After Covertly Conceiving the CEO’s Baby
Chapter 1 Find the Owner
Gwyneth Maynard had been working as the president’s assistant at the Fletcher Group for two years. Her colleagues all agreed that she was a hardworking and honest girl.
Yet, last night, Gwyneth…
Gwyneth cautiously lifted the blanket to take a peek. Her face turned pale when she realized she was naked.
She jumped as vague memories of dragging a man onto the bed by his tie came flooding back.
She turned her head and saw the man still sleeping soundly beside her.
Gwyneth gasped in shock and immediately covered herself with the blanket.
It wasn’t a dream. She had actually slept with… her boss.
Raynard Fletcher was the director and president of the Fletcher Group, her boss. Gwyneth couldn’t believe what she had done…
Panicked, she leaped out of bed and quickly got dressed, despite having lost her virginity just last night.
She had to leave before Raynard woke up.
With trembling legs, she returned to her room. Gwyneth tried to act like nothing had happened.
Janine Hart was putting on makeup when Gwyneth entered.
Janine casually asked, “Why didn’t you come back after helping Mr. Fletcher to his room? You didn’t answer my calls.”
Gwyneth froze in place.
She stammered, “I… I did come back. You were asleep, so I didn’t want to wake you. I went to Mr. Fletcher’s room this morning because he needed something.”
It was a lame excuse, but it seemed to pass.
As Raynard’s assistant, she had to be available at his beck and call, especially during a business trip.
Janine simply said, “Okay,” before returning to applying her false eyelashes.
Gwyneth relaxed as Janine didn’t press the matter further. She hurriedly went into the bathroom to wash her face and do her makeup.
After both women had breakfast, it was almost 8 a.m., and they proceeded to the conference hall.
Gwyneth looked as professional as ever in her black suit.
Feeling her phone vibrate, she took it out to check the message. Her breath caught when she saw that the message was from Raynard.
“Meet me in the break room.”
She could feel his anger through the brief message.
Her heart started pounding frantically.
She thought, “He was quite drunk last night. Maybe… he won’t remember what happened.”
Still, Gwyneth couldn’t be sure. With a racing heart, she made her way to the break room.
Raynard appeared exceptionally dangerous, his eyes dark.
Anyone who met his gaze would be frozen by its chilling intensity.
Gwyneth approached Raynard cautiously, hoping he wouldn’t recall last night’s events. She adopted her most humble tone and said, “Mr. Fletcher, how may I assist you?”
A silver angel pendant was tossed onto the desk.
Gwyneth’s heart nearly stopped when she saw the evidence.
She couldn’t believe she had left something so significant behind.
She risked a glance at Raynard’s face. His lips were pressed into a thin line, and his gaze was piercing.
Gwyneth clenched her fists, wondering if it was too late to plead for forgiveness…
Raynard curtly instructed, “Find the owner of this pendant within 24 hours.”
Gwyneth’s pale face froze.
After the roller-coaster of the previous night, her head was spinning.
In a daze, she looked at the elegant man on the couch and said, “Find… replace the owner?”
She realized, “So, he doesn’t know the pendant belongs to me?”
Gwyneth involuntarily breathed a sigh of relief, then gasped.
How was she supposed to replace the owner within 24 hours when she was the person he was looking for?
Noticing her doubtful tone, Raynard looked at her darkly. “You can’t do it?”
His domineering tone snapped Gwyneth out of her stupor.
She quickly grabbed the pendant and said, “No, I can. Don’t worry, Mr. Fletcher. I’ll be on it.”
She then turned to hurry out of the room.
Yet, she turned back nervously before she could get far. “Shall I bring the person to you when I replace them?”
Raynard’s gaze darkened. “Bring the person to Darron.”
Gwyneth almost stumbled when she saw the dangerous glint in his eyes.
Involving Darron Conner meant that Raynard wanted the person gone from Harbor City forever. Even in the best-case scenario, that person wouldn’t be able to work in the business world again…
