After the Eight Years of Love I Gave Up -
Chapter 74
Chapter 23
I watched Cassius turn and walk towards his car, watched his lonely figure disappear.
The sun at dusk was suddenly swallowed by the horizon.
The sky turned a pale rose-blue.
As Cassius's car gradually drove away, I seemed to see those seven years of Everly's life from seventeen to twenty-four. Fading away with that car, never to be seen again.
I knew that from this day on, the name Cassius would be just like any other ordinary, common name in this world.
I wouldn't deliberately forget it, but I would never actively think of it again.
"Everly..."
Darius gently embraced me.
I turned back, looked up at him, and smiled lightly: "Let's go, we need to get to the hospital."
On the night Darius proposed, he drank a lot and, holding me, said many, many things.
But what I remember seems to be only the simplest two sentences.
"Everly, we will never have a seven years like that."
"Everly, we will never break up."
At the moment of making a vow, everyone surely believes it to be true.
But when they later break that vow, they wonder how anyone could believe in such things.
But I choose to believe Darius.
Actually, it's believing in myself.
Believing that I deserve to be loved, believing that true feelings will not be betrayed, at least this once.
The day Darius and I got engaged, I received a gift sent from New York.
It was the wedding dress I had once bought.
Restored by the master tailor Cassius had found.
There was also a card in the box.
The handwriting was Cassius's.
It said: "Everly, I will always be waiting for you."
Darius was beside me and also saw the card.
He smiled confidently, kissed me hard on the cheek, "Too bad, I
won't give him the chance."
But that night, the wedding dress disappeared.
And I, I no longer cared about such trivial matters.
