A Kiss For Your Freedom -
Chapter 48
I managed to land on my feet, but on this occasion, I was hot.
"Stay focused Luna," he said as if I needed him to repeat it to me. >>
They all start to get on my nerves. Ma Louve resumes her attack position and this time, Jason will not be able to surprise me. I rush forward again, jumping over the various traps that I have managed to identify. One of my people manages to reach Jason but before he can do anything, the latter grabs him by the neck to crush him before my eyes. He wants me to understand that he will fight to the end, even if it is against me.
That's when I see another wolf coming behind them, and this time, Dorian turns around and rushes at him. She is finally alone, defenseless. Now is the time to attack him. But Jason growls loud enough to let us know that he knows exactly what we want to do and that he won't let us have our way.
I growl in turn to launch the attack, we must not give them more time to reposition themselves. And this time, several of us pass, even if beside me, some are impaled on wooden spikes which rise as they pass.
Jason steps back, he gets closer to his human but another Wolf comes from the side and rushes at her. Then, against all odds, a shot rings out, a shot that hits the mark as he collapses to the ground. She seems a little less defenseless than I had imagined. Emma's POV
I may not be a Wolf, but I know how to defend myself. I always knew it and I wouldn't let my Wolves take all the risks for me without moving. My father taught me to shoot when I was very little, he had a great passion for hunting and I must say that since then, I have continued to practice, a bit as an outlet. I may not know how to fight in close combat, but I know how to shoot and I wouldn't hesitate to continue as long as it takes.
I must say that Jason was right to set all these traps, he really anticipated all of this and seeing them defend our territory, defend our house and our future only gives me more courage not to give up. They are mine and nothing will take them away. They are everywhere, although many fall before they even reach us, there are still so many left that I feel like it is endless. But no matter how many come, I'll stay up and make sure I defend myself so they can focus on the rest.
I hear Dorian fighting behind me, preventing our enemies from advancing towards me while Jason holds the front line. Another Wolf comes from the side, he rushes at me, but I don't tremble, I put myself in position as I learned a long time ago and shoot, breathing calmly. The bullet freezes in his throat, releasing a stream of blood that spills onto the ground as he desperately tries to get air back into his lungs, staggering before collapsing.
I know that the rest of the time, they are as human as me, but I don't have time for remorse, it's them where we are, and here, we are at home. A cry of pain is heard as two Wolves attack Dorian at the same time and one of them manages to injure his back by sinking its claws into his flesh. He suddenly stands up on his hind legs, ejecting this enemy that I take aim at before firing again, then another while the first shot passes only a few centimeters from him. My Wolf then focuses on this second enemy and quickly gets rid of it. I turn around quickly, I have to stay focused on what is around me, on all these Wolves arriving en masse. I don't understand why they do that, why even though they are the same species, they don't hesitate to kill other Wolves.
Jason faces a large Wolf, she seems different from the others, as if she was the one in charge, as if all the orders came from her. She seems to be probing him, as if she were thinking before attacking him, and suddenly I see her lunge at him. He manages to dodge her but she doesn't let go, she attacks again and again with a rage that surprises me. With the most palpable anger. Why is she so angry with us? Why does she refuse to let us live our lives in peace?
My Wolf defends himself and attacks in turn even if I feel that he doesn't like it. She must have had a special place in his pack, enough for this fight to disturb him, but just like us, he does not give up, on the contrary, while the claws of this Wolf brush against his fur, he quickly turns around to give her a neck hard enough and she starts to stagger. I can hear a crack from where I am, I'm sure it has at least one or two broken ribs. However, she quickly springs back into action as if her rage was stronger than the pain in her body.
Dorian tries to hold off the Wolves coming from behind, but every time he kills one, another takes his place. We are overwhelmed, clearly, and yet none of us are backing down.
Then as I get back into position to help Jason with this unfortunate Wolf, I don't see a wolf coming behind me which hits me, making me fall. Instantly, I drop my weapon, I try to get up as quickly as possible but this Wolf places one of its paws on my leg, making me scream in pain.
