Alpha Nicholas

"Well, I did not see that coming!" Shane practically shouts the moment Will and Sophie close the door to the little side room that they have gone into. I shake my head as a shocked laugh bubbles out of me. "Fuck, I know, it's crazy." I never would have thought that one of us would be mated to her, but I'm seriously happy about it.

We've always gotten on with Sophie. She was our sister's best friend but after... what happened, we all became even more protective of her, and I'm glad that one of us gets to be by her side. I also know that Will has always had a thing for Sophie, but he refused to start something up with her when he could meet his mate and break her heart. I know it's always been hard for him, and I'm glad he's now got her as his mate. Those two will be amazing together.

"I'm happy for him though, I think it'll be good for him." Shane pulls Lily into his side and kisses her on the head as he speaks, and it's then that I realize that in the space of 4 days, 3 out of 4 Alpha brothers have found their mate. There's only Robbie left now, that is crazy! "Let's head to the guard room and see what's going on." He nods and quickly follows Bonnie and me as we walk past all of the cells and ignore the prisoners and their piss-poor attempts at getting us to let them out.

We step inside the guard's room to replace everyone sitting around the table, including Tony and Omega Suzzy as they chat about Will and Sophie, as much as I'm happy for them and would love nothing more than to join in the conversation, we have bigger things that we need to talk about right now. "Ok you bunch of cockle women, let's get down to business. No offense Suzzy." She lets out a laugh before tapping my arm as she heads towards the door. "Call if you need anything, Alpha." The woman is a goddam angel and I'm lucky enough to consider her a very good friend. "Ryan, walk Suzzy back to the pack house and then come back down." He nods and then runs after her.

"I don't need a bodyguard, Ryan. Now, go back to your seat, I'll be just fine." We all smile and laugh as they continue to argue until their voice grows too distant for us to understand them. "That bloody woman will give me a heart attack one day," Robbie grunts. "You and me both brother." I agree. Suzzy is a doll but she is also a stubborn old goat and a nightmare when you want to protect her. I don't know how many times I've had to order her to accept protection in my Alpha tone.

"So, shall we get started? Ryan will only be a few minutes." Tony asks, more than eager to get things moving, and I'm right there with him. "Before we start Nick. I get why Bonnie and Sophie are here, but why is Lilly? And before Shane gets his wolf in a twist, I'm not asking to be a prick or anything, I just want to know if something is going on that we should know about." It's a good question and one that I've been thinking about myself. Instead of asking him, I give Shane a nod and watch as he takes a deep breath. "There is a reason for her being here, and it's pretty big and insanely fucked up. It's also her story to tell, so I'm not going to step on her toes." OK, now my interest has peaked. "Lily, are you ok?" I feel Bonnie tense up beside me as she takes a step forward, I was just about to ask her if she knew what was going on, but the look on her face tells me that she doesn't and that in itself is worrying. From what I've learned so far, Lily and Bonnie have been best friends all their lives and have shared everything, so if Lily has kept something from her, then it has to be pretty big.

Before Lily can speak, a roar comes from the cells that have us all running out of the guard room only to replace Rowan trying to break the bars to his cell while roaring like a madman. Fucking prick! "What the fuck are you doing?" I roar as I storm towards his cell. "HE THINKS THAT HE CAN HAVE MY MATE! SHE THINKS THAT SHE CAN JUST WALK AWAY FROM ME! NO ONE WALKS AWAY FROM ME! I WANT TO SEE HER AND I WANT TO SEE HER NOW!"

He is so angry that he is frothing at the mouth and if I didn't know how much of a prick he was, I would consider him to be having a mental break-down, but we all know he's not, he thinks he's above everyone and, even though he didn't want Sophie, he can't stand the fact that she now has Will and that he wants her. He probably thinks that he's missing out on something and can't handle that fact.

Laughter comes from behind me and I watch as Sophie walks over to me with the biggest smile on her face, while Will walks behind her staying silent but still showing his full support. "You don't want me, Rowan so why are you pretending different?" Her voice is calm, confident, and strong, and I feel so proud of her.

