Book 3- Chapter 2

The words of questioning circled around my mouth again and again, but in the end, I swallowed them back.

I didn't dare... I had become timid I was afraid to ask and get an answer I didn't want to know. I was afraid of that result.

Seeming to notice my unusual behavior, Ryker worriedly rubbed my hair: "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Should I take you to the hospital?"

After a long silence, I gently shook my head.

"Take me to see Sage."

Right now, I just wanted to see my best friend Sage Nightingale immediately. Only by her side could I breathe.

Sage was my childhood friend who had grown up with me. She had witnessed everything between Ryker and me, and even moved to this city specifically for me. Every time I had a fight with Ryker, I would run to Sage's house.

Sage would accompany me to drink, binge-watch TV shows, watch movies, and comfort me in countless late nights.

"Lark, at times like this, I feel that my decision to settle here for you was really the right one. If you had no one to rely on when you were sad, I would even hate myself." Sage was not just my friend, my bestie, my childhood playmate, she was also my only family here.

So at this moment, apart from Sage, I had no one else to turn to for help.

Although Ryker had some doubts, he still obediently drove me to the café.

"Have a good chat with Sage. Should I come pick you up later?"

I shook my head frantically: "No need, I'm staying at Sage's place tonight."

After saying this, I jumped out of the car and rushed into the café without looking back!

From a distance, I saw Sage sitting in a corner.

My tears could no longer be held back, flowing down my cheeks uncontrollably, my voice choked with sobs.

"Sage, Sage!"

Seeing me, Sage immediately stood up. The smile that had been blooming on her face instantly sank when she saw my tears:

"Lark, what's wrong? What happened?"

"Don't cry, don't cry, I'm here!"

I grabbed Sage's hand, crying so hard I could barely speak.

"I. Ryker he..."

However, before I could finish my sentence, my gaze fell on Sage's ears.

Sage's left ear wore an earring, while the earring on the other side had vanished.

And her left earring looked so familiar.

Because at this moment, the other one was lying quietly in my bag.

My ears started ringing, and all the surrounding sounds completely disappeared.

For nearly several minutes, I couldn't hear any sound.

I felt as if my heart was being torn apart, bleeding profusely, splattered all over the ground.

Sage looked worried, constantly asking me.

"Lark, what's really wrong with you?"

"Why are you crying like this? Did Ryker bully you?"

"Say something! If he dares to bully you, I'll get revenge for you!"

I stared at her blankly. In the past, every time she said this, I would feel very touched and warm.

However, at this moment, looking at her "indignant" face, I only felt afraid.

I almost couldn't believe that these two people who had accompanied me for ten years, who were more important to me than my life, would betray me together.

A tremendous fear overwhelmed me. I felt as if my whole body had been soaked in ice water, even the temperature in my fingertips was lost.

I don't know how long it took, but I finally found my voice again.
