Arrogant Man VS Unyielding Woman -
Chapter 366 You Can't Frame Me Like This
This made her mind flash back to the time when both of them reacted with shock and anger as they saw her at the gate of the hospital. At that time, they were seeing two strange middle-aged men off. They must have been talking enthusiastically, a conversation that went on for a long time. Jean had a hunch that they were up to something from the look of the four huddled up together but she did not know what... "Why haven't you come back to the company yet?" asked Henry. He had obviously accepted that he could do nothing more about the dire straits the company was in. It was also clear that he wanted Jean back for help. He glared at her with indignation as he said, "Didn't you say that you would be back at the Wen Group? Then where were you all these days?"
Her father's agitation was a shock to her. She chewed on her lip as she tried to figure out what he meant by all of this. Taking two steps in his direction, she replied, "When I told you I wanted to come back, didn't you strongly disapprove of my decision? What is it? Why do you want me back now?"
"I..." He opened his mouth to explain but then shut it. For a second, Henry did not know how to answer her. And yet irritation came over him and he continued, "You are my daughter, after all. And the most conscientious of all, no matter your silly looks. Look at those two, cruel and base. I'd rather have you take over the company than have it fall into Joy and Shirley's hands. They are such heartless bitches..."
exclaimed Henry. A tremor ran through his aged, sick body as he spat out venom for his wife and daughter.
Jean's eyes widened as she heard this. Raising her eyebrows, half in astonishment and half in doubt, Jean thought about what Henry had just said. It never occurred to her that his feelings could do such a radical turnaround in just a few days. How badly had they angered him that Henry had arrived at this point?
'What did they do exactly?' wondered Jean in her mind.
Thinking of all the times they were all together, she recalled Henry always talking to Shirley in a soft, gentle tone and never being mad at Joy.
All of them made for a peaceful family together while Jean was treated like an outsider all the time she lived with them.
'What has happened in these couple of days that Henry will not admit they are family and refuse to let them run the company?
Before this, even if they had shown the desire to lead the Wen Group, Henry would have certainly said yes as long as they pleased him alright, ' thought Jean. She turned the situation in her head over and over again but grew more confused. "What has happened? Why are you so angry with them?" asked Jean finally.
"Huh..." Henry took a moment's pause to calm himself down and then said, "They want to make an alliance with outsiders and plot my ousting from the Wen Group! They think that I am useless for them now, since I will be lying in bed for the rest of my life. This has made them show their true colors. They don't bother to pay any attention to me, and in fact, want to take charge of the Wen Group...
I'm not going to let them do it, never. I've been cheated by them for more than twenty years. May be, it's true. I truly am a dotard for letting this happen to me. I can't believe that I divorced your mother for that bitch, Joy. Your mother was so virtuous. I can't help but miss her terribly..."
said Henry looking visibly upset. As he unraveled the truth layer by layer, he became sadder and sadder. By the time, he mentioned Jean's mother, his lips quivered and two fat tears streamed down his cheeks.
However, Jean remained impassive and expressionless at this moment. Despite Henry feeling guilty about his past deeds, his mea culpa had come too late for her.
It was no use crying after all the damage that had been done. Seeing her father cry sadly in front of her, she couldn't help frowning and said, "If you still want to take control of the Wen Group, tell me what happened. What have they done?"
Henry covered his face with both his hands to hide himself. On hearing Jean's concern, he slowly removed his fingers to reveal tear stains on his face. He sniffed and asked, "Are you sure you want to help me?" His shallow breaths were becoming normal though he was now gaping at Jean.
"I'm not doing this to help you." There was a blank look in Jean's eyes that Henry just couldn't fathom. "I am back at the Wen Group for my own personal matters. Didn't you say that you'd rather I take charge of the company than Joy and Shirley? Did you mean it?" asked Jean. Before she took any action, she wanted to make sure that Henry would not make any more trouble for her.
