I lay awake as Chase has gone to do some Alpha stuff. It has been a couple of days and still no word if the connection can be severed. I keep praying to the Goddess that we replace a solution soon. The twins are taking a nap and bless her heart, Mandy has been a blessing in helping with them. The Doctor wants me to take it easy due to all the stress. So, while the twins are napping, I am resting. I hear a knock on the door, and I get up to answer. It is Mandy.

"I thought you could use some company." She said holding a bottle of wine and two glasses.

"Oh Goddess, yes," I said pulling her in and to the sitting area. "I know Steven is with Chase out in the field. I am glad they get along."

"Me too. Steven talks about the difference between the two alphas and is glad we made this choice to change packs."

"Well, I am glad too. Because that means I have my best friend here with me." I said hugging her and taking the bottle and glasses from her hands, popping the bottle open, and pouring some into the glasses. "You have no idea how much I have been needing this." I pause and hand a glass to Mandy, "Ever since I was told Jacob and I are bonded and that if he dies, I die too..." I take a gulp of the wine. "This is maddening."

"I can't say I understand how you feel but you know I am here for you, Ammie."

I sit next to Mandy and give her a side hug. "It is all I ask. I am so glad you are here." I say with tears brimming in my eyes.

I just don't understand the reasoning the Moon Goddess has for keeping Jacob and me bonded. I want to be free of him and live my life with my one true mate and my pups. I sigh and say, "How about we watch a movie while the twins are still sleeping?" Mandy takes my hand and squeezes it, "Sounds good. Wine and a sappy romantic."

We both laugh as I get up and replace a romantic comedy to watch.

Later that day the men came back, and Mandy left with Steven back to their home. The twins woke up earlier and I breastfed one while Mandy fed the other with the bottle filled with my breast milk. We got them back to sleep and finished our movie as the men walked in.

When it was just the two of us, I asked Chase, "How did things go today?"

"It went well. We worked on new moves in training that will be beneficial for the warriors."

"I am glad." I frowned as I asked the next question. "Has there been any news about why Jacob and I are still bonded?"

Chase sighed and took me in his arms, "No love. Nothing yet. They are still researching this. It is all new to all of us."

I nod, "Yeah, like how I had a second chance mate before the first one was out of the picture. I have never heard of that happening." I say as his arms tighten around me.

"I agree. I have never heard of it before." Then I smile, "But I am glad of it." I tighten my arms around his waist.

He leans down and kisses me. One thing led to another, and we ended up first in the shower and then on the bed in heated passion. I didn't care if it was causing Jacob pain. For what he had put me through he deserved it. Do you know what they say?! 'Payback's a bitch.'

I lay in the arms of my mate and sighed. "I plan to love you forever."

"Is that a promise?" He asks me.

"You bet it is."

"Good because I plan to love you forever too." He kisses the top of my head.

I must have fallen asleep because I woke to hearing Chase in the sitting area talking to someone on his phone.

"Are you sure?" He was speaking quietly to not wake me. "Yeah, I get it. Nothing in the archives about such things." He sighed, "Please don't give up. We need to free our Luna of this lunatic. Yeah, just keep searching."

I hear him click off and I feel my heart fall to my feet. I can tell no one has any good news as to why this is happening. 'Goddess please set me free from Jacob.' I say in prayer to myself.

I feel the bed dip beside me and knew Chase was climbing back in.

My eyes were closed, and I feel his thumb brushing away the tears I didn't know were falling. "I heard," I whispered and slowly opened my eyes. "They can't replace anything."

"I am not giving up Ammie. I promise we will replace a way to free you."

"I pray you are right," I say feeling choked up with emotion.

He wraps his arms around me and pulls me close as my tears fell onto his bare chest. "We will replace a way." He whispers kissing the top of my head.