"It's Future Beta Rowan, you'd do well to remember that and treat me with respect mate!" At his words, everyone starts laughing. No one calls a future Beta by that title, he's just being a prick and trying to act above Sophie, but I can already tell that she won't let it happen. "I'm not your mate, I never was. You made sure of that, and I'm so fucking grateful for it, because if you hadn't rejected me then I wouldn't have met my true mate!"

Her words get him all worked up again, and he starts trying to break the bars once more. "Why don't you just give that a rest? Even if you could break those bars, do you really think that you're getting out of here?" He stops behaving like a physio and suddenly stares at Sophie like she hung the stars, but it's clear that it's all fake. "I just hate the thought of you being with someone else, baby. I messed up, but I want you, I need you!" Oh, he's trying his best I'll give him that but it won't last long.

"And I would need a brain transplant to even consider believing you!" Shane coughs to try and cover his laugh, but Will doesn't even attempt to cover his. "What the fuck are you laughing at prick? You may think you're big and clever because you stole my mate, but you're not, and you will pay for this!"

"The only person paying for anything here is you and I'm going to enjoy every single second of it." Will goes to take a step around Sophie, but she stops him. "He's not worth it, Will. Let's just leave him to sit on his own while he waits for his death to come." Will looks down at her with the biggest smile then leans down and kisses her like he owns her.

It's clear it's all a show just to piss off Rowan even more, and it works as he starts screaming like a madman while we all laugh and start heading back for the guard room already bored of his antics. "You two need to get a room!" Robbie shouts adding fuel to the fire. "Oh, we will be later, brother. Don't you worry about that!" Sophie's cheeks go bright red but still, she laughs along with the rest of us as we ignore prick head and step back inside the guard room.

"That guy is seriously cooked," Shane grunts as he shuts the door behind us to help draw out some of the noise, and instantly I feel the air around us thicken and remember the conversation we were having right before he kicked off. I look at Lilly to replace her nervously twisting her fingers while staring at Bonnie who has also noticed it. She steps closer to Bonine and takes a deep breath while everyone else remains quiet.

"About earlier... Bonnie... I'm sorry I've never told you, bonbon. I couldn't... he said he'd... and you... and I..." Suddenly Lily has tears streaming down her face as she breaks down. Bonnie jumps forward and pulls her into a hug as she gently rubs her back. "Hey, shh it's ok, Lil. Whatever it is, we will figure it out".

She slowly moves her until she reaches the table and sits her in a chair before sitting next to her. Shane walks up behind her chair and places his hands on her shoulders offering her some support, but she looks completely broken. It's a sight that is hard for me to witness, so I can't imagine how he's feeling right now.

I give Lily a moment to calm herself down before I pull out a chair and sit next to Bonnie ready to hear what's going on. "Lily, would you like everyone to leave the room to have some privacy to discuss this?" She looks up at me and the sight is gutting. I may not have known her long, but she is my brother's mate and honestly a sweet girl and I don't like seeing her like this. "No, it's fine, Alpha Nicholas." I give her a smile and gentle nod hoping to show her some support, but for some reason, I have a feeling that Bonnie is going to be the one needing support after this conversation.

Lily gives Bonnie a little smile as she finally calms down her tears and sits up a little straighter. "Before I tell you what I'm about to, I want you to know that I wanted to tell you from the moment I found out, but he wouldn't let me, he... he threatened to hurt you if I told you and... and I know that he would do it and I couldn't risk it." I watch as Bonnie's whole body suddenly stiffens as she takes both of Lily's hands in hers.

"What did my dad do?" Her words throw me, but then I look at Shane, and he doesn't seem surprised by what Bonnie has asked and that instantly has me on edge. "He... he was.... Oh, goddess, this is so hard!" She stops talking and takes in some deep breaths as tears once again stream down her face while Bonnie remains quiet and calm as she continues to hold Lily's hands, not once rushing her friend. "He... Lily, your dad was my first mate!" Oh fuck no!
