Alpha´s curvy bullied human mate
Chapter 43: Creatures of the Night

Penelope

I felt as if I had no choice but to follow this path that seemed to have been laid out for me. Once again, I felt the forces of destiny, they had taken me out of the herd against my will... and now they wanted me to return against my will.

I spent hours depressed, begging to be allowed to go to work and say goodbye. I didn't want to leave Jack like that. Marianne, Andrew, and the other girls had all been such an important part of my life that I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye.

Of course, the restaurant was packed. Luke was watching me near the woods. My house was practically sealed up, everything put away, and some things moved out.

"We're going to miss you so much, Penny! I'm sure it's just a security measure, right? Everything will be back to the way it was soon," my friend asked me.

"That's right, dear... we'll see each other again, I'm sure. We'll work here, complain about the uniforms, and everything will be like it never happened," I said, stroking her hair, even though part of me knew it was a lie. "Where will you go?"

"I'm going to live with my father and brothers."

"Can I come visit you?" she asked me with teary eyes, and it broke my heart.

"Sure! I'll let you know when everything's set up."

"How come we haven't met your father or your brothers? You always mention them, but we know absolutely nothing about them," she said questioningly, and I didn't know what to say.

"I promise we'll see each other again..." I said, hugging her and fighting the urge to cry.

"We're going to miss you so much, Penny! Please take care of yourself," Andrew said as he hugged me.

"Thank you, Penny... and thank you for talking to everyone and calming them down. I'm sorry you have to leave, but I understand. It's better to be safe, and I'm sure your family knows that" Jack said, smiling at me. When I left, it was late. I went to the place where Luke was waiting for me. I imagined that suddenly I would be accompanied by a bunch of werewolves.

But there was only silence. I walked a little further into the woods... and I felt a cold shiver run down my spine to the back of my neck.

"Luke, are you there?" I asked, but I got no answer. Suddenly I saw someone on the ground. As I got closer, I realized who it was.

"Luke! Luk-" I started to scream as I felt someone grab me from behind and cover my mouth. I lost consciousness.

...

I didn't even know what time it was, or where I was. I seemed to be in a warehouse that looked abandoned. My head hurt and I felt dizzy. I blinked rapidly as my eyes adjusted to the dim light. 'What the hell?' I thought to myself as I saw that I was in what appeared to be a cage as if I were an animal.

Now I was one of the missing girls! Nate said he would investigate it, but surely it was another one of his lies.

There were boxes, gas cans, water, and other things. I saw several cages, but only one was occupied - a young girl with a wild appearance was trying to open the lock of her cage, without success. When she saw that I was awake, she stared at me, I could see that she was a rogue. I immediately backed away.

"You're the human they talk so much about..." she said, looking me up and down as if searching for something special. I guess she didn't replace anything. She came closer to the bars and I saw that she had short hair. She was very thin and small. "Do you smell like a werewolf? Did you mate with a werewolf?" she asked in surprise. The question seemed too intimate, and I felt myself shaking.

"Did they abuse you? I have seen them take men and women away... and then... they disappear," she said. Now I felt even more terrified.

"You are a rogue?"

"That's right."

"I thought rogues were working with them... you know, the Alphas who were disappearing people? Why are you locked up?"

"You know a lot for a human. But... they don't just want the humans, they want their territories. And we don't work with them, they use us and our needs," she said very seriously, and there was a logic to what she said. I was sure that Marco just took advantage of everyone.

"I'm sure of that... and now we are lost..." I said, and she nods.

"I have to run and warn my people, we have to get away from here so they don't take us. They will take advantage of us... kill us or sell us..." she said. I was shocked that every time I heard something related to Marco, it was even worse. Selling people? What the hell?

"And how will you get out of here?"

She shows me a window upstairs. "The door is secured, and there are men at the entrance. There's also a subway tunnel that leads to the middle of the forest, so that window is my only chance." The girl looked small, and could probably get through. I could already see the lock on her cage, and I thought it might open.

"Wolfsbane... I can't touch it. But you can..." she said. Just as I was about to raise my hand, we heard a noise. Two terrifying men came in through the door.

"So, the human woke up. you were very sleepy... little one," one of them said. In seconds I had him in front of my cage and I shivered. His skin was pale and he was very fast. In my head, there was only one word: Vampire. I'd never seen one, but I remembered the stories.

"I still don't know why werewolves are so interested in you... something about you being the mate of someone important. The mate of an Alpha! Who would have thought, an ugly girl like you..." he said, looking at me with disdain. He was blonde, and if he wasn't so scary, he would look attractive. The other man was tall and paid no attention.

"Werewolves dislike humans quite a bit, but humans are very important to us... you know?" he hissed.

"I don't suppose any of them would mind if we gave you a little nibble... you look quite juicy actually," the vampire said, sticking a finger into my cage to reach me while he grinned mischievously. "Leave her alone, they want her in one piece... and I know how you are, you don't know how to control yourself with your food," the other one said, and I panicked. The blonde clicked his tongue. "That's a shame..." the vampire said and walked away. He gave the other girl a disgusted look and kicked her cage, rattling the whole room.

"How much longer do we have to wait for these filthy werewolves? The smell is disgusting! I want to attack them," the blonde spit. I thought of my brother and the other warriors... I prayed they were alive, no doubt they were attacked by these monsters.

"You know what our goal is, Duncan. The human needs to be transported. Behave," the other vampire said, not even looking at us. Then there was only silence. The rogue was terrified.

"Did you hear a howl?" said the serious one, I couldn't hear anything, but they looked tense.

"Let's go see what's going on..." said Duncan. When they left, I immediately went back to the rogue's cage.

"You have to get out and let your people know!" I said, making every effort to get to her lock.

I suddenly fell over as the cage made a turn, but now I was closer. I hurt my hand but managed to open it. In a second the girl was outside.

"I can't go back to the town..." she said, giving me an apologetic look as she climbed into the window.

"I know... but if you could spread the word that everyone has to flee, it would help a lot."

"I promise..." she said. Just as she was about to leave, she turned to look at me.

"I thought we couldn't have a human mate, but no doubt... you are a Luna... you chose to save others instead of asking for help for yourself," she said, and I was surprised. "Run away from here!"

"I will... and I will keep my promise, Luna," she said and disappeared from the window.

I hugged my knees and thought that perhaps Nate was right, I didn't want to be in the pack, but no doubt the danger was tremendous.

Maybe I should have fled to a distant city the moment I knew Nate was after me, the moment Marco approached me.

But I was foolish and deluded enough to think that maybe Nate and I could have been a real couple. Maybe fate would win, no matter what we did.

And yet all I wanted was to see his face again, his blue eyes, and his beautiful lips.

I would have given anything to see Nathaniel Connor one more time, even if it was the last time.
