than the two of us combined. I can't help but smile as she gets up to leave the room.
- Do you think she's going to be okay, he asks, keeping his gaze fixed on the door.
- We will do everything to make sure she is okay and I agree, the sooner we leave, the sooner we can turn the page.
- It's true. I hope she forgets all this with us.
- Let's go help her before she becomes a little more directive, I said, getting up.
- I admit that I replace her quite sexy when she is like that.
-She's still sexy.
"That's not wrong," he said, laughing.
We replace her in the kitchen, already on the phone to sort everything out. I can't help but smile when I see her doing it, she's determined, combative, I like seeing her like that. Jason puts his arm around my waist before placing his lips on my forehead, - Come on handsome kid, an action, he says while giving me a light pat on the buttocks.
It's crazy how much I can love them. Both.
Loïc's POV
I didn't want it to happen like that, for my sweet daughter to lose her partner even if I never supported it. The pain I saw in her eyes breaks my heart, she will not recover, not completely. I sigh as I pass the boundaries of my pack.
He should have understood that Dorian was not a fighter like the others. He was always much stronger than the other Wolves in the pack, much more powerful, so much so that even I kept an eye on him for many years. And at the same time, I didn't think he would go so far as to kill an Alpha, especially my daughter's Alpha.
The war will wait. Anyway, if this continues it won't even happen, I would win this pack without even having to fight. I really wish I didn't have to confront him, but there's too much at stake and she won't give up. She is not my daughter for nothing, even if she is guided by hatred and revenge, I know she will not give up until he is dead.
I walk through the pack heading towards my house. He knows all my guards, he trained them all, even led them. I need to come up with a plan that's safe enough so it doesn't turn into a bloodbath. I'm contacting my Beta, there won't be too many of us to resolve the problem he represents.
He quickly joins me and we go to my office in total silence. Dorian has never been just anyone and I hate the idea of having to hunt him down. He has won me many battles in the past and this time I must win without him.
I settle into my chair as he closes the door behind him.
- We have a problem, I said, and we need to resolve it quickly.
I'm listening to you Alpha.
I look out the window while explaining the situation to him. From here I can still see his house, empty. No one has taken it back since he left as a sign of respect for what he meant to the pack. History replays itself and this time, there is little chance that he will make it out alive.
Emma's POV
I'm tying up the last details. Financial transactions, account consolidation, contract signing. The boys take care of the rest, the provisions, gathering everything we might need. My car is not the most practical for transporting a lot of stuff and I sigh when I understand that an off-road vehicle would be much more suitable than a sports car. As I hang up, after more than two calls, I see the pile of stuff starting to grow.
Jason stops as he sets down one last bag of groceries.
- We took too much, that's it, he said, looking at the mountain in front of him.
- I especially think we need another car, I said, smiling.
Do you want a third vehicle?
- Of course not, we're going to get rid of mine. Anyway, a sports coupe in the mountains is not ideal. We have to think practical.
- I'm not sure love, you love your car.
- And I love you both even more, so I'm going to go to a dealership and trade this little car for an off-roader.
I see him grimace slightly but I approach him and put my arms around his neck before telling him,
- It's just a car.
- I don't like knowing that you leave everything behind, that you leave everything behind you like that.
- I'm not giving up anything at all, on the contrary, it's a new start, a new start for three, a new life that I can't wait to discover. We're going to ditch this flashy car and do what's right for the three of us.
-OK, we'll do that, he said, sighing.
He kisses me quickly and goes back to finish gathering the supplies. We still have work ahead of us, but if we continue at this pace, we will be able to leave at dawn. A part of me is really looking forward to it, eager to leave it all behind me. These disillusionments, this pain that tears my heart apart every time I think of my sister. I'll miss Melissa, that's for sure, but I need to get away. I need to lock myself in with them and feel that security that only they can make me feel when I'm in the hollow of their arms.
