Chapter 22 Who Are You Dressed So Scantily For
"You lied to me just now." Christopher stared down coldly at Diane, whose back felt cold as she pressed herself against the wall. He was referring to the moment she said at the beginning that she left with a friend for a chat.
Does this question matter very much? As she stared at Christopher's stony face, Diane was somewhat scared deep down inside. Since she didn't know what to say, she simply buttoned her lip with a timid look in her eyes. Christopher stared at the woman before him-she was rather small and petite compared to him. Then, as his eyes flickered at the hickey on her fair-skinned neck, he felt a surge of inexplicable irritation; he immediately took off his suit jacket and dragged her toward him.
Diane jumped, not knowing what Christopher was trying to do. The next second, she was wrapped in the suit jacket that still had his warmth with it.
"Remember..." As he clutched the suit jacket's collar, he wrapped the suit jacket tightly around her exposed neck and shoulders. "Never lie to me in the future," he said. Then, he grabbed her hand and dragged her toward the elevator.
Since Christopher was much taller than Diane, his suit jacket looked oversized and very funny on her. She trotted after him and asked, "Where are you going? The banquet isn't over yet."
"Home." Christopher didn't say a word more than necessary. He stopped in front of the elevator, causing Diane-who had failed to stop just in time-to bump into him from behind.
Is this guy carved out of stone? His body is so rigid, Diane thought to herself while she massaged her forehead. Just then, Christopher happened to look back and saw the aggrieved look on her face. "Throw this dress away when we go back."
"No." Diane shook her head resolutely. "I spent a fortune on it.”
"Just throw it away as I tell you to. Who are you dressed so scantily for?" Christopher growled between clenched teeth with his eyes ablaze. He had never felt so agitated because of what a woman wore, and this was his first time doing so.
Diane glared at Christopher for a long time before forcing out a reply. She said, "That's too domineering of you, Christopher."
On the other hand, Christopher stared fixedly at her without speaking. As they were locked in a standoff, the elevator door opened. Then, Christopher dragged her into the elevator; once inside, he wrapped his arm around her waist and clasped her to his chest without waiting for Diane to steady herself. "Don't forget that you're already a married woman."
"What's the big deal with that? We're already years past the Middle Ages," Diane retorted without thinking, her eyes alight with animated readiness for an argument.
Is this lady mocking me for being old-fashioned and pedantically minded? This is outrageous! Christopher thought to himself. Suddenly, he lowered his head and bit hard into that unbridled mouth of hers, grinding his teeth on her tender lips. "The Middle Ages are over, but your man is still alive and kicking-you'd better behave yourself. If you like to bare your body, you can do so to your heart's content when we go back."
Diane was rendered speechless. Christopher's warm breath clung to her lips, teasing her until she couldn't help trembling.
Ding! Only when the elevator stopped did Christopher let go of her. As she panted heavily, he dragged her all the way outside and into the car. "Drive home," he ordered.
Since Christopher was in a very surly mood, the driver in the front seat didn't dare to waste any time. He started the car, stepped on the gas, and drove away.
Diane, who sat next to him within the cramped space inside the car, didn't dare to make a sound along the way. She felt that the man beside her was like a movable pack of dynamite that might blow her to pieces before she even realized it.
They reached home in dead silence. As soon as they got out of the car and entered the house, Christopher dragged her into the bedroom. "Clean yourself and take a bath for an hour before you come out. I don't like someone else dirtying my stuff."
Diane was lost for words, but Christopher left immediately after finishing his sentence; it left her gnashing her teeth in hatred over the obnoxious tone of his voice. "You egomaniac." After snorting at him from behind, she took his suit jacket off her, found her clothes, and went to take a bath.
Meanwhile, Christopher had just reached his study when Scott Yellen, his assistant, called him. "May I speak to you, Mr. Wayne?"
"What's the matter?" Christopher's tone was chilly since he was in a bad mood.
Scott felt a chill running down his spine on the other end of the line. After being startled for a moment, he answered, "Mr. Waddington's secretary managed to obtain my phone number from somewhere. She called me just now and asked a lot about you in a roundabout way."
"What did she ask about?" Christopher asked slowly while sitting down in his executive chair.
"She asked about your relationship with Mrs. Wayne, and she also asked if you and Norman Adler bear any grudges against each other."
"Grudges?" Christopher sneered. "Is he worthy of bearing grudges against me?" he asked rhetorically. After falling silent for a while, he continued, "Tell her that I dislike Norman Adler very, very much." "Yes, Mr. Wayne."
As Christopher put his phone away, the hickey on Diane's neck crossed his mind again, causing him to feel somewhat distraught. He spent more than two hours finishing all his work in his study and even held a video conference with the overseas branch office. After the meeting ended, he massaged his aching neck and got up.
He returned to the bedroom and subconsciously took a look at the bed, only to be surprised when he saw no one on it. He walked toward the bathroom with a frown, but as soon as he opened the bathroom door, he was stunned.
He quickly stepped into the bathroom and was filled with anger as he looked at the lady sprawled asleep in the bathtub. After feeling the water temperature with his hand, he realized that the water in the bathtub had cooled thoroughly. Does she think she is too strong to soak in the bath like this?
"Di-" He tried to call her, but he changed his mind after uttering a syllable. He bent down, stretched out his hands, and picked the 'sleeping beauty' up from the bathtub.
Diane was startled by this and moaned, "Hmm..."
Christopher looked at her with deep furrows in his brow. He thought she was waking up, but to his surprise, she raised her arms and hooked them around his neck after letting out that moan. Then, she leaned closer to him in an unguarded manner.
Her dripping wet arms were light and supple, and Christopher shook considerably as they hooked around his neck without warning. After standing for several minutes, he finally came to his senses. While he carried the sleeping lady in his arms, he grabbed a bath towel from the wall, wrapped it around her, and quickly walked back into the bedroom.
Just as he was about to reach the bed, the lady in his arms rubbed her face against his chest, causing him to stop dead in his tracks while an inexplicable surge of nervousness over him; he seemed as though he was afraid of waking her up. When he made sure that she was steadily asleep, he slowly moved again and carried her to the bed. Just as he was about to lay her down, he heard a soft murmur. She murmured, "Stop it, Norman. I want to sleep."
Norman! Christopher's face hardened in an instant. After staring for a few seconds at the innocent and harmless face of the lady in his arms, he instantly loosened his hold on her.
With a thud, Diane fell onto the bed and was startled out of her wits.
"Are you out of your mind?" she scolded immediately when she opened her eyes and saw Christopher. After uttering the sentence, she felt chilly and discovered herself naked. Since she was confused about what had happened, she instinctively covered her breasts and glared at him.
Christopher sat down and leaned toward Diane. She leaned backward instinctively, but he pinched her jaw with his fingertips and said, "Take a good look at who your man is right now, Diane." He pinched her jaw so hard with his fingertips that her jaw hurt. "Hmph." After giving an angry snort, he pulled back his hand, got up, and left without looking back.
Diane looked at Christopher's forbidding figure from behind with a frown, but she still couldn't figure out how she had offended him again. His mood is so unpredictable; he can be in a cheerful mood one moment and sullen the next... Oh, wait-he's never cheerful.
Christopher never came in that night. Diane didn't know where he had gone, nor did she know if he was still in this house. She thought for a while in confusion, but she didn't think much about it. After replaceing her pajamas, she put them on and went to bed.
With that, the weekend passed by uneventfully. When Diane reached her office on Monday, she heard a piece of shocking news.
