Claudia

Evan and I rush down to the dinner party, and he's immediately greeted by the Alpha and Luna. The Alpha smiles at him, "Alpha Evan, it's an honor to meet you. I'm Alpha Holden and this is my mate, Luna Delores." She holds her hand out and says, "It's an honor to meet you, Alpha Evan. We've heard great things about you. In fact, we thought it would only be right to introduce you to our daughter, Christine."

A young girl about my age steps forward. Her outfit is slutty and desperate. It's obvious she's trying to catch his attention and all of them have been so quick to speak that they didn't even give Evan an opportunity to introduce me.

I can hear her thoughts as they're too loud for me to ignore, "Well, well, well, he's much more handsome than what I imagined! If he wants the Silver Howlers pack on his side, then he'll drop that sorry half-breed excuse of a mate for a real woman."

So, she did know about me. My wolf, Cassiel, is angry from her thoughts and forces a growl to slip from my lips. Evan looks back at me, startled and puzzled from my growl. He takes a step toward me and grabs my hand as he says, "It's a pleasure to meet all of you. This is my mate and my Luna, Claudia."

I force the best smile I can as I say, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Luna Dolores' thoughts are also too loud to ignore, like mother like daughter, I guess. I almost wince from how loud her thoughts are, "I can't believe this girl is a Luna! She looks so small and fragile like a child. We just need to get her out of the way and my daughter could be a proper Luna for the Scarlet pack."

I wanted to scoff at the thought of this girl being a Luna. The desperation coming off her isn't the way a Luna should be. A Luna should be kind, confident, and respectable and Christine seems stuck up, desperate, and by the way she dresses no man or woman would respect her.

Evan holds on to my hand as he leads us to a place to sit. Dolores and Christine's thoughts anger me and my wolf, but we remain calm and try to focus on Evan.

During the whole dinner he kept one hand on me, he knew I was tense and was trying to calm me down in the best way that he could. He and I both knew that this alliance would be beneficial.

The Silver Howlers pack is the next largest pack in the country aside from ours. When they heard how big we started getting they started to combine and take over smaller packs in the area. Because they didn't go on a rampage taking over other packs and killing lots of people the members, they have been extremely loyal to them.

And although our pack members are loyal to us now, it took a long time for us to change our reputation. If the Silver Howlers pack ever decided to be against us, who knows how much bloodshed would occur from both sides.

It felt like the dinner lasted for hours and the whole time Christine was making googly eyes at Evan and even tried playing footsy with him. Unfortunately for her, she was playing footsy with me and one quick kick to the shin was enough to get her to stop doing that. Finally, Evan and I were able to go back to our room. Once we were behind closed doors Evan looks at me and asks, "What is going on with you, Claudia? You know how important this trip is, but you were practically glaring at the Alpha's daughter the entire time!" I scoff, "Did you see the way she was looking at you?! Did you notice the way that they all pretended that I didn't exist?"

He shakes his head, "I noticed, but did you notice how I always tried to pull you into the conversation? How I never let them push you out."

I press my lips together and look to the floor. He's right, he did nothing wrong. I'm overreacting. I look back up at him to see that he has an amused smile. He shakes his head and says, "It's crazy, Claudia. After five years together, you still got jealous over a girl that means absolutely nothing to me. No one can replace my Cinderella."

My cheeks burn as I'm embarrassed from my jealousy, but I'm happy to have him. I'm happy that we have had these five years together. He walks over to me and hungrily kisses me and picks me up, carrying me to the bed.

I can't do anything but kiss him back with just as much hunger and passion that he has for me. But suddenly he stops. His whole body freezes as he is hovering over me.

My eyebrows furrow and I ask, "Evan, what's wrong?"

It takes a moment for him to respond, and I try to listen into his mind, which I wouldn't normally do, but the way he is acting has me fearful. But his mind is dark and hard to pick through.

It's been years since his mind was this dark and it worries me. I say his name, panicked, "Evan!"

His eyes focus back on me, and he pushes himself off me and says, "We need to go, now."

"What's going on?" I question as he rushes to the closet and grabs our suitcase. He licks his lips and says, "Just... trust me right now, Claudia. I'll explain on the train, we need to go."

"What about the Silver Howlers pack? Won't they be angry?"

He shakes his head, "This is more important."

Evan grabs my hand, "Let's go."

We rush down the stairs and the first person Evan sees he says, "Tell Alpha Holden that I'm sorry for how fast we had to leave. We have an emergency back home and when we're available I will call again." The person responds with a simple, "Yes Alpha."

Evan gets us into a car and speeds toward the train station. There is only one other time that he has driven this fast, and it was right before we got together. I stare at him with wide eyes, terrified that he will cause us to crash. But I trust in him regardless. I know he wouldn't do this unless it was for a good reason.

We get to the train station and once in our cabin he grumbles, "Stay here."

Before I can respond he rushes off. I sit down feeling dumbfounded and I check my phone, but I see no messages. What could be going on that is so urgent?

I want to call Raf, but I refrain. Whatever is happening, I'm sure Evan will tell me when he comes back.

It doesn't take long for him to return to our room and the train starts moving. I'm surprised how fast is left the station. Normally we're waiting for at least half an hour for everyone to board.

Evan paces in front of me and I say, "Evan, what's going on? You're making me nervous."

He breathes out and says, "Beta Collins mind linked me. We've been attacked by rogues. It's a bad attack... they've never seen so many rogues at once before."

He presses his lips together. There's more that he's not telling me. I say, "Okay, what else, Evan?"

He huffs, "Peelle, Osborn, Laila, and Lauren were playing outside with Abby and the nannies. No one has been able to locate them for over an hour."

Fear grips my heart; I shouldn't have left them. This is my fault. My breathing is shallow and fast, and Evan gets in front of me, forcing me to look at him as he says, "Claudia, it's okay. It's all going to be okay; I promise."

Tears go down my cheeks as I shake my head, "You can't promise me that! What if the rogues have them? What if they kill them?! We never should have left them there!"

He holds my face and takes deep breaths in and out until I follow his suit. He tells me, "Claudia, I promise, nothing will happen to our sons. They're with Abby and their nannies and Abby's a badass. And Ken will be able to replace her, I'm sure of it! And Ken, I mean he may look just like a pretty boy, but he's a good fighter. He can get them quickly if they were taken. But they might just be in hiding. We won't know till later."

I clench my teeth together as I try not to have any resentment towards Evan. He knew I didn't want to come to this pack without the boys, but he pushed me to leave them behind. If they were with us, then this wouldn't be happening. Please, moon goddess, please keep my babies safe.