It is so heavy that its weight crushes me. I see my Wolves turn towards me panicked at the idea that something could happen to me but before one of them moves, I manage to grab my knife and stick it in the paw as I do so. to move back.
I take the opportunity to crawl to my gun as quickly as I can and turn around to shoot him at point blank range. I would not be a burden to my Wolves, I would fight to the end with them.
I can feel how proud they are of my reaction. They like knowing that I am able to fight for them. That I can defend myself even against such predators. I try to get to my feet but a sharp pain shoots through my leg. However, I don't say anything, I grit my teeth as hard as I can. I drag myself to the wall of the house so I can lean against it.
Another Wolf rushes at me, but this time, Dorian arrives and violently rips out its throat, spraying me with blood in the process. He quickly comes closer to me and gives me a big lick on the face,
- Don't worry my Wolf, it's going to be okay, I said, placing my hand on his head.
He growls slightly before turning around. This Wolf is always facing Jason, she is much stronger than the others.
- I don't know who she is but she's not going to give up, I say when I know full well that Dorian hears me.
He growls much louder this time, he too doesn't like this fight which is starting to drag on. She tries to turn around to look at us, but Jason gives her a big paw in the mouth which seems to destabilize her slightly. Dorian growls once again, this is the moment, the opening he needs to attack. Then Jason rushes at her, making her fall, another Wolf tries to intervene, but Dorian is already covering his rear and takes care of it with disconcerting ease.
Everywhere I look I see bodies, dying wolves, blood. Never before had I witnessed such a battle, never before had I participated in such a bloodbath.
This Wolf growls as Jason gains ground. She is beside herself and he takes advantage of the fact that she is on the ground to press on her with all his weight. He observes her for a second, then two, I know he doesn't want to do that, but as she tries to bite him for the umpteenth time, he plunges his mouth into her neck and tears off a large part of it. which he projects further.
Blood flows freely as I see his body shaking. She tries to get the air into these lungs, but the blood replaces it and little by little, she drowns in her own blood.
I am so taken by this macabre scene that I do not see the Wolf coming behind me. On the other hand, I feel its weight making me fall and my head hitting a stone. My head buzzes as my vision blurs. His breath is almost on the back of my neck. I cling to my weapon knowing that on my stomach I can't do anything and before I can try anything, Jason arrives and rushes at him while Dorian jumps with his fangs out to sink them into his enemy.
I try to get up, but this time I can't. I hear them scream at the same time as my eyes close.
POV Jason
Emma is injured, we have to finish this quickly. Now that my old Luna is dead and that's without counting the others, the survivors will think twice. They know who we are, they know what we are capable of. I wouldn't have killed her, but if I hadn't, she wouldn't have had the slightest hesitation.
Our screams are rising, we must get her to safety. We must protect her, at all costs. Our Wolves circle around it, challenging with their gaze anyone who dares to approach us. There may not be many of us, but I spent weeks canvassing the area, weeks considering all possible scenarios, weeks preparing everything. This is our home, and anyone who ventures onto our land does so to these pedants.
Although we are both injured as well, we are more than a match for those who remain. It's a grunting contest, everyone observing each other judging whether an attack is really worth it. Of course, they have orders, but now only one of these two packs still has someone at its head. After losing its Alpha, my old pack just lost its Luna. The throne is free and soon they will fight for it, although neither of them is worthy of an Alpha.
Some start to look at each other and one of them leaves, quickly followed by the others. Only the Wolves of Dorian's old pack remain. He takes a step in front of me, then another. Just by his posture you can tell he's not joking. He is ready to kill the last ones without the slightest problem, without the slightest qualms.
One of them comes forward, they no longer move as a unit, they have doubts and that is the best thing we could hope for. The poor fool, I don't know what he thinks he can do, but Dorian is going to tear him to pieces.