"No, of course not," pat came Henry's reply. He continued to say, "What is it that you want to do that has made you come back at the Wen Group?" A doubtful Henry asked perplexed.
A small company like the Wen Group was almost nothing for Zed.
Henry was specially curious about why Jean was doing this.
"What I'm going to do is none of your business. You just tell me how to stop them," replied Jean impatiently. She did not want to waste any more time on this question now.
"It can't be difficult," Henry filled her in as quickly as he could and said. "Although a lot of people on the board of directors are bribed by Joy, still, several big shareholders don't trust her very much. What I want you to do is this tell these big shareholders the situation I am in now and get my message across to them for me. I am sure they will stand on your side definitely. Once my share of stock gets added to the support you garner from the board, your taking over the Wen Group is a sure thing."
"I see," replied Jean. "Well, here's the plan," continued Henry as he went on with his scheme for almost an hour. All that time, as Jean listened to him, she nodded and looked him straight in the eye to get a read on what was going on.
After discussing all the possible countermeasures for a good 60 minutes, Jean stretched her neck muscles and let out a long sigh of relief.
"Alright. We are short on time. I'm going to the Wen Group right now," said Jean. With that, she gathered her stuff and walked towards the door.
With his eyes fixed on his daughter's back, Henry itched to ask her the question again. It was now or never. He plucked up the courage and said, "Jean, why can't you tell me the reason behind your return to the Wen Group?"
"Why do you keep asking me this? I'm coming back to stop Joy and Shirley, and take over the Wen Group for you!" Jean replied without looking at Henry.
"No, I don't think you are interested in the Wen Group." With clear-sightedness, Henry was sure of what he just said. He then continued, "I know you well, my daughter. You must be up to something else if you really want to return to the company," said Henry. "Whatever may the reason be, just mind your own business. Now, I have to go. You just wait for the good news," said Jean. After her words, she turned and exited without further ado.
Seeing her go, Henry's heart was wrenched with bittersweet feelings. He knew that there was something going on but he couldn't quite put a finger to what Jean was doing.
After a hasty commute, Jean now stood right in front of the Wen Group's building. The lofty building seemed unchanged, though nothing was the same as before. There were mixed feelings in her heart at this moment. She was sad but determined to announce herself through the door.
'Mom, I'm back here!
From today, I'll fight for your justice.
They have to pay back for what you suffered because of them, 'Jean was resolute as she promised her mother in her heart.
As she approached the meeting room, Jean confidently strode in regardless of the guards standing on both sides of the door. She stared haughtily at all the directors as she made eye contact with each of them one by one.
"What are you doing here?" Shirley asked loudly out of amazement. Her face had turned pale and she stood up from her chair in shock as soon as she saw Jean enter.
It was the most critical moment in the board meeting and Shirley didn't want to allow Jean to mess things up.
"Well, I come, of course, for the meeting," answered Jean. And then she picked a place and sat down.
"You're not welcome here. Just get out now," shouted an angry Shirley.
"We are both part of the Wen family, aren't we? Why can't I come if you can be here?" Jean replied with a sneer.
"Jean Wen, let me refresh your memory. You had public announced that you will be breaking away from the Wen family. Don't you remember?" Joy said sarcastically, sitting on the president's chair.
"All of that is nonsense! How can you believe a gossip like that? I keep my roots no matter where I go! I grew up as the Wen family until I got married to an exemplary person. I am so grateful to the Wen family. How could I ever break off my relationship with them? Joy, my stepmother, you cannot frame me like this..." said Jean.
As soon as the word "stepmother" came out of her mouth, everyone there began to whisper, looking curiously at Joy.
"Jean Wen, there is no way you can deny the announcement. Everyone knows it from the news!" Joy was shaking in anger as she said this to Jean.
"Joy, is that all you want to see? Me breaking off the Wen family? What is in it for you?" Jean blankly stared her. 0000000000000000
