A Relentless Pursuit for Love -
Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Jace was unfazed. He did not think that the enamel plates had anything to do with Sage divorcinghim. Besides, it was he who had asked for the divorce and not her.
Jace and Sage were once again at the center of attention. Neither of them looked like they weregoing to back down. Testing each other's patience, Sage and Jace took tums increasing the price bya hundred thousand dollars each time.
The crowd watched in confusion. They felt like they were watching an argument between two highschool students.
Were they going to continue bidding until a billion dollars?
The auction master was slowly getting exhausted too. When the bid reached five million dollarsSage stopped
Luther asked, “What's wrong? Too tired? Here, let me help you.”
He comforted Sage. “There, there. Don't worry about the final price. I'll pay for it. This is theBennetts’ turf, I will not allow anyone t o bully you.”
Luther was about to raise the sign when Sage stopped him, shook her head, and said, “The platesare only worth this much. There's no point in increasing the price.”
In the end, Jace had won the bid at five million dollars.
The profits from the auction amounted to almost two hundred and thirty million dollars. Of course, this was to the benefit of Timeless Magazine, the organizer of the auction. It increased theirreputation.
"Let's go.”
Sage left the event hall with her assistant while Luther and Yoselyn had to stay back and sort thedonations and the remainder of the items that had been donated for the auction.
Sage had to wait by the roadside as Hunter had gone to bring the car. He had parked the car atquite a distance so Sage had to wait a while.
The night was slightly cold. Wrapping her arms around herself, Sage suddenly felt a weight on hershoulders. She tumed to see Yoel smiling brightly at her. “It's cold out here, huh? Here, you can havethis.”
Yoel was about to take off his coat when someone snatched the coat away from his hands.
Jace put the coat into Yoel's arms, took off his coat, and placed it around Sages shoulders. "Hedrank too much, and his coat reeks o f alcohol. You can have mine.”
“Thanks, but it's okay. Birds of a feather flock together. You don't smell that good yourself.”
Sage shrugged her shoulders and dropped Jace's coat onto the floor.
Glancing to the side, Sage noticed the set of enamel plates in Zayne's hands. Sage’s eyes darkened, and she pressed her lips together.
Jace said bluntly, “Sorry, I like the set of enamel plates too.”
Pulling into a formal smile, Sage said, “Congratulations.”
“Do you like it?" Yoel could not hold back anymore. “If you do like them, I'm sure Jace here is willingto give them to you, right, Jace?”
Confused, Jace looked at Yoel and asked, “When did I say such a thing?”
Yoel was rendered speechless again. Yoel gave up on helping his friend.
Sage simply smiled. “There's really no need for that. One does not take something that someoneelse is fond of. Furthermore, since I have given up on it, it simply implies that I do not have anaffinity for it. I've tried my best, and I don’t have any regrets.”
Hunter pulled up next to the trio. He got out of the car and opened the door for Sage. Indifferently,Sage said, “See you later then.”
Hesitating, she glanced at Jace and added, “Oh, I made a mistake there. I hope that this is the lasttime I see you, Mr. Jace. You are not welcomed in Salem City.”
Getting into the car, Sage left Yoel and Jace behind.
Trying to read between what Sage was implying, Jace frowned. “Is she angry?”
“Dude, you only realize it now?”
Taking a deep breath, Yoel added, “Seeing you like this, I don't even feel sorry for you. You totallydeserve this, my friend. Keep this up and I'm sure Sage would be completely over you. Good luck!”
