Arrogant Man VS Unyielding Woman -
Chapter 394 Are You In Love With Someone
Moore was taken aback by what Jean said. Although he immediately gave her a strange glance, but he didn't say anything just then. However, Jean felt his gaze and asked," What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Nothing. I am just surprised by your abilities. You were dealing with such a large business and you were still so calm and decisive. You didn't even have to blink before you came to a decision and refused his offer directly," Moore explained with a big smile on his face. "Haha. But compared to you, I am still a layman." Jean shook her head and continued to say in her soft voice," It is you who think so lightly of money, not me..."
"Come on, that's not how I like to be described. But anyway, what are you going to do next?" asked Moore in concern. "There is something that I don't understand. Why did Henry propose and file for a divorce in such a situation? Although he is awake, he is still weak at the moment. If there is no one by his side to look after him, he is going to be in much trouble."
"Even if he didn't get a divorce, do you really think Joy was going to look after him?" Jean found the very notion and idea funny, but instead of laughing, she looked at him and tried to explain the whole thing clearly.
"Why won't she take care of him? After all they are a couple and have a son and daughter. Even though Winner is dead now, Shirley is still there, right?" Moore asked doubtfully.
"Moore..." Jean drew a long sigh and gave him an exasperated look before she continued," I don't know what people do under such a circumstance. I totally can't say without doubt if they dump their own family or take care of it. But I personally know Joy and Shirley, and know them well enough to say that they are the kind of people who will gladly share money and vanity but never take part in any hardship. With Henry in such a condition, they are sure to dump him. And Henry also knows them well. That's why he proposed and filed for divorce."
"But with a divorce, Joy is sure to ask for a lump sum of money! I can't believe Henry never thought about that. If they don't get a divorce, Joy won't be able to forcibly occupy some of Henry's properties..." Moore thought out loud absent mindedly.
"Maybe he was irritated by Winner's death. What's more, he seems a lot changed these days. You know, he doesn't treat Joy and Shirley as well as he used to before his accident. I think his accident made him think a lot and see a lot of things more clearly than ever before."
Jean sighed heavily.
"The reason that he wants to leave the Wen Group to you is because he wants to give you at least some consolation, right?" Moore asked as he stood by her side.
"I don't need his compensation!" Jean coldly replied on Moore's expression of his thought," I will never forgive him. If it wasn't for his cruelty and indifference, Mum would never have..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a lump appeared in her throat and her voice began to choke, as if she was about to cry.
"Don't bother yourself by thinking about that again and again." Seeing her fall into such sorrow, Moore hurriedly tried to comfort her," Your mom would get worried if she found out how anxious and worried you always are. Jean, you have to be happy. You know that, right?" "Yes, I know." Jean tried to resolve her emotions and nodded before she continued," You'd better go back to your ward. I have to go to the Wen Group now. And in the afternoon, I need to see off Zed's grandfather on his flight."
"Is he leaving so soon?" Moore was a little amazed to replace out.
"Yeah. He is getting old now. He prefers the company of his own town more than ever these days." Jean didn't want to talk about this anymore with him so she vaguely tried to shove off the discussion.
"Well, you take care then." Looking at Toby, who was standing respectfully a few steps back, Moore smiled slightly and said," Now that there is someone by your side protecting you, I can rest comfortably without having to worry about you."
"What would I be in danger of anyway? Stop worrying about me. Bye." Jean waved a goodbye to Moore and turned around.
Moore saw her leave and finally disappear from his sight. Then he sighed, gave one more glance to Henry's ward and went back to his own.
Reaching the Wen Group building, Jean called her secretary and got to know that Shirley hadn't come to work today. A cold smile immediately crept all over her face.
She had already expected this. With the divorce in mind, Shirley was sure to stay home and her absence didn't worry her at all.
It wasn't as if Jean was continuing to let her work here because she wanted her to do some contributions to the company.
After dealing with some documents which were rather urgent and needed to be reviewed and signed, Jean called a small meeting with a few managers to discuss some ideas, then she ate a simple meal to comfort her rumbling stomach and left the office. Sitting in the luxurious car that Toby was driving, Jean continued going through the documents in her hand while listening to the soft music that helped her focus her attention and energy on work.
She was not good at doing business. But luckily, Henry had left her several people who could do the heavy work, take care of the responsibilities and let her be at ease.
As far as she was concerned, she only needed to know a little about the matter they were handling and make a final decision. She didn't have to bother herself worrying about every single intricate detail.
Jean thought to herself, 'But now...'
The idea that she would have to meet Grandpa and every one else now seemed to worry her and she couldn't calm herself down even with the soft, ambient music playing in the background.
'Zed promised to give me three days so I could get to calm myself down and consider our relationship. But none of us expected that because of Grandpa we would have to meet twice within a single day. What's worse, I will have to meet the person I don't want to see ever again, Jesse!'
Even the name made her feel nauseated.
She also thought of the dubious relationship between Zed and Jesse. It was rather heartbreaking and she simply wanted to go away from all that right now.
She was deep in her thoughts again, 'If only I could file for divorce just like Henry and Joy, things would be so much better.
Although our marriage does give me a great deal of pleasure, it also causes quite a lot of pain.
I am sure that I love Zed immensely and awfully.
But the love is too heavy for me to bear. It is too painful.'
Just as she was trying to get rid of her anxious and messy thoughts, her phone rang.
She hurriedly opened her handbag and plucked out her phone. Seeing Maranda's name flashing on the screen, she immediately picked it up," Hello!" "Jean, where are you?" Maranda asked from the other side. There was an unconcealed joy and excitement in her voice.
"I am on the way to the airport. Grandpa will fly back to the Imperial Capital this afternoon and I am going to see him off," Jean honestly explained.
"Why is he leaving so soon? He's been here only for a few days?" Maranda asked. She was also surprised to know that Benjamin was leaving.
"I don't know. His way of thinking is different from ours. Maybe he feels that he likes it better at his own home." Jean was not good at making up stories, so she reluctantly said.
"You are right. If he interferes with the matters between Jesse, Zed, and you, then you'd be surrounded by the biggest third wheel possible!" Maranda replied with a laugh.
"What's up on your end?" Jean heard her laugh and smiled involuntarily. She changed the topic as she didn't want to mention Jesse.
"I heard that you went back to the Wen Group. And now the entire city is buzzing with the news. Good job girl! You should never let Shirley, the devil that she is, take over the things which originally belong to you."
Maranda complimented her with a tone that was again light and filled with pleasure.
"So you called me just to tell me this?" Jean asked with a smile. She felt relieved at once.
"First, I have to congratulate you that you finally made your way back to the Wen Group. Although Zed is wealthy enough to offer you a luxurious and enjoyable life, but seeing Shirley eat dirt really made me feel great as well as immensely happy for you." "First? Then what else is on your mind?" Jean immediately caught on to the key word in the entire sentence.
"And... And..." The sudden question flurried Maranda and she began to hem and haw, not being in a position to answer directly.
"And what?" Jean asked curiously on hearing her hesitate. Seconds later, something seemed to strike her and she said," Are you in love with someone?"
"Jean, you witch! How on earth did you know?" Maranda asked in surprise, and even Jean hadn't expected that her first guess would be so right!0000000
