Chapter 45: I swear it

My first thought was that she left us. I'd admit that.

Of course, I didn't believe she would hurt her brother, or that the twins would just let her go, but the fear inside me was so unreal that I could think of nothing else.

"Michael, help! Help! Roger, stay alert for wolves! We're in an emergency!" I shouted through the mind link like a desperate man.

If it was bad enough before, suffering for her... Now I felt like my heart had been ripped out all at once. It was the most desperate feeling I had ever experienced in my life, more than seeing her with another man, more than her words and her doubts.

I tried to trace her scent, but it was gone. But I picked up other scents-vampire, werewolf, rogue, and death. I began to see several of my warriors wounded, some already dead. I desperately tried to help them. None of this should have happened.

"Luke... Luke! Wake up!" I tried to move the boy. I could see that he had a wound on one arm. His heart was beating weakly, and I smelled a faint odor of wolfsbane. They must have poisoned him, but he was still alive.

"Alpha... Shit!" Michael exclaimed as I saw him appear, followed by several warriors and Luther, who saw his brother in trouble. They all went to take care of Luke.

"What happened?" Michael asked, holding his son in his arms.

"Vampires. And bullets with wolfsbane." It had to be Marco, no doubt about it, he went too far.

"I can track the Alpha!" a warrior volunteered. I began the search with a couple of warriors and Michael, while Luther stayed with his brother and tended to the wounded.

Suddenly, a figure moved quickly between us, so fast that for a moment I thought he was right in front of us. When I heard him speak to me, I realized he hadn't even given us time to attack.

"Alpha Nathaniel! Sorry to surprise you, but I heard your howl and thought you were in trouble," Jeremiah said in his immaculate black suit as if he hadn't just been running at the speed of light. "Jeremiah, my partner has been kidnapped," I said, as everyone looked at him in horror.

"Warriors. This is Jeremiah, a friend of Alpha Asher, an ally." I explained.

"I will do everything in my power to capture these men and bring back your Luna," he said.

I had expected my people to object to this vampire, but his help was welcomed. With him joining the search, we made our way to a path in the forest where Penelope's scent began to grow stronger.

"Mate's nearby, I can feel it!" Hunter exclaimed, wanting to attack immediately and run wild to meet her.

"There's something here," Jeremiah said, signaling us to stop and stand still.

Now I could feel them. The vampires felt like an icy breeze, and slowly my instincts adjusted to them. I sensed one to my right, and one in front of me, and immediately attacked them.

The hunter lashed out and bit right into their necks. His body felt as hard as an ice block. But after that first impression, we realized they were vulnerable.

When I returned to my human form, I saw my warriors still standing in place, trying to get used to this new attack.

"Okay, Moonstone Swarm. These are relatively young vampires. But we also have the Alpha marks, who are slightly older, though not as old as me. You're going to attack in groups, not individually. Be sure to attack the neck and heart," Jeremiah explained, as Michael nodded and relayed the orders to his group.

"Who are these vampires, and what do they want with the werewolves and this town?" I asked him as we walked.

"I hope I'm wrong, Mr. Wolf, but I think they want humans... for the blood," he said, looking sideways at me. I felt a shiver run through my body.

Goddesses... vampires, rogues, and wolves from other packs. My lovely mate had met the worst possible scenario... and here I was thinking she had left me!

I swore to myself, to do everything in my power to make sure she was happy and never afraid to be anywhere.

"But I'm sorry to tell you that there is one more thing," continued Jeremiah. "There's a group of vampires who have kidnapped people, and I've been tracking them for a long time. I'm on the trail, looking for someone. That's why I'm working with Alpha Asher. He's helped me a lot. I just want to dismantle this organization." "They kidnap humans?" I asked.

"Not just kidnapping, but trafficking. Humans... and other creatures..." he said cryptically, not explaining further who he was looking for, or his relationship to these people. But it was clear to me that we were all on the same side. "Alpha, look. The farm," Michael whispered to me. Of course, we had known all this was suspicious for a long time, but there was no doubt now. The men immediately appeared and turned into wolves when we saw the farm in the distance. "Crimson Fangs," I said before transforming and seeing Marco running away in the distance.

"I'd love to kill that asshole, but we have to replace our mate first! Mate always comes first," the hunter said, attacking the wolves coming at us.

I let out a roar that could be heard throughout the forest, and charged at my enemies.

Hunter couldn't think, all he wanted was to keep his mate with him... and all these wolves stood in his way. I also saw the vampires trying to run away when they saw the carnage.

"What the hell is going on here? Who is this guy with all this power?" I heard one scream and went after him and ripped his head off. Blood flowed all over the forest, but I knew it wasn't over.

"In the barn!" Michael said, and we walked over.

"Mate's here! But I can't replace her scent!" Hunter said in desperation. My men had gone ahead of me into the farmhouse and barn. The other werewolves were fleeing, not realizing they would die there.

I took human form and approached them naked. My men were fighting, the others were checking their surroundings, while I approached the strongest.

I snapped the neck of one werewolf, and another tried to shoot me with a poisoned bullet. I broke his hand with a punch, making him wince in pain.

"Where is she, where is she?!" Hunter roared desperately in my head.

The place reeked of gasoline and other werewolves, I didn't know if she would be here, or if this was all a trap.

"You're going to tell me where the human girl you captured is," I said as I pushed him to the ground.

"I... there are a lot of humans passing through here and..." he replied as I put my foot on his injured hand, and heard him howl in pain.

"You know exactly who I'm talking about," I replied and saw him shaking.

"She's not here! We don't know where she is! She's gone! I swear!" he replied as I grabbed him by the collar and picked him up, the others looking at me.

"Check the house and the surrounding area," I replied. My men began to do as I ordered, and I could see the vampire scrutinizing for evidence, documents, and data.

"You're the Alpha! The very powerful one they were talking about!" the man said, and I smiled.

"Yes, you have the honor of meeting me at the end of your life and witnessing all my power," I said as I pressed my hand to his neck, killing him instantly. Suddenly, I heard a pained voice.

"Nate?" My mate asked and I saw her looking at my bloodied body in horror. Her father was carrying her down the stairs. She had been hiding upstairs.

"Penelope!" I said in disbelief. The Goddess did give me another chance and I wasn't about to waste it! I walked towards her, and she continued to stare at me as if I was a monster.

Suddenly a man appeared behind her, a man I knew very well, who was now stunned to see me and everything around me. The bartender seemed to stir as well, and as I approached him, the boy fell to the ground.

"What are you doing, hiding here with her? Why are you with her? Answer me!" I shouted in agitation. The boy was so frightened that he couldn't seem to say a word.

"Nathaniel let him go! He's my friend, he's here to help me! He pulled me out of the cage and saved me. We were just about to run away when you came." She said.

I couldn't believe it. The thought of someone else coming to her rescue instead of me made me sad. I was supposed to be the most powerful Alpha, and yet a mere human came to save my mate.

I wanted to pounce on that stupid bartender right now and end his life.
