An Alpha's Charge -
Chapter 22
Trials
“Hello, Ramiel, this is Axel. The trials have begun, and we will need Lane to come and testify what she saw happening with everyone in the room.”
“That will be hard to do; we expect cubs in a few weeks, and the doctor does not want her to travel. What about doing a Zoom meeting?”
“I will see if that works; we are not ready for her yet; I just wanted to give you a heads up on what is happening.”
“Please keep us posted, Alex, and thanks for the update.”
He walks to Lane’s office and tells her she must go to the council for the trials and testify against Wade, Vye, and the others. She was unhappy but put her hands on her belly and started laughing.
“What is so funny, love?”
“I get out of the trial card since I have a baby.”
“Babies, babies, plural, more than one. Isn’t your doctor’s appointment today?”
“Yes, I am leaving now; come with me.”
“I would not miss it for the world, darling.”
“Good, you’re driving,” Lane said while laughing.
They got to the doctor’s office; she signed in when they walked in. The nurse took her right back, with Ramiel following behind, getting her weight and vitals before entering the room.
“Okay, today we are doing an ultrasound to see how far along you are and tell the gender of the babies.” the nurse said.
She set up the machine when the doctor came in and took his seat. He asked a few questions and took measurements of her belly. He pulled up her shirt and squeezed some freezing gel on it. It took everything for Ramiel not to growl at the doctor for touching his mate.
“I know this is cold, but we are going to have a look at these beautiful bundles of joy.”
“Only one, not two or more, just one.”
“Nope, here is baby one, and it is a girl, baby two and a girl, oh look, there is a third, a boy. And I will tell you that there will be no traveling. And you will need to cut back on your work. The babies are growing nicely; you have about six more weeks.”
“Crap, I cannot believe it. Rami, how did you know there were three?”
“I can hear their heartbeats, and they are powerful. Curious what they will look like since I am a grizzly, and you are a polar bear.”
“Don’t care as long as they are healthy, which appears to be very healthy.”
They left the doctor’s office; no wonder she was getting more exhausted because she was pregnant with three babies, which is rare for werebears, but that does not mean anything. It is rarer that they give birth to a single baby, usually twins, but she did hope for one.
“Yay, I really cannot travel anymore. I cannot wait to tell everyone. Steven will be so excited he is going to be an uncle.”
“Yes, baby, he will be excited, but he has news for you too. We are meeting them for lunch.”
They entered the restaurant and sat down with her brother and his mate. Steven’s eyes popped open wide when he looked at her.
“Sis, you are big.” Steven laughed as Gabriel hit his arm.
“Well, we have triplets, two girls and one boy.”
“We have twin boys.”
“When are you guys due?”
“Four months and you?”
“Not soon enough, on rest till they get here. We have six weeks to go.”
“When do the trials start?”
“They are starting them but still determining how long they will last. We are discussing having a conference call or video for Lane to testify.”
“This is mind-blowing at its best. I hope they get what they all deserve for all the killings they did, drugs, you name it.” Steven stated.
“I know you include my sister in that plan too, but I hope she dies a painful death. She was your charge, Lane, yet she did just the opposite of what was supposed to happen. She got you raped, hooked on dangerous drugs, and stayed with that person who kept you at arm’s length and continued to rape you through drugs and alcohol. Whatever happened to him?”
“Not sure, but I will investigate it. I know he was imprisoned, and his wife divorced him, but trials continue. Still trying to figure that out. Lane will have to be involved in that one too.”
Lane oversaw the nursery being renovated once it was built onto the house. She had two of them made, one for the girls and the other for her son, as she would separate them when they got to be a year old and into toddler beds and not sleeping in cribs any longer.
A few days later, they received a call informing them that the trials were over, and everyone was put to death immediately. Lane was glad that she did not have to go through with that. But Ramiel received another phone call from an attorney in New York where Colin was being held.
“Ramiel speaking, how can I help you?”
“This is Attorney Greyson. I represent Colin...”
“Before you go any further, never call this number again. I do not care what the fucking hell you all do to that bastard for his drug use, rape, and whatever else he had done.”
“I am sorry, sir, but we must talk to Ms. Alexander.”
