Chapter 77: Looking for a safe place

"We've got to get out of sight!", shouted Luther.

"They're taking her! Follow them!" I heard loud voices that little by little were getting lost.

I felt the adrenaline pounding in my veins, I had spent the worst hours of my life, I was afraid, lost and in deep pain of being separated from my mate. The last image I had of him was breaking my heart, I didn't even want to remember it. "Please stop, I can't take it anymore, I'm just a human damn it!" I screamed in desperation.

I had already lost count of how long we had been running. We had left Moonstone territory quite some time ago, passing streams and over hills, so that they can't follow our scent.

My brothers had carried me for a while, I was bouncing, as I saw the world upside down, speeding by. Then I had run myself, legs aching, trying to keep up with these savages. And with my scream, they seemed to think like humans again and not like wolves on the run.

"Are you all right?" I ask them seeing that they have some scratches, and their faces are red from exertion.

"We're fine Penny... we're really worried about you," Luther says, and they come over to me.

"What happened?" I ask and they explain absolutely everything. The initial plan, use Andrew as bait, Naomi, and Robert.

I told them about what I saw, about Erica, Regina, and the attack on my house. Two parts of a story as cruel as it is terrifying. All the people I love are in danger, wounded... or I don't know of their fates.

"Damn!" cries Luther in despair, kicking leaves as I sob.

"I'd like to go back and kill them right there," says Luke charged with hatred.

"We can only do what our Alpha told us... his last request" says Luther.

"But..." I say.

"I know you want to go back to him, Penny... and that the bond it's strong. But it would be suicide. The pack is under attack. We had a plan, and we've been beaten to death. Nate doesn't have the power right now, he's badly wounded and can't protect you, so he gave us a command, and we have to obey" Luther says.

"We need you to rest and regain strength... he always said that there was an emergency point, where we would meet again if something happened." The idea that I can see him again excites me.

I'm not at all surprised when we approach the treehouse in the morning. And when we were almost there, we heard a noise.

"My girl! Boys!" He says, struggling to walk, and I run into his arms. I cry with happiness, it's so good to have him back. "Pumpkin... are you okay? I was afraid they were going after you."

"I'm fine, dad... you..., you're hurt!"

With a lot of effort, we all climbed into the tree house. My brothers eat and sleep and I take care of my father while I update him.

The idea of leaving overwhelmed me, I was already several hours away without my mate and I felt like it was weighing on my chest, how much more could I take? And him? What would become of him?

That day we ate, made plans and rested, although it couldn't be said that any of us found peace. Suddenly one of the twins went down and came back terrified.

"They won't go," my father said, and I stayed frozen. Naomi extended her hand to me and cried, they didn't even give me a chance to say goodbye to her or Andrew.

"Go directly to Belle Springs, without stops, if you see rogues, kill them, leave no witnesses. Here are some masks that Nate had left, and a protector" says my father as he hands them to my brothers, the protector seems to be something like a bulletproof shield.

"Stay there, I'm sure Alpha Asher will go to town, tell him what has happened. Defend your sister with everything you have," says my father, while my brothers are already prepared.

"Dad! But... what about you? What will happen to you?" I asked anxiously.

He was much better, but still...not strong enough to take on our enemies. He smiles at me and kisses my forehead.

Belle Spring has decided to fight, and I was proud.
