Though Jace already knew Sage couldn't promise him a remarriage, it still hurts. Jace felt his prideget hurt. His lips pursed into a thin line.

He let out a bitter smile and said, “I'm not an idiot. How could I force you to remarry me with this? Ican't bulldoze you to such arrangements. I know.” At least Jace was smart enough.

Sage asked patiently, “So, what do you want me to promise you about?”

“I want you to trust me one more time,” said Jace as he looked her in the eyes willfully. “I did notmeet with a lady in my room. Suki West flirted with me at the bar and I thought she was you. I waspretty drunk at that point. I apologized and told the bartender to bill it to Room 77, I guess shemust've gotten my room number from there.

Also, I told her to leave after telling her I'm not interested. You can also ask Yoel if you don't trustme, or check the surveillance cameras.”

Sage finally understood what he meant.

“This was the condition for letting Kane off the hook?” Sage asked.

Jace nodded earnestly and said, “I know you don't trust me at all now. I'm not a nobleman, nor I ama good man. But you can trust m e when I said I have never lied to you ever. Not then, not now, andnot in the future.”

Sage tried to avoid eye contact with him. She was all prepared to be tortured by his request, but shenever thought he only wanted a chance to explain what happened last night.

He was right. He was never once dishonest with her, including the time he told her he didn't loveher, and there was another woman in his mind; including him staying together with Sienna whilethey were married.

She thought maybe the reason why he never lied is that he never cared how she felt about his truth.Be it sadness, heartbreak, or disappointment