“No, you do not need to talk to my WIFE! She is on bed rest and unable to help you with your crap.”
“Please, sir, let me finish. Colin pleaded guilty and was sentenced to death. It has happened, but he had a will drawn up before he married, and she is listed as his benefactor to all his money and assets.”
“He was married. That shit should have gone to his ex-wife and kids.”
“That is just it, those kids were not his, and he knew it and kicked her out and filed for divorce. She is not in his Will and could care less about what he has or had.”
“Sell the home and his assets, send me the money personally, and I will handle it from there.”
“Do you even want to know what the Will states?”
“Not particularly, and nor does Lane expect it. Send me her inheritance, and I will deal with it later.”
“I will also include his Will and Testament in the package.”
“Thank you, you just do not understand the hell that she had gone through growing up, and now she has a very much normal life with people who adore and love her. They would also lay their lives down for her and our cubs.”
“I understand that completely; I will get everything overnighted.”
“Thank you for understanding.”
The call ended, and he had to tell Lane, but she was napping, so he would wait till later. He went to lay down by her side and snuggled up to her placing his arm protectively around her belly that was starting to protrude out. Ramiel could feel the babies kicking, so he put his face down her stomach and started talking to them.
The babies loved it when their father talked to them, and he could not wait to see them when they would arrive in a few short months. He finally fell asleep, and so did the cubs.
He woke up to hear the toilet flushing outcomes. Lane started to walk a little slower than her average pace. He loved everything about this woman; even though she had a tough life, it did not matter to him. He sat up in bed, leaning his back against the headboard.
“Come here, baby; I need to talk to you about something.”
“That is never a good sign when starting a sentence like that.” She is giggling and yawning at the same time.
“Right before I came here to nap with you, I received a call from an attorney named Greyson. He said that he worked with Colin?”
“Why in the hell would he be calling you, or even me for that matter? I do not want anything to do with that prick who kept rapping me by giving me drugs and alcohol all the time.”
“He wanted to talk to you about a Will and Testament the Colin left...
“A What? He was married. Everything should go to her and their kids.”
“Ha ha...that is a problem, you see he left everything to you and not her. Apparently, she cheated on him with another man and had them, or she had them before they married. That is something unclear to me. But he is overnighting it as we speak. Should be here in a day or two, depending on when he overnights everything.”
“Well, that is a little unsettling.
“Just curious as to what it is that he is sending, oh, and he is sending the Will and Testament so that we can read it ourselves.”
“Did he die or something?”
“Yes, he got the death penalty, which was done fairly quickly.”
“Good for him... If the penalty were done immediately, would that not make him supernatural? Humans do not get that kind of treatment that fast. They sit on death row for years and never be put to rest.”
“Huh, never thought about it like that. Does Gabriel or Garrett even know about that? I will have to ask them about it or have them investigate it further.”
“Good idea, but now it is almost dinner time; are we staying here or going to eat with the pack?”
“It is up to you, momma bear; do you feel like cooking or walking?”
“Neither! But I need to keep walking to help keep me in shape. I look like a beached whale.”
“Uh, no, you do not; maybe a polar bear, but not a whale. They do not like them as food.” Ramiel laughed as he ran out of the room and ran into Steven.
“Steven, we did not hear you come in; what’s up?”
“Sorry, Gabriel just got a horrible pain, and so did Garrett; they are at the house bawling their eyes out. I think Vye was killed.”
“I do not know anything about them as far as that is, but I would venture to guess that she died today or even a few weeks ago. But if it were a few weeks ago, they would have felt it. Sorry man, we will come over.”
They walked to their house to comfort their family members who had lost a sibling. Lane and Steven looked at each other and shook their heads to ensure they never died apart because they would know it.
Ramiel and Steven went to pick up food for all seven of them and brought it back to eat together. They were going to need support from family and talk it out so they could get an understanding of their bond.
They all ate and talked about how the angels have a special connection to each other as siblings, and it made a lot of sense that they would feel Vye’s bond snap when she died.
Ramiel received a phone call from Alex that all those on trial were dead. But there was more to it than they realized. Alex did not go into depth about it, nor did Ramiel care, as it was not his circus nor his monkeys.
