Flicka was in control. She could salvage this. Claudia retaining her backbone even when no one was nearby to help her waddle around had been unexpected, but Flicka wasn't immune to miscalculations. Of course she could make a mistake here and there. But really, Claudia acting brave and swaggering around when the whole campus was watching was one thing. After all, those who wanted brownie points with Evan would come to her rescue like she was some fragile damsel in distress, so of course the half-breed had gone all-out when they'd last fought. This time was supposed to have been different. There was no one around in the greenhouse to back the half-breed up, just her and Flicka. How dare the b***h slap her! That dirty, ugly, miserable little... This was unacceptable. The w***e had gotten too full of herself. Flicka was going to take care of this once and for all, going straight over Claudia's head to the Alpha. Evan had been taken in by exotic wiles and batting eyelashes, but not for long. He would see that Claudia was barely good enough to keep as a sidepiece. Luna? In her dreams! "Alpha Evan had a meeting with my family early this morning before he left. Will he return soon?"

The Delta standing guard outside Evan's temporary room saluted and shook his head, mindful of Flicka's position and her lineage. Smart guy. Her ego blossomed a little more.

"Well, I'm sure he's expecting a report from us as soon as he returns." Somewhat truth. The Glilies were responsible for a number of things after all, and since they had arrived on base a few hours ago, no one would claim it was a malicious lie. And Evan had just spoken with them in a confidential meeting; no one else could now for sure what they had talked about. She could get away with this. "Now, I'm only telling you this at all because it saves me the effort of talking around it. Not a word to anyone else, understand? But this morning, Alpha Evan... was speaking about selecting his Luna this morning when he came to us."

She gave the Delta a mysterious smile. Let him glean what he wanted to. Her words might be misleading, but they weren't a lie, still.

"A Luna?" the man exclaimed. "He asked you to become his Luna?"

"First of all, I didn't say exactly that... and I hope you don't go letting the cat out of the bag about anything before Alpha Evan announces things publicly. I told you no one else can know, didn't I?"

He swallowed. "My apologies, Flicka. Um... I'll be sure not to inform anyone of what you told me."

"Good. Now, I'm sure you're expecting Alpha Evan back soon. Around when?"

"There's no telling, unfortunately. We don't use signal flares at a distance anymore so the enemy can't pinpoint a squadron's location and intercept them on the way back."

"What! There's no communication!"

"Ah, your family just arrived so it makes sense you don't know. Cell phones are out of the question along with any internet capability, but the last two days, radio communication is at a minimum too except for emergencies. The enemy replaces which frequencies we hop to faster and faster, so until we figure out a solid code to speak in or the fighting ends..."

"Never mind. I'm not interested. Let me in and I'll wait for him."

"Unfortunately, I can't let you in..."

"Excuse me?"

"Please understand. We're maintaining the utmost security. We're only to allow Alpha Evan and Claudia into his quarters."

And Claudia! She almost choked. Claudia could go in and out of Evan's room at will? That f*****g slut!

"Fine. I'll stay in that room down the hallway. It's vacant right now, isn't it?"

"That's been set aside for the Lassiter family... They're moving into this hallway since it's been fully furnished now-"

"Great. Fully furnished means I can stay there to wait for Alpha Evan. Tell him I'm here and that it's... word about his potential Luna selection. I'll be in that room on the corner."

She flounced off, not waiting for answer. The Delta had better obey, or she would teach him a lesson later.

***

It never occurred to her that her 'better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission' strategy might fail. She was a Glily. Not only that, she was the only heiress of the Glilies, and she had been raised to be Alpha Evan's future mate. Sure, there had been those unfortunate years from her childhood to adolescence where he had been exiled from the pack, given up for dead, but even then her parents had prepared her to seduce Alpha Adrain, Evan's uncle.

The age gap hadn't mattered. She was born to be a Luna. And no matter what, whether that Alpha who got her there was twenty years older or twenty years younger, s he would get what she wanted. Alpha Evan needed a mate, and he had failed to replace his fated one. He ought to give up the search; she was probably already dead if she hadn't turned up yet despite his mad search. That meant Flicka was his best option. Practically the only option. Who else could compete with her? Who else was as beautiful, as intelligent, as cultured, as charming? Flicka Glily would become Luna of the entire Scarlet pack, without a doubt.

She just had to bring him back to his senses. And if not... Well. There was a plan for that, too. "What's this about, Flicka."

She sat on the edge of the bed, smiling coyly. She had taken off her jacket to reveal a slim thigh-high dress right before Evan entered. The black stockings she wore ended right below the hem, showing off her figure. She had always had a spectacular body. If Evan needed a reminder of what standards he should aspire to, she was happy to remind him. "Didn't that Delta tell you? It's about your Luna."

"You made him think you were talking about yourself," he said flatly. "I don't have time for games. Don't even think about spreading rumors around the base. If I hear one word about you becoming my mate, I'll know where it came from. Don't test me." She flinched. What was he so upset about? He should be glad he was saving face, and that she would have gladly arranged it for him. Didn't he understand what everyone would say if they knew the truth, that he was blinded by half-breed cunt and had even said he would make Claudia the former slave his Luna? Of course, he hadn't meant it, and in the future when he looked back on this embarrassing episode, he would be grateful Flicka stopped him from doing something so insane and degrading. She just had to make him see that.

"Evan... It's me. Flicka. We've known each other since we were babies, you know that, right?"

"What does that have to do with anything."

"I've been raised knowing how to do everything I'll ever need to. I'm going to inherit the Glily family's - everything. I know how to run businesses. I'm good at it. And I have all sorts of connections in our sector that will be perfect for getting back on our feet when it's time to rebuild the city. Imagine how much money will go into repairing all the damages! But you won't have to worry about a thing. We can take care of it. I can take care of it."

"You should be. You and all the other families who are specifically in charge of the money flow in case of situations like this."

"Evan... I'm saying there doesn't need to be a division. You can be in charge of that flow, personally. Aren't you too hands-off? Don't you want to start running your empire instead of building it? You own everything. You own everyone." "What's your point-"

"You can even own me," Flicka purred, and she stood with a sultry sway of her hips. In one smooth motion, she pulled down the straps of her dress and let it slide down her body. She had unzipped herself and kept her back turned to surprise him, but now was the time if ever to show her hand... and the rest of herself.

She hadn't put on a bra, and in the chill, her n*****s stood at attention, tight and perky. No man could resist this. Evan would be jumping on her in a second. She let her lips part as she gave him a seductive glance, fingers still pulling down her dress with tantalizing touches-

"Get your clothes on and get out of here. I don't have time for you."

She froze. "Evan...?"

But it was too late. He only gave her a disgusted, annoyed glance before exiting the room, even leaving the door wide open. She hastily pulled her dress back up before any passersby could catch a glimpse of her bare body. What the hell! What had that been about!

Shock turned to seething fury a moment later when she at last understood.

So... Evan was completely deluded. He really was going to make that half-breed his mate and disgrace the entire pack. Matthen had been right to propose the coup.

Fine. This was all the proof the Glilies needed to settle this. Flicka stomped out of the room and fled the dormitories.
